What's your current wash process? All the links in the description box!
ONR with BRS or multiple towels. All depends on what is needed.
Throwing some water on it and calling it a day. Jk, just one bucket method and I haven’t gotten any swirls
I never use two bucket on the hand wash. I only use the two buckets when I wash wheels because there aren’t a bunch of wheel woolies and brushes.
Sometimes two bucket with two wash mitts or 1 bucket with many wash mitts where the dirty mitt doesn't get dunked again. It depends on the vehicle I'm cleaning.
I don't use any buckets. After pressure washing the car off I use a spray bottle with water and soap (10:1) and spray it onto the panel and mitt. Use less product and it's quicker. I then use a spray sealant on the car when it's wet (Sonax BSD) and dry off with a microfibre towel.
This is the method I’ve been advocating on my channel for years. Great to see you using it also. Great vid.
Hello from UK!
My new favourite “real working world” detailing channel
This makes a lot of sense, will give it a go...thx!
You are the most efficient and still quality and effective logical detailers on UA-cam. So many details give tips that recommend tools or products that are not necessary for most cars. Then you have the guys that give just bad advice period offering logic that goes against science or product purpose. Then you have the professional high end guys that only do rare exotic cars that are far from what the average detailers do. It’s good to see a normal guy doing realistic things.
Great video! I just started doing this before I saw this video. It is my favorite method by far! Like you I'd argue this method is safer for the paint as you're flipping to an entirely new side every panel or so! Saves so much time and hassle! I do one slight variation in that I soak my towels on the windshield after rinsing and before foaming and foam the towels as well and then wash I don't use any buckets.
Been doing the same method since I seen Larry at Ammo NYC show it and was like 🤯 this make so much since.
This method is the Gary Dean method which he got from another guy many years ago but this method is better than the useless scratch city 2 bucket method!
People have been using this method for years with rinseless washes ever since that Dean guy did it. Great system and probably the safest way to clean your vehicle. I use this system except I use several mitts instead of towels. The others added benefit is that you can save left over wash water for next time. Good job demonstrating this technique fellas.
Thanks man. I am gonna try this.
Hi Oscar, thanks for all the videos you made. I learned a lot from you especially on the business side of detailing.
Since you have Lex, can you make a video on hiring an assistant or a partner?
What do you look for when hiring an assistant, what are your process on training them, what are some red flags that a person is not suited for detailing job, how do you pay them properly, what are some ways to keep them long term?
Thank you!
May I make a suggestion. Always rinse off the snow foam before starting to wash. Let the snow foam dwell as it will lift and suspend a lot of dirt. If you start washing with that snow foam, you are rubbing in dirt. After you rinse off the snow foam, then you can choose to snow foam again and start washing or just start in with soapy water.
Also, I noticed that you wash the glass then immediately go down and wash the door panels. Why? You are taking dirt from the windows and transferring it to the doors. ALWAYS wash windows last. Windows don’t get swirl marks.
I use 5-6 wash mitts. One for hood/roof, one for each side, one for front and one for the back end of the vehicle.
I've tried a bunch of different methods, and have settled for the NO bucket wash method. LOL What makes the most sense to me is using a foam gun that attaches to a garden hose and just rinse the mitt or towel with clean water from the hose between panels. I couldn't imagine fumbling around with buckets any more. But, as you have mentioned in several of your videos, there's an evolution process. So, my methods may change sometime in the future.
You motivated me to get into detailing
Lesssgoooooo!
@detailgroove what’s up brotha, Sergio here from Albuquerque, NM. I really enjoy your videos. I’ve learned a lot! I saw a large canopy being used in this video. What kind is it and where can I buy it?
Keep up the good work. Thanks!
Seems like the Gary Dean method I used to use it with ONR. Either way it works for you so that’s awesome. I may start this up again with my routine washes. Do you just use any microfiber towel or do you use a certain type? Awesome videos as always!
Before starting, take off all jewelry (rings, bracelets and watches)
Im just a diyer, trying it keep our cars looking good.
I use a similar method. One bucket with 5 to 7 wash mitts. Start at the top, work my way down : end there. Never reuse that mitt during that wash. When finished, throw them in the washing mashine and dryer delicate mode.
Place in plastic bag, ready for next use...
You're a younger version of ammo man. Keep it up, you'll have your own supplies...
Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the episode.
I like this Towels method. As a weekend warrior, I will just put them back to washing machine and reuse it again for my car. I hope that’s ok. Gonna try it next time. Cheers
Been using the Gary Dean carwash method since I first saw it 8yrs ago or so.
When you do a basic wash and cleaning interior do you clear cup holders , center console etc, and or minor stains on leather or fabric or is that a up charge ?
Sounds fine but what about hard water and harsh sun climate like Texas leaving soap on streaks paint and glass. Suggestions.on this.
Great video and advice. Thank you. I have a synthetic chamois, "The Absorber" ... as long as my vehicle is properly cleaned and rinsed, is it "safe" to dry my car with that product? I currently have a garden hose foam gun, I thoroughly pre-rinse, then presoak my car, then rinse that off, then re-soap the vehicle with the foam gun one panel at a time, washing with a noodle type microfiber wash mitt, rinsing in a bucket that has a grit guard, then soaping the next panel and continue that process. It's a new 2024 Honda Civic Sport so I want to take care of the paint. Thanks again. Subscribed. Also if I'm in a pinch and need car soap is Meguiar's standard gold colored soap OK to use?
I used to do the two bucket method, then I realized how much water I wasted on just dunking a mitt to get a false sense of clean.
I switched over to the towel method, were you literally use less than 1 gallon of water and three microfiber towels. This method is much more efficient because one towel provides you eight sides of wiping. Less rinsing, less water, less product, and definitely less time consuming.
Garry Dean method is safe, efficient and reduces a detailer’s environmental footprint for sure.
Look into nano supercharger. The gallon can be diluted 100:1 but 20:1 works best to try it out at first as they sell a 50 gallon and up lol. Touchless spray sealant and lasts about a month and us super cheap. Wet application. Spray and rinse off. Perfect for maintenance washes
Lex need that hat! Man those are life saver
🙏🏼🙏🏼
Larry from ammo nyc is probably thinking to himself “it’s funny how you throw shade at me all the times but still decide to use my methods” lol jk bro
I know you're playing but people do say this. I don't care how anyone does anything to achieve whatever they're doing. As long as it works, that's all that matters
What towels do you recommend for this process.
I don’t particularly like mits.
Thanks Fred
Thanks Bro
Hello mate, would you like to review the new MJJC foam cannon pro?
I do the same but with multiple wash mitts just use both sides of the mitt then grab another one the chuck them all in the washing machine
Can you make a video of how you wash and maintain your dirty microfiber towels
Good job bro, I personally NEVER used that 2 bucket BULLSHIT method and so far I've gotten great results, How days ppl overthink things just to do a Damn car wash...
What’s a good micro towel to use for this method, brand and GSM?
Most over used “standard” by detailers is the 2 bucket method. Never should be used on any DAILY DRIVER CAR. Only high end or collection car and even then NEVER SHOULD BE USED when any paint correction is going to be happening after the wash. Many people watch videos and or read about the 2 bucket system but fail to use logic with that method. Thank you for reminding the slower minded detailer
How would I get my hands on some DI water in my city? I live in SoCal California any help please??
If you have foam cannon make sense having multiple towels. Use 1 bucket to discard the used towels, drying towels, foam pads, or everything need to be dumped to the machine wash after a job.
If you use one bucket and check your mitt when re dunking it you’ll see that it’s even better using 1 buckets because the soap drops the dirt to the bottom while water only not so much
Being in texas. You ever have semi trucks for customers service?
What do you use for spray wax?
I don't know if this will be relevant to anyone. I bought a foam cannon that has a smaller mouth for the bottle. Then, I discovered that a regular soda bottle will fit. So now, I use the no bucket method. I do a pre wash foam with a mix of snow foam and car shampoo. It seems to better cut and encapsulate the dirt. After a rinse, I switch bottles to straight car shampoo. Then contact wash. I use several microfiber towels. Then when I'm done with a wash towel, I throw them in a bucket. That's the only time I go to a bucket is to hold used towels. Rinse, and done.
Can you explain the logic of the pre-spray and rinse followed by a wash and rinse? Is there something that would indicate to you that it would need an APC rinse first? I had a black vehicle yesterday that had a weird greasy film on it that didn't look good with a normal wash, so I had to redo it with APC to have it looking acceptable ( fuck black paint ).
I use multiple soft MF towels soaked in diluted ONR solution to wash my car.
It's a daily driver already covered in swirls, so this method works great for me.
Surely only a show car or pristine paintwork requires zero swirl method...
I don't detail as a job, but I'm thinking of buying a DA polisher just to see if the swirls will come out LOL
Where did u get that tent help please lol
what spray wax do you use?
I stopped doing the two-bucket wash when I realized there’s no dirt on my wash mitts or buckets. After pressure rinse, stripping foam bath and another rinse, there’s nothing for the mitt to remove. Less product same result less time.
When you pre-spray with APC what dilution is safe for paint and chrome trim and how often do you suggest doing this? I'm just a weekend washer.
Thanks
Yes, just don’t let it dry on the surface. We don’t do this very often as it’s only needed on dirtier vehicles
My process of washing a car is
Rinse Car
Foam it
Wipe down with Microfiber Wash mit
Rinse it
Is that any good? Am I doing anything wrong ?
wash mitt vs microfiber towel for hand wash?
What part of Texas dallas??
How do I change my blinker fluids? My friend told me I need to change my blinker fluids.
Eh, that's a tough one. Go to Auto Zone and see if they can help with that
Does this work for dirtier exteriors too?
Well I think if it’s really bad maybe just foam it and rinse and foam it again and then do what he did as the foam could help to breakdown some of the heavier dirt
What spray wax and soap do you use ?
interested in this answer too
how to avoid the browning or rusting of rotors after washing the wheels & tires?
That’s brake dust. Tap the brakes and you’re good
Nice video
Two bucket system takes more time..
I like towel system much faster..👌🏽
Gonna give this a go. Question, do you use “quality” MF towels for this?
We use brand new towels from Costco. They're great for washes
Dude!!! Just bought a stack of those! Thanks!
Can you reuse the towels if you wash them with “like” towels
@@Vrtroopers I don’t see why not. I’m sure you’ll have to replace after a few washed though. Luckily, Kirkland MF towels are inexpensive.
@@McMuffinat0r I wouldn't use those towels to wash a car. Simply because they have a very short pile and aren't very absorbant. A deeper pile similar to that of a mitt means there's somewhere for the dirt to go rather then being rubbed into the paint. I'd argu using a 2 bucket wash is safer then low pile cheap towels. Use deep pile towels and your safe
What kind of spray wax do you use
Looks like p&s beadmaker
I use it all the time for washes, real nice gloss and slickness. I had it on multiple clients cars and they love it. Beads great and even withstood heavy snow salt
@@Droppedtaco do you spray it on while the vehicle is still wet?
Chemical guys said to do the 2 bucket
Tbh I'll only do this if the paint was correct and protected other then that wasting time because if the car has light/ heavy Swirls and scratches already your not going make it any worst as it is. Just my opinion.
Do towels not get pricey when you use brand new towels every single wash.
Honestly this method seems really great if you just wash your towels. I have like 30 towels and just wash them with microfiber specific detergent every time I run out of clean ones
How much do you pay yourself and how much do you pay your employees? I'm now in the position to hire help and would like to know
Best advice is talk to your accountant
1 bucket for me...I been doing it wrong for over 40 years...
Wasting your hard earned money on equipment you honestly don't need! Rinse less washing for the win and it's super cost effective!
Here is my process:
1. Pressure wash rinse.
2. Form vehicle.
3. Rinse vehicle.
4. 2 buck wash with MF wash mitt.
5. Rinse.
6. Dry with MF towel.
For me it’s foam on dry paint, let it dwell, rinse, foam again, mf towel wash, rinse👌🏻
Hmmm So Gary Dean Wash method for 2021....
What do you mean
I mean this method ua-cam.com/video/JFAD1Gm19ks/v-deo.html&ab_channel=GarryDean
@@DetailGroove An update to the Garry Dean method using foam instead of rinseless wash..
I first saw the towel was method iteration back in 2012 on an AutoGeek forum thread. The guy in the thread had linked to another wash method he was tweaking. What do you want me to do?
im guessing these are monitored comments because i havent found 1 person that knows what tf they are talking about. i clean cars for a living and i dont know why you would bother calling yourself a detailer when all you realistically do is a valet its a joke tbh
A snowflake has entered the chat🙇🏽♂️
New wash mit every panel
Where was your step ladder on that big truck 🤷🏽♂️ can’t stand that shit
So you stole Larry’s idea basically
🧢
So I guess Larry stole it from Garry Dean...
@@Bullitt3309 probably now I wonder who Gary Dean stole it from
