    I’m 13 and I really want to be one. Every time I go to my appointment for my braces I just love talking to the workers and orthodontist on what they do and it makes me so excited. I do know it’s a lot of work but it’s a pretty cool job to me

    I'd never go to an online provider where you don't get IPR and you don't even see your dentist. I'm going to see the best orthodontist I can find in my city. Totally worth it for a high quality experience and a skilled professional. I'd never take risks with my teeth. I live in UK.

    Dr. Coughlin, Thank you so much for this refreshingly optimistic and honest video on the future of orthodontics. This question has certainly been on my mind as a discerning new dental school grad. Thank you for this perspective!

    Although some people say ortho is dying due to emerging aligner market, another side argues that ortho now only brought down on par with other specialties, because ortho used to do "all" cases (including easy ones), but now GP's do the easy ones and refer complex cases just like all other specialties have been doing. Do you agree with this?

    I had crowded bottom teeth. So did my friend “Kate”. I went to orthodontist, she did a direct to consumer aligners. I paid 2k more, but two years later I love my smile. I can floss and just sleep in retainers. Kate is happier with her teeth but she is thinking about going to see an orthodontist.

    Hi Dr. Nate, could you make a video on opening a practice? I know that it's a vast topic but I (and others perhaps) would greatly appreciate an introductory-style video. Thanks again for all you do, take care!

      Hey Angela. Love that idea and I've got that question asked a lot. Actually in the midst of opening 2 at the moment so would be a good refresher for me too!

    definitely not. in Lithuania it's like tons of people coming to ortho offices. but you need to have a lot of money for the treatment too. it's private business.

    Thank you so much for your perspective. I’ve been interested in ortho for as long as I can remember. But the implications of Invisalign and other aligner companies concerned me into reconsidering specializing in ortho. I would love to hear your perspective in how competition of general dentists providing Invisalign affects an orthodontic office. An orthodontist I work with warned me that the field is difficult to find full time jobs out of residency, so I would love to know how the competition with general dentists adds to this

      Hey MyKenzie. I think having Invisalign and more people doing it/interested in it is great even if DDS are doing it. The more people have access to ortho the better I believe. I'm not sure as far as job opportunities straight out of school but the transition from school to work is tough no matter what direction you choose.

    I'm a senior in highschool interested in becoming an orthodontist but after research I've realized that dental school alone can cost over 90,000 alone not including cost of residency to specialize. Could u please give information about how you made a plan to pay off your loans while also saving money

    Is this a lucrative field? How much can you expect to make starting out? 200-300k? Thanks

    Is it difficult to open your own practice? How difficult and how did you over come it? What kind of situation were you “stuck” on?

    • @ThriveDentist
      @ThriveDentist  4 роки тому +1

      Yes not gonna lie it's tough. You have to change your psychology from being an operator to a business owner. Takes a lot of practice and time.

    During dental school is there separate classes for people who want to become oral surgeons vs orthodontics, etc.? Or does everyone learn the same thing then learn different post-dental school?

    • @ThriveDentist
      @ThriveDentist  3 роки тому +1

      All the same schooling in dental school.

    Hi Dr. Nate! Do you think there is an age limit to becoming an orthodontist? I recently became interested in the field and am planning on applying to dental schools next year. However, I am 25. This would mean I would not begin practicing until age 35. As an orthodontist, do you think this would be too old?

    • @ThriveDentist
      @ThriveDentist  4 роки тому +3

      Hey Erin is 35 is too old I guess I'm over the hill! Definitely go for it and I know people who started their undergrad in their 40s so you are never too old!

    Hello, if I have back and neck tightness could I still be a dentist or orthodontist? Or is it a bad idea to go into this field?

      Ooh hard to fully remember but I believe the math portion was not that difficult but reading comprehensive and carving (yes in Canada we had a carving portion) was the most difficult. I just basically carved all day and took a ton of reading comprehension tests.

    • @ThriveDentist

      Lol. Yes they do. You can work as much or little as you want. You can still have a great lifestyle and only work 2-3 days a week.
