  • Hey UA-cam Family,
Download my personal ORTHODONTIC BOOKLET for you here: qrco.de/orthob...
I wanted to create a Dental Orthodontic Assisting 101 video for all of my assistants and future assistants. So yes, this is a selfish video because it's mainly made for all of my team, but I thought others could benefit from this as well.
I go over a ton of information in this video, and you may have to slow it down, rewind, check again and use all of your brainpower if you are not familiar with orthodontics.
If you are interested in working for our office, click the link below:
    thrivedentist....
In this video, I will help you understand the following information:
    1. What is an Orthodontist
    2. What is a Board Certified Orthodontist
    3. What are all the tools we use when treating patients
    4. What are the different types of braces
    5. What are the different types of wires
    6. The vocabulary of Orthodontics includes overbite, overjet, underbite, open bite, crossbites, spacing, crowding, TMJ, frenum, bonding, banding, etc.
    7. How we do consults in our office and the terminology I use during consults
    8. Difference between Cl I, Cl II, and Cl III occlusion
The previous list is just a brief summary of the topics we will cover. This is the first video in the series. For our staff, we expect you to know and understand these concepts, and we will quiz you periodically
Thank you for watching, and happy orthodontic assisting!

How did you get selected for ortho I’ve been a RDA for 2 1/2 years and I wanna transition into ortho. @@ThriveDentist , how much does the Orthodontic therapists earn in the USA ? ty Here in the UK Dental Nurses / BADN have to go a extra year to become a Orthodontic therapist . And the wage is£22 - £35 a hour is USD $ 29.42 - $ 46.81 a hour . Orthodontic therapists are a relatively new addition to the orthodontic team. Their role is to work alongside a specialist orthodontist or dentist to perform routine orthodontic treatments. It’s now fairly common for NHS orthodontic treatment in particular to be carried out by orthodontic therapists under the supervision of a dentist or specialist. Orthodontic therapists must work to the prescription of an orthodontist or dentist, and they can only carry out treatments that are reversible and non-invasive, for example:
      Taking impressions
      Fitting braces
      Adjusting brackets
      Changing archwires

Great video! Definitely sums up the basics for beginners.
In South Africa you have to become a dental hygienist first before you can work in Orthodontics, assistants are not allowed to work on patients.
As an orthodintist, would you ever consider employing a South African? I've been working in Ortho for 9 years and I'm just looking to see if this would possibly be something I can do if we ever move to the States.
I'm married to an American and we would possibly move to the States in the next few years.

@@jeffmeisner8976 This is a late response, but I’m a dental assistant. Starting out pay depending on where you live usually isn’t worth it. I am pursuing orthodontic assisting and I heard that they are paid better - I have an interview tomorrow. DA’s, in my experience, are also treated poorly. Of course you have negative experiences at work sometimes but from what I have worked, it’s not been truly worth it. I hope you find what you’re looking for! (P.S. Starting pay for assistants usually start at 11-15$ an hour where I live. I live in a smaller area so that could change if you live in a bigger city.)

@@lostinsauces Thanks for responding....Yea so Im looking at doing most likely DH because I work at Trader Joes and already make 18.85 hr and get 1.50 hr raise a year So it would be financially silly to do DA or Orthrodotics assistant- there both good but I wouldnt make much more money plus would have to pay for baby sitting of 3 kids - so I would loose alot of money from that....Hopefully your job interview went well....Check out udemy online and take classes for Orthrodotics there are so many ....Most are 199.00 some are cheaper But Im sure you will learn alot and look good on your resume....I purchased oral biology and dentin course and oral pathology and more... Also colgate has professional courses online for free.
