Allison, I love that you made your subject matter expertise available at affordable price points: free (social) and ~$25 (book). This kind of socioeconomic inclusivity is refreshing and appreciated.
Thank you! That was so helpful. 🙂 I surprised myself! 1. Reserved. 2. Boho 3. Free/Confident. That third one was a big surprise - I want to escape from my current style, I think it's a by product of childhood trauma where I just wanted to disappear or blend in. Now, at 60, I want to escape and be me! I'm creative and I want to walk that walk. I just need to figure out how to do that. So I just ordered your book and will re-visit my three words after doing some reading. ☺
I just got this in my recommendations and have already seen several other people talk about your three word method. I could never really wrap my head around it, though. It always felt like "How am I supposed to put my style into THREE words only?", especially because I wanted my personality to be reflected within it. It just didn't wanna click or work for me. But I did you very wrong, because now that I saw this video, even when I was just half way through, it clicked and I was able to find my three style words (versatile, bold, dynamic) and actually describe and write down what they mean to me personally and also how they can look like and be achieved. This was a breeze to watch and also incredibly helpful. And I have to admit, to find the second word, I had to write down many words that would describe the visuals of what I usually put on mood boards, to then find the matching word that actually describes the vibe that makes me like this specific aesthetic. But that wasn't even taking long and was a very fun exercise as well. So thank you very much for this video, even though I'm quite late to watching it.
(warning: long message) I can't thank you enough! You saved me! I'm a man just turned 50 and I was lost as to where I wanted my style to go. This is the first method that really helped and now that I come to think of it it's very empowering: you're not slave to rules but act on your own agency! Genious! /// My 3 words: "comfortable, mature, happy". /// Now your method reminded me of the practice of "Big Ideas" ("Understanding by Design" educational framework): you start with a high level concept (the highest the better up to the spiritual, social etc) and work backwards down to the particular and concrete /// So, I use each word as an umbrella to organise my thoughts about style. For example under "comfortable" I placed: "functional, elastic, soft, minimal, relaxed, unlayered, flowy, knit, effortless, undone, versatile etc". Under "mature": "refined, well made, luxurious, bespoke, flawless, expensive, quality, select pieces, timeless, sleek etc" and finally, "happy": "not serious, not one-dimensional, playful elements, a bit sexy, unexpected combinations, round not angular, lively, not monochromatic, not formal, mix and match, textured etc". /// I think the "emotional" word acts as a bridge between the first two. /// I wanted to bring my style into maturity, but had fallen into the trap of thinking of "mature" as a rule by which you have to dress under a certain code: blazers, tailored trousers, coats, turtlenecks, shirts, etc. The web is full of "style experts" actually *demanding* exactly that. Well, could be for someone else but not for me! I really hate them! They don't feel like me! Plus my lifestyle doesn't require them. So "mature" means smth quite different to me and Allison thank you for helping lift the burden! /// I feel that stylistically, I've suddenly grown a thousand years in one morning!!!
I thank God for sending this video to me. My third emotional word made me cry. This method also helped me discover something important. May God bless you 🙏
I love this method because it feels like it can work for anyone, regardless of their gender identity! My husband has watched some style advice videos with me, and he gets frustrated that the language feels exclusively feminine. I'm literally ordering your book now!!
I’ve watched several videos for the purpose of identifying my 3 words. And I kept playing with the same 3 words (basic, romantic, polished) just didn’t know in what order to put them. However today I was finally able to realize that romantic or even funky was not my aspirational, but rather emotional word. So: “basic, polished, romantic” is my final result! 💐💐💐
Could not agree more about how great that strapless top outfit looked on her! And that would not be an obvious pairing at all but fits the 3 words perfectly. Impressed!!!
I loved this format and hope to see it again. It was really helpful seeing your strategies in real time with a 'regular' person (though maybe not that regular....Grace has some amazing pieces!).
I already use a similar process that I got from another fab book, Style Statement - Live by your own design, Carrie McCarthy. They base your style on 2 words though. I found it really helpful. Great video, I agree would be good to see more like this.
This is so inspirational ❤ I even tweaked a bit my three words to make them feel more personal, I went from “casual, classic and bohemian” to “casual, elegant and soft”. Thank you very much now I feel like my 3 words will help me to shop better 🤗
I am extremely late to the party because I only found out about you in the last few months, but I've binged all your content! I recently redid my closet using your method and it was brilliant!! I will definitely buy the book!
I clicked becuse Grace was casually dressed, printed t-shirt and more shapeless clothing. I enjoyed this! I do find that l got into a rut of my 'wear every day' plain coloured basics and that l have recently started to reach for more jewellery to get the life into my outfits, the personal aspects, the quirkiness.
I discovered you recently via Alyssa Beltempo. Although I am old enough to be your mother I still enjoy your styling concepts and just tweak for my age. Especially liked your Closet Edit and I pre-ordered your book so I can learn more from you.
Loved this video so much! It is definitely super inspiring to watch the whole process. Thank you for sharing and I hope to see more videos like this. Can‘t wait for your book!!
I found myself smiling when she had her outfit on! I love this so much. I did it myself for the first time this morning, and I feel like I unlocked the secret of my wardrobe!
Nice video idea ! The 3 word method is super interesting, I loved how you show the process of "researching" these words with Grace, it is really helpful how you proceed. the only thing I personally am less fan of are the outfits, they look great (the appearance isn't the "issue" at all and besides what is pretty to someone is subjective), but I find that these outfits are something we see everywhere, it is very cliché if I may say so, like a "cute" dress with a leather oversized blazer and chunky shoe...or a fitted top and oversized pants... I mean you see it everywhere, it would be nice to see eg a 3rd more original proposition.
Hi Girl! I am just loving you work, that fresh approach. It is a pity you didn't put out any new video for quite some time. I am glad for you to be busy a lot with your job. I was wondering if you would consider to film a video about fixes of outfit. You know... To put on a "regular" look you see women around to wear. And after do a fix so we can see what we are doing wrong.
Fantastic video - so fun, and practical, and helpful to those of us struggling to find our personal style and build a cohesive wardrobe. Absolutely loved it!
I love these videos I always learn something new from Alison I’m going to start thinking about my 3 words and I’m preordering the book so looking forward to receiving it 😊👏
Loved this video. You are so talented Allison! I also love how friendly, approachable, fun, and kind you are with clients. Doing what you do means you get to meet all kinds of personalities and help clients shine as they are and feel accepted. The way you ended the video was so cute!haha I think you are far from sounding like a news anchor. Muah, much love!
I think I have my 3 words down and since I started narrowing that down, I feel like my summer style is coming into its own more now than it has ever done. It´s still not my favorite season to dress for, but I feel less distracted
loved watching this. it's so fun. like Grace was really discovering herself even though all the clothes were her, she just needed help to make what she had bring her personality out. It's genius
Mine would be Comfortable, Feminine, and Respectable or Stylish. I feel like you can have some flexibility with the emotional word depending on your mood or where you're going.
Could this method still apply if you have a very limited closet? Weight loss, plus a new baby, plus decluttering has reduced what I have to a very small amount and it’s all basically boring. I feel boring when I wear it. Definitely going to preorder your book!
I could watch you go through this process with 100 people... it's so good!
Yes, please make more videos like this! So so fun.
For real!! Should absolutely be a show.
Allison, I love that you made your subject matter expertise available at affordable price points: free (social) and ~$25 (book). This kind of socioeconomic inclusivity is refreshing and appreciated.
Please make these a series!! This was so helpful and fun to watch!
Yes! 😊❤
1.what you normally wear/ wear a lot of
2.what you put on mood boards/ pinterest
3.how you want to feel
Please make many of these! Helping people find their 3 words and dressing them up in outfits that fit them.
Layered/Timeless/Authentic ❤
The 3 word method is an absolute GAME CHANGER. The things I have purchased since exploring my 3 words have been amazing additions to my wardrobe!
Thank you! That was so helpful. 🙂 I surprised myself! 1. Reserved. 2. Boho 3. Free/Confident. That third one was a big surprise - I want to escape from my current style, I think it's a by product of childhood trauma where I just wanted to disappear or blend in. So I just ordered your book and will re-visit my three words after doing some reading. ☺
I love this video so much! It’s so refreshing to not hear the same capsule wardrobe talk and see people express themselves in their unique way ❤

Practical. Aspirational. Emotional. Love this.

I thank God for sending this video to me. My third emotional word made me cry. This method also helped me discover something important. May God bless you 🙏
This method changed the game for me. I apply it not just for my fashion but also for my interior design style as well!
I love that!! I do too!!! It really helps
The first thing I thought when I saw her living space was “warm and inviting”
I love this method because it feels like it can work for anyone, regardless of their gender identity! My husband has watched some style advice videos with me, and he gets frustrated that the language feels exclusively feminine. I'm literally ordering your book now!!

These are my favorite kind of videos I watch on repeat!!
Same. Moooore please lol
Me too! Also book is preordered. 🎉
Could not agree more about how great that strapless top outfit looked on her! And that would not be an obvious pairing at all but fits the 3 words perfectly. Impressed!!!
I appreciate the communication and how expressive this process was. This was SO helpful.
Love this kind of video 😍 Please make it into a series 🙏🏻 And I'm really looking forward to reading your book, I already preordered it!!
The book is amazing. An incredible resource.
This kinda made me cry… so moving to see someone embrace their unique style.
I loved this format and hope to see it again. It was really helpful seeing your strategies in real time with a 'regular' person (though maybe not that regular....Grace has some amazing pieces!).
I had previously come up my 3 words over the last year of pondering and I am pleased to see that they fit with your method! Bold, narrative, absurd.
This was SO fabulous!!! 😍😍😍 More videos like this, please!! Can’t wait for the book as well! ❤️❤️❤️
I already use a similar process that I got from another fab book, Style Statement - Live by your own design, Carrie McCarthy. They base your style on 2 words though. I found it really helpful. Great video, I agree would be good to see more like this.

Love these videos - you need your own show! And I've pre-ordered the book. Can't wait!
So enjoyed this! And i love the way you engage with your clients- so open-minded/ encouraging whilst still helping to guide/ inspire!
This is amazing ! I love to watch these as I organize my cothes and closet. Please make more, a series is definitely called for !
I am extremely late to the party because I only found out about you in the last few months, but I've binged all your content! I recently redid my closet using your method and it was brilliant!! I will definitely buy the book!
Yaaay! Welcome!!!!! I’m so happy to hear this!!!

I enjoyed this!

That corset with pants looks amazing! This is so helpful!! I struggle with exactly this … minimal AND fun 💞
These series are gold. You are really a genius at analyzing every bit of the process of helping people distille their style.
I just bought your book « wear it well » cannot wait to define my style and make my own stylish identity❤🇨🇦
I would LOVE it if you did some more of these🥰
✔️Book preordered! 😁 So happy to support your great work even in a small way. Thank you, Allison!
I discovered you recently via Alyssa Beltempo. Although I am old enough to be your mother I still enjoy your styling concepts and just tweak for my age. Especially liked your Closet Edit and I pre-ordered your book so I can learn more from you.

Nice video idea ! This seems derivative of "What Not to Wear."
Hi Girl!

I don't understand how many of the words are supposed to be about the fit of the clothes (oversized, fitted) vs the style (romantic, classic)
i think mine would be
1. casual/comfy
2. polished
3. eclectic !
Love this concept and loved seeing the process! Can’t wait to read the book!
Fantastic video - so fun, and practical, and helpful to those of us struggling to find our personal style and build a cohesive wardrobe. Absolutely loved it!
