The Ford Raptor R is an absolutely incredible machine. Taking a platform that already has been praised for a long period of time, Ford decided to turn it all the way up and give it the goods - the 700HP 2020+ Shelby GT500 predator engine! With all the power in the world and lighter weight, I never thought the Raptor R would feel THAT much different than its main rival - the RAM TRX. The truth is - it does. The Raptor is a blisteringly fast truck with no compromises.

This thing is one of the most impressive trucks I've ever driven. The TRX is amazing but this thing...geez.
Replacement for your S550 GT?
No tuning available, no trans access either. TRX'S have been unlocked for years now. TRX all day! Plus there at least $15k cheaper.
@@Moparmaniac-mr1tp The Raptor will be unlocked have some patience....
Now imagine if the raptor R was revved out higher & tunable lol. 10 speed with a gt500 motor needs more rpm
To be fair the trx is all steel and uses the hd2500 frame so you can do actual truck stuff with the TRX...
We've come full circle from truck engines in sports cars to sport cars engines going back into trucks. Gotta love it with that 0-60 time
At this point ford needs to release a factory trophy truck
Fr… I don’t remember what the mustang version of the copo Camaro is called but they should do something like that with the raptor
That would be sick! There is a company that transforms Raptors into trophy trucks for $15k-ish, I can’t recall exactly how much. But it’s a kit they send you to install all the parts yourself.
Ford literally debuted the GTD as the most hardcore Track-oriented Mustang, so a full-on trophy truck wouldn’t be out of place. A Mustang GTD and Ford’s own take on a trophy truck would make for a sweet, sweet duo.
Couldn’t agree more
That would be cool to see as a sibling line to rtr but for offroad applications.
I bought a 2013 for the v8 . The sound of a vehicle is part of the fun factor, and I can't afford the raptor r I'm happy with the lower power just to have the v8. I can always supercharge it later. Now you have to drive one of the 700 horsepower awd f 150 street trucks that people are getting through ford
Those 2013/14 models are also the best looking imo
@@RomeoKiloLimaWasTakenagreed
The super snake I believe it’s called 🤙
@@MysteriousToe I think hes talking about the FP700. Basically take any package of f-150 and it gets some goodies and a whipple 3.0 supercharger. 700 crank horsepower with a warranty 🤙🏻 I'm highly considering doing this to a regular cab short bed, if not a GR Corolla
I had a 2014 Raptor and now have a trx. The TRX is in a different universe as a daily.
Fun is no longer affordable for the common man.
You need to redefine fun. I can find fun on craigslist. Unsafe, unreliable, sketchy as fuck, absolute *bucket* fun? Yes, but still fun.
Name one affordable brand in this economy honestly
The middle class is all but f*cked.
And you can’t even say Honda or Toyota anymore either . Unless you got a 750 credit score and want to go into debt
Gotta build it yourself!!
The biggest problem with Ram is Stellantis.
Ford’s problem is their dealers. Lol
@@CR-xv8wm dodge and ram dealers are far worse then ford, let’s be honest here.
@@iiRUSSiiAiiNot the case based on my experience.
@@CR-xv8wm look at all of their inventory, and markups currently.
@@iiRUSSiiAii Same thing with both companies…around here anyway.
I actually like the Ecoboost in the Raptor because the energy transfer when it lands after a jump is nowhere near as bad as a V8 truck in stock form. The Raptor R sounds way better and is faster though so I’m torn
While the weight transfer is worse in a v8 because of it's obvious extra weight, when compared to other v8 trucks in this segment this actually tends to be the most agile and able to land relatively well for what it is without too much nosediving
@@leofhr2966 the handling is another reason why I’m considering one. Is the ride similar between the ExoBoost and the Raptor R?
I’m a poor so I’ll stick with my 2019 2.7 stx 4x4 😅
Buy both
@@Graves-81_69 From what I have seen and heard so far from those that had both experiences directly back to back it's different. The tires and suspension travel make it really obvious as they are the biggest influence on the changes in handling, the power delivery of the v8 is also of course a main reason why. The overall handling is very similar, but you will notice the changes and characteristics that made them so distinguishable.
Consider that Ford has no issues to stay the only one V8 American car company if GM want to drop as well this truck will be desirable ...
Does't matter if GM still made v8 trucks like this which they don't, but the point is they were never able to compete against Ford Raptors.
@@leofhr2966 ZR2 Bison ... it is better off roader ... please notice it is offroad vehicle not Baha car which is Ford raptor in first place
@@occasionalquest *Baja* no "H"
The Zr2 bison isn't the same thing and meant for a different type of offroad work then the raptor. Overland and trail work.
@@occasionalquest Like I said, nothing to compete against the Raptor, made that pretty clear as the Bison can't do any dessert running as good as the Raptor. Also it's "Baja", not "Baha". I can think of many other vehicles that can do Off-roading like the Bison.
I mean gm still makes that escalade V with the supercharged 6.2l but truck is priced crazy high.
Ford is doing great things for automotive enthusiasts! I mean look at the single cabs that ford released with a supercharger under factory warranty! No other company is doing that
now do a midnight performance f150 lol
Those things are 🚀s
Dodge pretty much ditching V8's is the least Dodge thing I've ever heard of. A lot of these companies have been taking crazy-pills these past 4 or so years.
🔥🔥🔥🔥great truck definitely one of my favorites i also hate how expensive it is which will drive a lot of people to get the Trx or a used one just off the price difference you can get them used for. Great content ‼️
Review the Ranger Raptor next!!! It looks like an awesome mini version of this.
My wife just picked up her RR 3 days ago. It’s fast and extremely tight! Great truck.
10:49 I was on the fast lane traveling at around 80mph on long stretch of Texas highway. It was a divided highway with trees and grass in the center. I was behind a row of 4 cars attempting to pass some semi trucks when A Raptor R came up behind was literally inches behind my rear bumper. I heard him down-shift a couple gears and with full acceleration, passed all 5 of us by jumping onto the grass and cutting off the first person in the line. I was amazed by how quickly it accelerated and by how motionless the body was while the suspension moving at an incredible rate of speed and distance of travel. It took him less than a few seconds to pass all 5 of us who were doing 80mph and jump back on the highway. It was the first time I was genuinely impressed by any vehicle on the street (including supercars and superbikes).
Ford needs to make a short bed 2 door version imo
I'm not sure it would look that great, but in terms of performance I think that would be insane
they might not for a similar reason to why bronco raptors and jeep 392s are only sold in 4 door. 4 doors just sell way better. there might also be a high speed stability element in off-road scenarios which you could argue for. in not an engineer so maybe that second point is total bogus but it works in my head.
The predator engine in a 2019 - 2023 Ranger would be fucking sick.
That thing would be a monster
you are a legend! i remember going through the Focus ST track day out in Utah back in 2016. I just picked up my Ranger Raptor two weeks ago and am already hoping they come up with a ranger raptor R version... maybe the GT350 motor or the 3.5L twin turbo in a ranger?!?!?!
Wish Ford would put the Godzilla in a single cab shorty and call it the Thunder. I don’t off-road unless I’m on a dirt bike but I miss muscle trucks
seeing the coasters in the background was a really cool shot
Taking that thing to the mall is the most realistic testing ground for that guy.
Can't wait for you to be in the crew motorfest
We're you doing this review in San Diego? That picture of the truck looked like SeaWorld was behind you. I live in SD and have season tickets to SeaWorld. My kids love that place. But not as much as I would love having a Raptor R. I have a 2018 F-150 with the 3.5 EB and the 10 speed trans. I also have a 5 star tune on it and my truck absolutely rips! It does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds all day everyday. The funny thing is I was always a chevy guy. Then I drove a new F-150 and it changed me forever 😂 GM really needs to get their s**t together.
yep that was seaworld in the BG soo he was in San Diego!
Driving around Oceanside and San Diego! In such a badass truck, no less! I haven't driven it and it's already my favorite truck.
That is absolutely my favorite new truck!
That’s a bad ass truck! Great video
While I get to work in an area where I see these daily. I love the concept of the RAPTOR R achieving the hp and torque numbers on a smaller displacement than the TRX. Although had it not been for Ram offering the TRX the Raptor R may not exist. Thankfully it does. While even today you may still get the Raptor with the 3.5L or step it up to the R with the monster V8. Depends how deep in your packets your willing to dig. Both Raptor with the 3.5L and the R with the 5.2 supercharged come with active exhaust. Sounds can be adjusted in both platforms. Not just the R.. Both come with active suspensions and rear coils spring fourlink rear suspension. Obviously the V8 models screams badassery. But can’t compare to the 2011 model. The 2011 model was at the top of its class in its own time. Smaller cabin area lower hp and built with a much different chassis than the newer model. To compare the 2011 would be to compare it to any other 2011 F150 from its time.
In my opinion, the 3.5 Raptor is the peak Raptor. The weight distribution is perfect. A V6 is less torquey, but you have great midrange and high end grunt which is the absolutely perfect range for a Baja truck motor to live in.
For some reason I always have trouble getting used to paddle shifters. I wonder if there is a sequential style shifter mod for this? 🤔 Really dope truck by the way, and my condolences on the Mustang man. 😔
......I'm sorry, but that's just dumb. You NEVER want to take your hands off the wheel in a truck like this. Having a sequential shifter in a truck like this is just ergonomically stupid. Paddles are a different way of shifting, certainly, but they're a lot safer in a high-power beast like this.
@@spdcrzy Maybe with your limp azz wrist... Lol, jk. But seriously, I used to drive a square body with big block that the power steering went out in, and I drove it left handed only all the time. It's all what you're used too.
@@The_True_ it's not about the steering. It's simply about being able to react more quickly. If you have to take your hand off the wheel in a seven hundred horsepower truck to shift, one wrong bounce or one missed shift and it's game over. It's simply safer. Manuals and sequential shifters are definitely more fun. But I'd feel much more in control with both hands on the wheel at all times.
@@spdcrzy Oh I get it man, it's definitely true, but those paddles that rotate with the wheel just mess with me because shift up is on the right, then left, then right again. Lol. I like rally racing myself, and those guys all rock the true sequential setup with that oversized shifter going flat out on some rough terrain. It's all what you are used to and comfortable with in the end.
There was one in my city for sale $152,000 😮
The raptor/bronco are the most capable factory off road vehicles ever made they make the hummer h1 look soft
😂😂😂thats funny
You high 😂
I can go places in my $4k 26 year old jeep that a raptor wouldnt dream of going near.
Have to test drive the Shelby F150 now !
spiritual successor to the ford svt lightning?
no the lightning is a fast street truck which ford needs to make pronto!
@@snozbaries7652 yeah I agree these massive swaying behemoths are definitely not "sport truck" material. There is no quality sport truck in production by anyone currently with only the Ford Maverick making a (totally lame) attempt at that with a total piece of junk CVT transmission. Honda might make some noise with their Ridgeline product tho as at least it still has a V6 unlike cough, cough *TOYOTA 4 BANGERS* cough, cough. Oddly enough the best out there as imminent if Rivian stays in business will be the Rivian R2 series of pure play BEV.
What a weapon. I have the ranger raptor here in oz and I love it. But to have this V8 would be nuts
Just wait till they release the 20 hp increased one. I've been in the raptor R and it was spinning every time you hit the gas and then it also had aftermarket wheels and tires that were much much larger than the stock ones. The day after I've drove in a TRX with the same wheel set-up and it felt sluggish compared to the raptor R. It wasn't slow but it didn't have that fast feeling of the RaptorR
Now we just need an AWD mustang or another platform for ford to do a supercharged v8 AWD.
Would also be happy with 3.5 ecoboost AWD sports car of some sort. Think it would be cool if ford made something to compete with the Nissan GTR.
I remember when a brand new Raptor was actually attainable by a broader range of people, as even the 6.2l version was about $41k. Expensive yes even I, a poor, believed at one point id be able to buy a new Raptor. Well, not anymore.
How much is it?
i love my first gen. the boss 6.2 though it has a drinking problem is a great engine
I did a review and have shorts on my channel
It’s almost as coool as the
Vulcan in my 01 Ranger
You need to actually take it off road if you want to see what it can do! Now THAT sounds like a fun video that I would definitely watch!
I wanted an original Raptor with the V8. Then, when they switched to the turbo 6, I was less interested. Either way, they were way out of budget. The Raptor R seems to be a beast though. But I think I'd rather something like the Shelby F150 Super Snake as I always loved street trucks.
After watching you for years I could be wrong but have you never driven a saleen F150?
I always thought the first gen was a supercharged V8, real Mandela effect for me
I think roush or Hennessy had a factory package for the Gen 1 raptor
you're probably thinking of one of the after market companies that supercharged it.
Dude i was messing with one in Forza and thought the same thing.
Naw bro wtfff. I swear to god it was supercharged too 😂
The Henssey Velociraptor back in the day got alot of press coverage. That was supercharged. I always forgot that the early raptors came with 2 differnt engines though
We got Warthog before GTA 6 😂
Cleetus did a head to head between the r and the trx and they were pretty close down a full quarter mile. The trx beat the r off the line and then the raptor would sneak by it. Both were stock to my knowledge.
Midnight performance out the box street truck!!!
you forgot to mention there was a 4.3 ecoboost raptor aswell
Me Watching this video as a trx driver is ripping it across the street 😂
I don’t need it… I don’t need it…. I NEEEED ITTT
And the Rivian R1T has 15 inches of ground clearance and the quad motor is 835 HP. If range anxiety isn’t a big deal? A lot in a small package.
I can only imagine the dealer mark up on these!
might be a better investment that S&P 500 stock if you keep it 15 years?
I’ve had a few Raptors and they are fantastic. I would’ve loved an R but I draw the line at six digits for a vehicle. Can’t do it.
I've seen throttle house do a drag race and the trx smoked it from a dig and the raptor win in the roll race not sure in the real world if its so much quicker as you claim even on Cletus's channel it was a drivers race think its more of a pick the one you like.
You need to test drive a Shelby F150 Raptor and an Shelby F150 Supersnake and a Shelbt F150 Baja Raptor.
You've been holding this review from us !??😮
Best truck ever
“…and on that note”. I wish I could drive one.
Well since the white mustang is gone unfortunately. I’d say this would be a hell of an addition to your fleet if you bought a Raptor R 👌🏼
You need to go for a spin in one of kibbetechs trucks or even Izzy fab!
Hope you enjoyed San Diego
I get that everyone wanted a V8 Raptor, but I was hoping to see this engine in a 2wd lowered F150. Ford already reused the Lightning name and moved the Tremor name from 2wd to 4wd, so I don't know what they'd call it. Guess it's never gonna happen.
I feel like the Rator r is a much more well rounded package. The trx is just a ram 1500 with the hellcat engine plopped on it and some monor suspension upgrades.
You obviously know nothing about the TRX . It got the same treatment as that F150..
I wish i coulda messaged you when you were nearby in cali. I have a 20k mile 2003 mach1 in azuer blue and id have let you take it for a spin.
If it looked like the 2000's step side f-150 it'd be sick. Unfortunately, I don't find the new trucks attractive. The Ram though... That thing has sauce and I'd buy it over the Raptor R if I had the money
Fiesta Island 😅 SD 👊🏾
Now you got to do another review of taking this off-roading.
In Los Angeles Ford Dealerships they're selling for between $209,000 USA to $260,000 I have footage of it too. In January 2024 they were $209,000 to $230,000. I couldn't afford it. I could only afford a Roush F150 with the 5.0 V8 in White is Beautiful.👨🏻👍🏻🏎️🏁🚩
We do gotta thank the TRX though for forcing ford to make this Raptor R, was getting tired of that eco boost 🤣
I wonder what this could do to an altima
I wonder what an altima could do to this
Awesome truck Ford power forever baby Chevy and dodge killer the best never rest they just keep getting better
Huh, I've seen this truck in solana Beach. Small world.
OCEANSIDE!
I'd hate to see what repair costs would be if that broke in any way
FORD POWER BAAAAAAAABAAAAAYYYYY 💥💥💥💥💥
I still like the old lightning. Two door, red, no nannies.
Nah man…….price is way too high for the Raptor R. In Canada with mark up(good luck finding one without mark up) it’s $200,000.
MSRP is $162,000 CND with no extra options.
That truck fully load should be $105,000 and no more
Raptor R over TRX all day everyday! Ram screwed up making the TRX AWD. Can’t even do a burnout in the TRX unless you remove the front driveshaft. I’m not brand loyal
They put AWD in a truck? Thats CRAZY! Why would they do that???
The exterior and interior aesthetics of the TRX are way better, not to mention the supercharger whine and launch control system! The 37-inch tires vs the TRXs 35s and the weight advantage are all the RR has on the TRX, and the fact that you can put it in RWD only for smoky burnouts, thats awesome, good job Ford. They both have their pros and cons. The trucks are near identical in 0-60 and quarter mile times like within a tenth or two. Which is surprising because technically the RR with its huge weight advantage and equal power should smoke the TRX, but it doesn't and thats because the Hellcat engine is under-rated from the factory and because of the gearing in the TRX. You can't go wrong with either truck, but if you're a Ford fan boy, you gotta thank the Ram TRX for the Raptor Rs existence. If there was never a TRX, there would never have been a Raptor R either! Ram/SRT engineers pushed Ford performance engineers to answer them with a real competitor, and Ford did just that! Bravo to both companies!
Pleaseeeee drive a new tundra trd pro!
RIP Cali Nate 🙏
Sounds like you found a replacement for sub-zero.......😁
Love it!
You need to drive the Ranger Raptor now. Every bit as capable, but not as imposing, size-wise. And
The title is funny but considering I own an f150 power boost and a Trx ford still has the most problems key fob works when it wants too meaning it won’t lock or unlock even start not to mention truck only is 1years old speakers blowing even tho ford has the worst sound system meanwhile dodge built a fucking tank and I truly understand why most UA-camrs have Trxs and not f150s cleetus is the only one frfr 😂😂
2024 Raptor R bumps the power from 700 to 720.
interesting how they didnt put a supercharger on the godzilla
As a TRX owner, if I could afford a Raptor R, I’d only have a Raptor R
Raptor R owners can thank Ram for making the TRX. Because without it, you still have that awful fire inducing 6cyl crap!
Put that in a smaller truck, ranger or something smaller. 4wd 700hp 👍
wait a minute this thing has paddles but needs a shifter?
Gotta admit though, Ford would have never put a V8 into the Raptor if Ram didn’t make the TRX. Everybody wins lol
Yeah yeah yeah. And the TRX wouldn't have been made if they weren't trying to one-up the regular Raptor in the first place. Competition breeds better and better stuff. Duh.
@@xtnuser5338 Good job repeating basically exactly what I already said, Squirt!
@@TonyTheTruckGuy Thanks Dad!
The Raptor R is insanely awesome, there's no doubt about it.
However, there's just something about the TRX that I'd rather spend my money on.
The biggest difference between Ford and Dodge trucks , is that the Ford won't rust away in a couple years . The only reason to buy a Dodge truck is to get the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine . And even then you want to get an old 12 valve Cummins , not a new one .
Need to make that your daily.
In my boner stock 2023 Ram TRX, I hit a 3.5 second 0-60 MPH time! In sport mode with launch control set at 2200 RPM!
Stelllantis knew they should just go electric.
I prefer the ram trx but the raptor r I'd good to
Should have had the 7.3 in it.
Only thing the raptor has over the TRX is the ability of just straight up 2wd in my opinion
