For anyone else still struggling. I could not get my T7 to work on my M2 air, and could not complete these instructions on the air either. I had to do these instructions on my M1 pro, and I also updated the firmware on the M1, and then it worked fine on my M2. There are other videos that tell you how to get the Samsung software to work on your mac devices. Those videos and this video will get you there. Good luck.
This is an awesome Mac tutor how to choose format disk methods and using time machine in very detailing explanation and very easy to understanding. Thank you.
This video was perfect! You described it slowly and in great detail, showing each step. I am new to Mac, only 2 months and I don't want to mess anything up. So now i know how to use my Samsung T7 Shield External Hard Drive for a back-up and save my pictures too. I seem to be fighting with iCloud with my pictures so I'm going to put my main file on this drive. Thank you so much.
Clear & nicely paced for all people likely to be watching. The speed that some others rush presentation & steps is so unsuitable. My only question is that I have both older AND new MACS. Should I choose the older MACOS EXTENDED format and then will it read/write (perhaps at lower speeds?) BOTH older and be upwards compatible to newer MACS too? (Now using MAC Air M1)
Perfect video. You could have mentioned that if APFS is not showing, you can simply first set it to ExFat and then after that you are able to set it to APFS
i don't have apfs. I only have mac os (journaled), mac os extended (case sensitive, journaled), MS-DOT (FAT), exFAT. Which one should I use? I am using Ventura OS and using the SSD to store my plug-ins for Garageband.
Is it okay to partition (say 50/50) a Samsung T7 and use 1/2 of the capacity for Time Machine Backups and the other 1/2 for storage of files you want to move off you mac's hard-drive to free up space?
Question: I've got a brand new T7 2TB drive and I notice it's already formatted with ExFAT. What advantage is there in following your "erase" and reformatting operation? I can already read and write it. You are right, of all the choices, ExFAT is the best for me.
Hello, thank you for the great video. Regarding the automated backup . Does this mean when I connect the SSD everytime , it will back up starting from it stopped the previous time ? I am talking especially about backing up photos . This mean when I connect the external drive, it will start from where it stopped last time ? Thanks
I followed all the instructions in the video but How do I put photos into my Samsung T7 ssd external hard drive using my MacBook? Can you please make a video?
Really informative, thank you. Clear and concise instructions. Just bought a T7 touch, do you need a password and fingerprint or can you just use your fingerprint? Thank you. Sorry to be a nuisance but once it is installed, can you just open and access using the fingerprint/password?
Thank you very much for this extra clear explanation. It works perfectly now with the APFS option because I only use my disk for BackUp. I've a question for you. I'm using ADOBE Lightroom and I've thousands of photos stored on another externat SSD ExFAT formated. Unfortunately this SSD ExFAT has automaticaly been positioned in the "Exclude from backup" list and impossible to remove it from this list. How can I backup my ExFAT SSD to my APFS disk dedicated for backup with Time Machine ? Thank you by advance from Paris - Cheers
This seems good but most of video is about making back ups, not 1. time innstallment. Should be clearfied?: Do you really have to decide about back ups 1. time you innstalll?
Can’t you just plug and play with the Samsung T7? It comes automatically By default ExFat I have a new 2023 Air book mac. Then u don’t have to erase or reformat what came with it. Does ExFat make the hard drive smaller if ur using it for Mac and windows ? I ask cause why not use default ExFat in case u ever want to get something from windows . Why limit ur self to just the Mac format ?
I have Mac OS Monterey 12.7.1 and can't load my new Samsung T7 SSD I just bought. I had one I never used and tried to use it but it said I needed a pass word that I didn't have. I followed some instructions I found on another UA-cam page which said to go to Samsung page or call a number to customer service. I tried to call but they were closed so I followed some written instructions. I erase the old SSD installation and downloaded a newer up to date installation . That didn't work it went back to asking for a password so I just bought a new one. Now I try to install my new SSD and it says "A newer version of the software is currently installed. If you wish to continue, please delete the currently installed version and try again." I went in to delete any old Samsung Software I could find but found none in any folder. So now Im stuck. If anyone knows how to get out this so I can download my new Samsung SSD let me know. It would be so greatly appreciated.
This was EXCELLENT. Very clear directions and explanations. So glad I watched it before I set up my Samsung T7. Thank you!
