I hope you can answer a couple questions. 1) how do you charge the T7 if you don't have a computer? 2) Can you COPY photos/video instead of MOVING so I have them in both places?
Hello, the T7 doesn't need to be charged, it gets powered by whatever it is plugged into so the phone should power the drive. Yes, you can copy and paste instead of moving to have them in both places.
Thanks for this informative and clear video. I'm wondering if there is a 'right' way to disconnect/ eject the SSD from the phone afterwards so that data is not lost? Also, for how many years might the T7 SSD last before we'd need to replace it? thanks again.
You're welcome! To eject the drive, navigate to the Samsung Apps folder and choose My Files, scroll down until you see the USB drive and click on the 3 dots beside it and choose unmount. I don't ever do this but it's probably safer to do so. As far how long it should last, I'm not sure...I have been using my T5 and T7 everyday for a couple of years now and have had no issues. 👍
I am able to do this on the new iPhone but I have not tried it on an android phone. If it doesn’t work natively with the Galaxy A71, there is an app that should make it work with an ssd called mcppro24fps.

@@Johann_theKing if you are asking about using the iPhone 15 pro to record videos directly to the T7 drive, yes you can…however the question was asking if you can do the same thing with a galaxy phone, which I am not sure about.
You can use the same cable for your computer if it has the same inputs (usb-c), otherwise you’ll have to use the other cable with the older (usb-a) end.

I have a S20 and didn't have to download an app. I just plugged it in and it works perfectly. I will get a restart your phone message if I just unplug it instead of dismounting it properly. But never an issue. Hope you get it figured out
@Tacopusher the app is not compatible with the T7 for some reason, it specifies that its only for T3 and T5. If you have password protection enabled on the T7 you can't use it with a phone because you need the app to unlock it, which you can't do because SAMSUNG HASNT ADDED T7 TO THE APP. fuck I hate Samsung sometimes.
It sounds like you need to re-format the drive...if it is in NTFS format now, you need to change it to ex-fat format. Just Google how to format a Samsung T5 SSD and make sure you set it to ex-fat and I believe it should work.

To simulate what that will be like, I've turned off both the cell signal and wifi, taken a photo, and then attempt to move it from the phone to the T7. I can highlight the test photo within Google Photos on the phone (not uploaded) but do not see an option to copy, move, etc. I have the Samsung T7 app on the phone, and on my Macbook Air so I can also test sending the test photo from the T7 to the Mac once I'm home. Any suggestions?
I can open the Samsung T7 android app on the phone, but once there the only options are checking firmware updates and enabling/disabling Lock Security (I've tried it both ways, no change.)
I'm not familiar with the Razr phone but it should have a Gallery or something like that, where the photos go when you take them? You don't need the Samsung App to transfer files from the phone to the drive or vice-versa. Are you planning to take the MacBook on the trip with you?

I don't recall having to install any software to use the drive, I just plugged it into the phone.
I have a S20 and didn't have to download an app. I just plugged it in and it works perfectly. I will get a restart your phone message if I just unplug it instead of dismounting it properly. But never an issue. Hope you get it figured out
Did you figure it out? Because this video was Not helpful at all
Had the same issue with my 23 ultra,
Uninstall the app and you'd be good to go .
Thanks for the information!
Just got a T5. When I try to transfer vids from my phone to the storage device it says it is NTFS format and I can't transfer. Help?
I have an S22 ultra
It sounds like you need to re-format the drive...if it is in NTFS format now, you need to change it to ex-fat format. Just Google how to format a Samsung T5 SSD and make sure you set it to ex-fat and I believe it should work.
THANK YOU!!!
You're welcome!!! 👍
T5 faster than t7?!!
Do they both have the same file system format ?
Are they both formated as ntfs or exfat?
They are both formatted as exfat.
can you play videos from SSD from inside phone?
Yes, you can play videos from the drive on your phone.
can we connect any SSD to Samsung S10??
Yes, you should be able to connect any ssd to the Samsung S10.
When i copy a mp4 to transfer into my ssd the move button is not highlighted
You can either copy and paste the mp4 file or you can use the move button to move the mp4 file from phone to ssd.
Thanks for the information! Super easy once plugged in its all copy and paste from there.
You're welcome! Yes, once it's hooked up it's very easy to move things around. 👍
Not on all Samsung phones. Not working at all with my S10+....that's why I'm currently on hold with Samsung customer service 😂
@@she_sings_delightful_things I have a Samsung S10+ and it worked great for me!
@@HowToDIYMoore I think I got a bum SSD! Samsung was utterly useless, too....after waiting a while 45 mins on hold 🙄
I've used these before with no prob, I wonder if it's a phone setting?
hHi Samsung T7 2TB is compatible with a Samsung M51 phone?
I believe the Samsung T7 should be compatible with any Samsung/Android phone.
Despite this being the very 1st time use after receiving delivery:
Samsung T7 shield SSD to Galaxy Tab s6:
Constant (error) msg:
"RESTART YOUR TABLET
A USB storage device was removed unsafely. To prevnt your tablet frm restarting unexpectedly, save unsaved data and restart now
Restart"
However it does not show any such errors when connected to an old Redmi fon.
Haven't tried transferring any files using SSD yet.
Is there any way to not format the SSD? I wanted to transfer pictures from my T7 to my s23+, but when i plug it in, it says I have to format it? Any suggestions?
The drive may not be formatted correctly for the phone to read it. It needs to be in the exFAT format and not NTFS.
@ScooterMediaVideos Thank you. I'll look into this
May be a stupid question, can you view pictures and watch videos straight from the phone when the ssd is plugged in? Rather than moving the files to the phone.
If yes, is it smooth and fast while playing videos?
Not a stupid question at all, but yes you can watch pictures/videos straight from the phone and everything plays smooth and normal.
@@ScooterMediaVideos thanks u
@@ScooterMediaVideos If you use a Samsung or other brands USB flash disk stick or a micro sd card inserted into an adapter to connect to the phone, would it work the same like your video? Does the external storage needs to be a Samsung T5/T7 SSD? Thanks.
@@jasonl4237 yes the phone comes with an adapter to be able to plug in a USB flash drive etc. and it works the same way as the drives for copying and moving files.
I have a Motorola Razr + I'm trying to use with a Samsung T7 on an upcoming trip where there will be no cell signal and limited wifi. I want to transfer each day's photos from the phone to the T7.
@@williammatthies3754 these are the steps when using a Samsung phone, maybe it might help:
1. connect drive to phone using usb-c cable.
2. navigate to the Samsung Folder and click on My Files.
3. click on Internal Storage and then the DCIM folder and then the Camera folder.
4. tap and hold on one of the photos you wish to move and then select all of the photos you wish to move. (they should have checkmarks beside them)
5. once all photos are selected hit the copy button at the bottom of the page.
6. Navigate back to the My Files folder and choose the USB storage 1 (or whatever the USB storage folder is called...this is the Samsung drive)
7. now either select Copy Here to put it on the root of the drive or select the 3 dots at the top right and Create Folder to make a new folder to add the photos to and then hit Copy Here
8. the photos should be copied onto the drive and you can now delete them from the phone if you wish.
Can I connect to a IPhone ??
I am sure you can however I have not tried it as I only had an Android.
can't we directly transfer whole folder to ssd from mobile ?
I just tried this and it seems as though you can't transfer a whole folder directly which is weird, but I have never tried it before.
Is it just me , or is the Samsung Portable SSD can only connect to samsung phones ? I have a OPPO phone and i cannot seem to connect it at all.... kinda sad since they say "android device" and also being able to connect it to my phone is one of the main reasons i bought it over the other portable ssd brands
I don't have any experience with OPPO phones but I have used the drive with different Samsung phones and never had an issue.
You need to turn on otg connection.i have used Samsung T7 ssd with Oppo (Reno2F) and is working, but tranfer speed was too slow . Dont know about other oppo model.
But transfer speed with Samsung A53 was quick
@@citybeats7532 i have already turn on otg connection and it still not working. So i endep up contacting samsung support to ask if the ssd can actually connect to my oppo phone series. And they said it can't connect to my phone series which is the OPPO F7 😅. Btw my phone is the OPPO F7.
Is this ssd support with Samsung galaxy note 8 phone ?
It should as long as the Note 8 has a usb-c port...I am still using it with the samsung galaxy 9 and it is working fine.
Great video, your help is much appreciated, BIG THANX
You’re welcome! Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! 👍
The speed on transfering via ssd from smartphone is still slower up to date now unlike on lapato or tablet.
Nice
Thanks!!!
How do you set up a password on the SSD when used with a mobile phone not a laptop
@@jamesmcghie7748 I’m not sure, I have never used a password with any of my drives.
You can't do it because the mobile software does not have it.
Is it gonna work with OnePlus Nord phone?
It should work if it's an android phone.
@@ScooterMediaVideos yeah it is, based on Android 12
It says "issue SSD encrypted". How do I fix this?
I am not sure, I have not seen this.
It means you need to disable encryption on the drive by hooking up to a PC and then using Samsungs software. I'm not sure what software. Just trying to reason it out. I wonder if just formatting it exfat will fix this problem.
My t7 just doesn't show up on my s20
I have a WD and its not showing
I haven't used a WD SSD so I don't know if they're compatible with android phones.
I'm still confused on how to transfer my photos to the SSD T7 from my Samsung Gal 20FE phone
You should be able to drag and drop them or copy and paste them like on a computer.
My T7 shield is not working with samsung J7 refine or my s10 plus. How do I fix that issue?
If it's not being recognized by the phone, connect it to a computer and disable the password/security on the drive and then try connecting it to the phone to see if that helps to fix it.
@@ScooterMediaVideos But I don't have a PC or a laptop. I just got it yesterday.

If you have any other questions, please let me know. 👍
I have bought an ssd 7 and it works on everything I have in our home (samsung tablet, 2 old huwawei phones, an a53) except on my phone where I bought it for.
I only get the message that it's charging but can't open the sdd to store pictures or video of my garden projects.
Anyone else experienced this problem?
First time I did 4h of research and found nothing useful, than I updated my phone and it worked 1 time. So now it's back to nothing except that it's charging
I've heard some people have had issues if they create a password on the drive from a computer and then try and use it with a phone. If it is password protected, try removing the password and plugging it into the phone and then create a new password with the phone. I've also heard of some people needing to download the Samsung Portable App depending on the phone.
This video is for an android not an iPhone - do you have instructions for using an iPhone?
I do not own an iPhone to be able to connect the drive to it but there are other videos on here of people using it with an iPhone.
@@ScooterMediaVideos Thanks. So far I have seen videos on how to transfer docs from ssd to the iPhone but not the reverse. Thanks anyway.
@@KARICKTER you should be able to just drag and drop items from the iPhone onto the ssd.

It should work with the galaxy 9 plus and there are many adapters that you can buy to get it to work with your older laptop.
Yep doesn't work on my s9+ either, for some reason my Segate Goflex Usb3.0 hdd works but a damn usb c samsung ssd can't work wtf samsung
Have you setup the security/password on the ssd using a computer? If so try disabling it and then connect it to the phone and see if it works and then setup the security/password through the phone.
How about iPhones?
The Samsung drives work with iPhones but you need the Apple Lightning to USB 3 camera adapter, as well as a power source like a portable charger. There are many videos on UA-cam that show how to use them with iPhones.
@@ScooterMediaVideos Thanks!😊👍
I keep reading T7 has failed for many people. The T5 is quicker.
I've been reading posts everywhere.
This is false advertising. The T7 is faulty. It's speed varies considerably.
People are going back to T5.
With Mobile, so far as I read.
I have had a T7 1tb drive for 2 years and a T7 4tb drive for 1 year and have had zero issues with either...I'm looking at getting a T9 as they've been so reliable. My T5 is still going strong after 3 years as well.
Yeah baby I have a Samsung T7 Gray 500GB formatted ext4 connected to an Nvidia Shield Android TV Pro version 11 can't upgrade the T7 via a Portable software installed via Apk (maybe Eset or Dr. Web Security Space) after connecting the T7 to my android 10 phone the Samsung Portable software detected a firmware upgrade but it can't install the upgrade the android just show me a message to give the upgrade via Windows then after connect the T7 to Windows 11 the Portable Software can't communicate to the server so I contacted the Samsung customer service and they asked me if I was using an Antivirus, Vpn or user rights and I said yes a KIS then I disabled the KIS for a moment and I got an upgrade fast and easy Samsung T7 4 Life ⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⭐😉
