    Dude, SUPER HELPFUL! upgrading from my T5. Which I use as a working drive to edit photos and video. seeing you transfer 160GB in under 3 minutes is crazy!
    this has sold me on the T9 over T7...time to speed up workflow! gonna get the 2TB, used to only 1TB working drive to I can store more and ready to shoot more 4k files!
    Great video, was not bored, great visuals and info. Awesome work my man! Thank you 🏴‍☠

    Random benefit to that USB-A to USB-C cable that's included: it's great for connecting the iPhone 15 series phones to older cars that have CarPlay. I ran into issues with lightweight (and as it turns out, charging only) A-to-C cables, but the cable that comes with the Samsung T-series SSDs is perfect! They're nice and short, and can handle the data transfer requirements for CarPlay connections. I stick with the USB-C only cable for connecting my Samsung SSD to the Mac.

    • @StalwartMan
      @StalwartMan 7 місяців тому +1

      @@samueladams584 Hi 👋🏻 The T7'i model is quite sufficient, I can transfer the photos/videos I want from my IPhone 15 Pro max to the T7 or vice versa easily, it is a very fast storage product.
      Depending on your usage scenario, the T7 will definitely be enough.

  • @BCE-111

    Thanks :) This was great useful info. Another factor here is the T9 costs about twice as much as the T7. :) I was going to sell my T7 Shield I haven't used yet in anticipation of Black Friday sales on the T9. But if 50GB and under files, which is what I'd be transferring mostly, transfer at the same rate, maybe I'll just keep my T7. Plus I really don't like the lint problem. I think the reason for that is they needed to make it porous for heat disipation.

    I get that the rubber makes the T9 more durable, but if the metal underneath dissipates heat, than where will that heat go? Seems like it would go into the rubber mostly, and rubber isn't a good conductor of heat. Is that rubber sheath removable? The cup analogy for the cache was great.

    • @AppleInsider
      @AppleInsider  10 місяців тому +6

      The cover is not removable, unfortunately. BUT, I havent had any issues with the T7 Shield which has basically the same. They must have saw no issues with the T7 Shield cover so implemented the same thing here with the T9! Im actually surprised they didn't do a coverless version though. You can get a regular T7 without the rubber coating.

    • @quantx6572
      @quantx6572 10 місяців тому +2

      @@AppleInsider Yeah, testing must have showed the rubber protection was ok. If I was going to wrap the drive with rubber protection, however, I might have went with a cover design that leaves patches of the metal underneath visible. But hey, that's just me, and I'm not an engineer, lol.
      I wondered the same thing, why isn't the T9 available without the extra exterior protection. Hopefully it's coming soon, for I don't need the extra protection.
      These little drives are pretty amazing. the T5/T7 speeds are plenty fast for most of us. I still have a 560 MB/s 2TB G-Drive Mobile SSD from six years ago that has never given me an issue and is still running strong. The reliability and lifetime of these SSDs is impressive.

Reformat as APFS and run the Black Magic Speed test so we can get a better feel for how fast the drive is. Thanks.

    The TB4 ports on Mac support USB 4.0 which is even faster. It will not likely have backwards compatibility for these drives only now hitting the market. 2x2 was an interim spec bump. IMO do not buy. Wait for USB 4.0 which is already in some products unless you really need a SSD now and cannot wait

    One thing I found out, the included usb-c to usb-c is not capable of sustained speeds. if you say use it for 4k video capture on 15 pro as an example, after 28 seconds, you will see dropped frames. I bought some usb c cables which were usb 3.2 gen 2 and they worked fine. silly that Samsung does not include the cable meant for those speeds

    This 170gb of cache is for the 4tb models of the T9 only. At 2tb cache sizes are more in line with the T7. I Googled it. Is cache size super important. Yes and no. I have a 500gb T5 to transfer files between computers. I am a volume photo editor and my folders are routinely over 100gb. I think my cache is 23gb. I regularly over run the cache. Is my drive slower? Yes. Is it unbearably slower? No. Is that 5 minutes that you save transferring a 160gb file all that important to you? Only you can answer that.

      Don't get me started on USB-C! I did a whole video about why the standard is kind of awful! The idea is great but the implementation has been terrible.

      @@AppleInsider okay, will watch. Thanks! Yeah the USBC was nice, but same issue as with all cables. Not only do different ports make a difference, also the vast amount of different quality cables makes it nightmare

    Wait I thougth TB4 spec was cross-compatible with the USB 3.2 2x2 spec. Shouldn't the device be able to negotiate the highest speed it supports?

    Did you insert your USB-A cable into a fast USB-A port? maybe you just put it into a USB-A 2.0 port? and that's why the speed is slow?
