- In today’s episode of the Cozy Cabin Series, we face a critical challenge as we correct a major misstep in our cabin build. After installing our 400 amp power meter base askew, and being rightfully called out by my WAR BAND for the shoddy work, it's time for a thorough fix. Join me, Wranglerstar, and my manservant as we meticulously straighten the power base station to ensure our cozy cabin's electrical setup is both safe and efficient.
But that's not all we're tackling today! Follow along as we lay down a robust 3" conduit from the power pole to our newly straightened power base station. We’ll take you through every step of the process, sharing both the technical details and the hard-earned lessons along the way.
We also test the water pressure and volume in our recently installed 3/4" frost-free yard hydrant, crucial for maintaining water supply in our rustic retreat throughout the year. Whether you're a seasoned DIYer or just curious about cabin life, you’ll find valuable insights and real-time problem-solving in this episode.

he could have got jeriah a coke too
Goodness, no! I wouldn’t give this poison to my manservant,
Thank you for the reply and always speaking your mind
@wranglerstar how does one email you? Please
@@wranglerstar I'll always remember Cody telling a young Jack that the candy that he "won" playing a carnival game was poison. Until you completely detox yourself from processed sugar, you have no idea how much it can control your mind. 100% poison. But, we all know how addictions go...
@@wranglerstar😂
It’s now an official project. Redoing work, and multiple trips to the hardware store.
Yep - that’s my story
Same story here. I consider the hardware store my storage facility. I’m there so much. Had an old lady ask me for help the other day to find some dowels and knew exactly where to take her. Haha :)
“I know more than you” -Ron Swanson.
It gets real when you start seeing the same cashier multiple times a day
Its not legit if something that should take 15 minutes doesnt rake 3 hours
Being from Kentucky, the most satisfying thing about this video is seeing dirt that you can actually dig.
Boy I can relate to that Kentucky as well 😂
Southeast Ky gravedigger here, I can relate
I like that "we will dig" part where Jeriah does all the shovel work.
Mr. Jeriah is a good man
Great to see him carrying on the job, no matter the task. Cheers
I hope Mr.Jeriah is well compensated.
Strike 1, don’t use a power saw on your lap
Strike 2, measure from the top of the pipe you buried to a mark on the board so you know how far you can dig before you need to get out and look for the pipe. Helps if you bury it in a little stone or sand as well.
Strike 3, figure out how far you want this thing off the road then pull a measurement off the road edge and set 2 stakes that you’ll make without sawing them on your lap then pull a string between them. Now just back up your vertical boards to the string and plum them. Ne electric eyeball, no redigging, no guesswork. It’s just right the first time
Jones has obviously transcended PROhO
Great to see this kind of programming back on this channel 👌
He who says he never makes a mistake is the one that never does anything.👍👏👏🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸👍🇬🇧
I’ll never forget responding to a call of a construction worker who decided to cut some wood the way you did. He did not fair so well. I got to the scene first then paramedics and fire. The guy was holding his thigh with both hands. Paramedics told him to remove his hands so they could assess the injury. When he removed his hands I could see a large white pink slice down his entire thigh all the way to the bone. After what seemed like forever the blood started running like a garden hose. This was in 1986 and I can still see it like it was yesterday. Remember safety first. That was a rookie move for the proho lol.
I don’t expect anything less
You Westcoast boys have easy digging. Here in Northeast Pennsylvania, you wouldn't find anywhere a 2×6 stake would get pounded in by hand... no chance at all. *I dug foundations for nearly 15 years here.
Yes, East coast man has ruined his soil, :)
Northwest pa here, I do construction, I almost commented on easily he pounded that 2x6 in the ground. I was like hahaha, no way you are doing that over here buddy!
@@tonymatthews445uhm no? We didn’t do anything to our soil by n large, it’s a rain forest basically over here, the soil is rich and dense, lots of stones and rocks, we get way more rain than you guys, our soil is more packed. We’re talking just about the ground in general over here, not a field a farmer ruined the soil in with poor agriculture practices lol.
east and west coast have no reason to complain about digging. Foot hills of the Rockies here, where the frost depth is 5 feet and the rocks are held in by the expanding clay.
@@tonymatthews445 Ya, PA had the Appalachian Mountains before the Rockies were dreamed of by Nature, they are much older than the Rockies, and are wearing down. All those rocks went into the soil along with the shale/clay. Depending on where you're at, bedrock is near the surface and getting a basement for a home/bldg is a 'blast' to get.
I love the way you work so clean.. I CAN'T STAND a messy work space.. I keep my work space clean and organized or my head explodes and I can't do the work. It is so frustrating working with people who aren't clean and organized when they work. At any rate, I love the way you work. I'd give my lift leg to be in Jeriah's position!! Except I'd be of much less use without my left leg. Anyway, thanks for your amazing channel.... I so wish I knew you in person! My goodness the conversations we'd have! I know you know it's flat too!
This series is awesome. The production quality is fantastic. Thanks for making it so enjoyable
Now the frost free hydrant isn't lined up with the power panel....
My thoughts exactly. Come on proho.
"Listen here you little sh-"
Makita is the Toyota 4runner of power tools. Time tested reliability you can't compare!
With all the care and attention to detail you put into every little thing you do i cant wait to see how this cabin turns out
Yes can’t wait until the year 2064 when it’ll finally be finished!
If that's the biggest mistake in the entire Cozy Cabin series, you're doing okay. 🙂
PVC connections are such a messy job; was surprised not to see the purple activator all over everything.
I got the permit back today from the planning department for my new deck. I've never really built anything before, but I'm going to step away from the keyboard for a while and build it myself. I should learn a lot (just getting the building permit has been an education), I won't have to worry about some shady contractor doing substandard work, and I'll save a lot too. Deck builders are charging $80-$120 per sq ft around here to build decks!!! I've estimated the cost to build it myself at $35/sq ft including materials and tool rentals/purchases. Mistakes will be made, I'm sure. Watching Wranglerstar has inspired me to give it a go 😎.
You said you'd start by making stake... but let's not forget that the start was the mistake.... :) Also, don't overcook your ribeye... that's also a misteak.
At 57 and alone off grid, my shepherd and I love watching your videos. . When I work on something, I step back and take a genera l look at it. . Keeps from from setting crooked posts. Haha. Glad you fixed it..
That Polynesian hair piece is holding up well!
may seem like a hassle to fix the alignment on that but in the long run itll pay off. my coaches always told me when i was younger "do it right or do it again". Props to you for taking the time to fix it, Good man.
Hey Cody! I'm loving this series, but seeing Jeriah have a larger part is really awesome as well! I know he's always working "behind the scenes", so to speak, but I'd love to see him feature in videos more often!
Shocked to see the yellow saw! Don’t think I’ve seen you use any colour other than red in years!
I normally enjoy your attention to detail but man, that was a lot of extra work and time to be a few inches closer to parallel to the road!
Darn it! I knew the pedestal was out of alignment on the last video but I didn’t want to question your better judgement. It takes a big man to admit a mistake and an even smarter one to have someone else fix it!
I'm going to guess the gpm won't change much if any. I think the hydrant will become the limiting factor. I know they say they're 1 inch but the way they work reduces it down some.
Great job, thanks for the video!
Ha, I would have done the same, it would have bothered me for ever to see a crooked power meter base every time you pass by!
18 minutes of awesomeness! Thanks Cody!
Its 32 F here close to Walla Wala Washington. Was a high today of 48 f. Got a fire rolling. Didn't think we would be having a fire this time of year. Just moved here from South Carolina. Well been 3 or 4 months. I am with you. Would have moved it to. Thanks for sharing brother. God Bless
When you mark the end of pipe you should measure up from the top of pipe and put a line showing the cut to top of pipe.
That's really good flow. Mine is around 40 seconds for 5 gallons
400A service for a “cozy cabin”? Sounds more like a “CODY CABIN” 😂. Love these series, keep em coming!
6:05 jeezus, that is some CRAZY flow.
Thankyou from AUSTRALIA God richly bless you the inspiration you bring is very rewarding❤❤❤
Hozier? Mazzy Star? Hell yeah!
I love the vlog type style video!
Good on you for taking the time to make that right, most people would’ve left it where it was 👍🏻
Great series thank you for the efforts
That’s pretty good pressure on the hydrant 😎😎
Yeah, he measured flow but not pressure?
Glad you have a good ole local hardware store. I’m from a small town in PA an we use to have a old True Value that was locally owned they took pride in their store. Don’t see that with these big box hardwares.
You have a great deal on water $25 mo with plenty of pressure. That’s unheard of. Thanks Again
Loving the build !!!
Watching you lay that pipe gave me flashbacks to digging in pipe along the railroad.
ANYTHING WORTH DOING IS WORTH DOING 4 OR 5 TIMES...UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT...
_Measure quarce cut twice_
I feel the Makita pain too. Their other huge problem is they no longer have any good tool/battery bundles.
Oh to be young & strong again! Turning 57 next week. 😑
A certain song keeps popping up into my head by Toby Keith, as I now struggle to do what used to be done without another thought!
I ain’t what I once was, not as he suggests in the song, but the strength, speed & agility I once had, GONE, replaced by old injuries, arthritic joints……
I now have to keep stopping myself. Nope, can’t do that any more, or a hospital visit will take place!!! 😖
I'm two years younger than you,
@@wranglerstar Your family is on my daily prayers list my brother in Christ!
Perhaps the road is misaligned….. that’s what I would keep telling myself. But I understand.
Mr Jeriah is the best homestead apprentice, although aren't we all apprentices 👍🏻
Absolutely
Thank you for the video.
You're welcome
2:44 that’s a really good 2x6 to not split from the sledgehammer
Wow he sent you a picture that’s crazy 😂
Good video and thank you much 😅
Personally, I'd have called the DOT and tell them the road was out of alignment.
Man wish the soil was that good in the hill country in Texas lol it’s solid rock 🪨
Nice job, Cody! Being a little OCD is fine with me... Why not? It makes your effort all that more satisfying... Father Yah did His work good, I would think He would want you to do as He does.... Greetings from Hood Canal!
Prayers !!!
Hardly shoddy work but that would bother us East Coast Men too. Thanks for another great video
Kudos on your correct pronunciation of the word lever. King George would be proud.
I enjoyed the ride a long!
My 3 year old loves this series
What are you doing for plumbing? Septic leach bed? IF so, how far away from the stream must you keep the leach bed? Do you have city sewage?
Best Little hardware store in the county!!
WranglerStar is impressive sometimes !
West Coast man; once is never enough. 😁
“We do it right cuz, we do it twice…” 😂
You need a conduit strap within 12" of the can.
Need a stake? BOOM we got a stake! Proho success story.
Im jealous of that dirt lol, couldn’t imagine digging a whole without rocks or being able to hammer a 2x6 into the ground 😂
Watching from Australia
Same
From the moon here
@@suspicionofdeceit How does the alignment look from up there now?
@@johngreydanus2033 Pretty darn good.
Looking good this is a fun easy project I’m thinking of making a small cabin on my property for visitors to stay in. Just curious why did you build it so close to the roadway? I get it that you purchased the property to keep from having neighbors but build right up to the road (maybe a guard shack)?
OCD ,Ashbergers is great in the long run of things ? Precision is rare today and 5:51 under appreciated ?
yep I measured once and cut it twice but it still didn't line up properly lol the SHAME 🤣 love the series keep it up Cody :D
We all make mistakes. In the end it's all about the fizz.
Mexican coke lol I trully
Enjoy your content thank you from Canada
That is a spicy amount of water flow
I probably have decided with a galvanized pipe than wood impregnated. I'm in Southern Idaho
You're badass!
first deck i ever build we had to remove ALL the boards on the perimeter because it was terrible... big deck 20x20. it was a good lesson hahaha
That’s some great looking soil. Clean. Don’t see hardly a rock in there.
Mmmmm cold start
A job so nice, you do it twice!
I hit the thumbs up button, it said resource has been exhausted. Chexk quota.
Hi Cody, I deer hunt ,and was wondering about your comment on that deer in the road meant?
East coast man does it right the first time
nice work. one question: Do you not need primer for conduit?
do you not have to have ab expansion conduit fitting coming from the ground to a meter?
With 2 Cat machines it is time for a mini concrete mixer Cody...
No expansion joint on conduit from grade into meter panel?
In AZ they make us use primer and they must be visible at the joint
It looks nice because we do it twice.
What's the setback for the cabin? It looks like it's very close to the road.
now this is funny
I’m seeing Dewalt back in your product listings again. Are you just staying is both eco systems?
It’s gonna be 27 tonight where I am at too… north Idaho.
25 gpm is pretty awesome.
Mr. J was rocking nylon mag holders on his belt. Bet they were for a 1911!
There is a piece of conduit that can move back and forth with the ground movement, it is put under the electric panel, I'm sorry remember its name. Any good supply store should now what I'm referring to. John
Expansion joint. Code requires 'em here in Colorado if you're doing anything more than just sleeving a direct buried riser from the ground.
Buyer beware... ive noticed the adversary is putting high frutose corn syrup in the Mexican cokes. 😤
I’m glad I do not have OCD. 😂
