I thought you were comparing Chinese prices to the UK. Then why are you using dollars even without country designation? Dollars come in various exchange rates depending on what country they are from.
Washington current policy to place tariffs on imports (from Canada, Mexico and China) into the US will increase US prices The largest US importers of Chinese goods are Calif, Florida and Georgia. The largest importers of Canadian goods - throughout the US Midwest and NE. 40% of Texas imports are from Mexico. States from Alabama to Arizona are big importers from Mexico. ... All this recalls Ukraine in 2014 when it shut doors to Russia who was Ukraine's largest trading partner. Despite promises from the EU, Ukrainians tell me, the Ukrainian economy never improved after 2014

There are many nuances. Choices, yes choices. For example, you can rely on an efficient public transit system without owning a car which is very costly. There's no property taxes. Rent is relatively cheap. Health care is very affordable. Food can be very cheap eating out or cooking your own because there are ways to save. Same with clothings, electronics and entertainment. So if you don't care about very fancy things, the pressure is off.
They have better purchasing power parity. Can buy more with less. Also, many things are free or extremely cheap due to government subsidies. Most national parks, museums, and zoos are free. Free basic healthcare, no property tax, no car license plate renewal, no tipping culture, university fee is around $750/year. Transportation is convenient and many amenities are walking distance. Average income is about 5000-9000 yuan/month depending on the city. You can rent a 1 bedroom apartment for $100/month in a small city. Homelessness is almost nonexistent.
Meanwhile people in China is still flocking to the west. Many apparently like to live expensively. Or is it because there is something in the west that China does not have?
Too much competition at home. Locals in the West are not particularly hard working or smart. So easier to make a living. Possibly other opportunities. Chinese are known to move to Africa to look for opportunities too.
There are several videos about that on RedNote. Main reason is because the Chinese are also sold the American Dream from the previous generation (quality of life in America has declined since). They also watch American movies and shows which doesn’t always depict the reality of American life. Also, people emigrate for various reasons including: Education, marriage, business and adventure. Chinese students entering university in China have to past the gaokao (national university entry exam). Although university is very cheap, it is very competitive to enter. Only the cream of the crop makes it. So the rest either do trade work or leave the country. Hence, you have a lot of Chinese students coming to the West.
“£3 for a couple of eggs”? 15:45. Really! What type of eggs were they - Fabergé eggs? Ocado sell 6 medium free-range eggs for £1.65, so “a couple” would be £0.55. Read up about something called “purchasing power parity” and then re-do the price comparisons. As currently presented the comparisons are meaningless - unless you’re a short-stay tourist in one of the two countries, and can and wish to physically transport purchases between destinations where there’s a cost arbitrage. One thing I do like about east Asia is that none of the countries care less about the western liberal élites’ hatred of single-use plastics, nor buy into the climate change Armageddon catastrophe nonsense.
also in china some areas are crazy cheap including rent vs some areas in china basically have close to western prices. He lives in shanghai so the prices are on the higher end. You have to look at median wages too.

Hi 蛇年快乐
@ yeah, I think this video should be directed to China and not put here in UA-cam, to tell the people don’t come to uk or the west in general.
everythung is egg and leak pie xDDDDD
Jiefang Xiao riben
What he's not telling you is that wages are much lower in China, so people can't afford to pay more.
Naïve boy. So Brexit doesn't matter for UK when importing from EU??
Food prices have 3X in the UK since the beginning of 2020 (Covid 19 and Brexit)
And the Ukraine war
In UK a dragon fruit usually costs six or seven pounds, which is about twenty times more expensive than in China, becsuse you have shown that in China 10 yuan (about 1pound) can buy you three dragon fruit.
Stop taking our women!
Western Society isn't broken. Its fixed.
Good one 😎.
@@greendragonspirit1646 I am Canadian, its the same here. One day I will immigrate to South East Asia and stay there forever. I might not even visit Canada again.
Still too much of a robot Harvey, loosen up and have some personality.
if china were so great, why haven't you revoked your citizenship and become a chinese? or you only want a uk salary and china's cost of living in the uk? that's not how the economy works. you should've also factored in the real median wage of each country and put it in your description
People should listen to the video.
He did say he was in an expensive city and expensive supermarket in China.
Half the price in smaller cities and even cheaper in wet markets.
There are more billionaires in China than in the US. China is the biggest market for luxury goods.
China is not an immigrant country. Near impossible for any foreigner not of their ethnicity to become a permanent resident. From President to garbage collector, all are indigenous Chinese.
The best for any normal foreigner is a spousal visa for long term stays.😊
你以为中国是英国,想加入就加入,哈哈哈
Imported ice cream in Singapore is about twice the price of that of Shanghai!
You and Jason (from Living in China channel) must be under assignment from the CCP to counter-smear your native Britain. I hope other fellow viewers understand my sarcastic remarks here.😂
No sarcasm needed, as we see plenty of those brainwashed idiots who spreads hate and misinformation about China.
Is not cheap . You can't convert uk money to chinese yuen spend in china. If I made 5000 a month yuen in china everything since be expensive.

What u expect rip off britannia..always been
Actually a more accurate way is to compare absolute value without converting. I am a pro China overseas Chinese but come on, lets give a more accurate comparison. I find food in China relative to their wages to be ridiculously high. I do applaud their relatively cheaper medical and tertiary education fee

Most people in England just walk out without paying. It's mostly free.
