I was likely deficient, from my proton pump inhibitor antacid medication, and taking less than the recommended dosage was no short of life changing. I was experiencing brain fog and energy issues and came across magnesium. I am so glad I decided to try this out. My mood also became more positive and less anxious. I just turned 40, but I feel like I'm in my 20s again. Again, I was likely deficient to begin with so I felt a huge impact day one.

They get to the calculation because elemental Mg in Magnesium L-Threonate is only 7%. Hence 2000mg = 144mg of Mg

    • @divinewon73
      @divinewon73 3 місяці тому +1

Therefore, to get the 420 mg men require over the age of 40, you would need about 6000 mg in order to acquire the elemental value. That is too much magnesium and certainly should be spread out over three times or four times in a day. Taking such large dosages, I was surprised that he didn’t mention large doses of magnesium can cause diarrhea.

I have barlowe's Mag L-Threonate and NOW Mag Glys. Take them both at night before bed, flip flop different nights. Threonate I feel a bit more groggy in the morning. I do dream on both, and at first I loved it. But if ya asked me after a month I'd probably lean towards Glys. I for some reason wake up middle of the night more on Threonate compared to the other as well. I have yet to try Magnesium Taurate, which I will probably buy here when I run out of these two.

Magnesium (Glycerinate) is one of my favorite supplements. I take it before bed and it reduces how much sleep I need by 1-2 hours. I suspect it helps with my memory too - by providing the energy needed to recall information (even though there doesn’t seem to be a lot of emphasis that it helps with memory).

I took it too, a low dose before bed. I began to feel like my brain never really shut off. I would have such vivid dreams as if I was always alert in the dreams. Since I felt like I never truly rested, I didn't buy more. It was interesting to have such vivid dreams but I kind of really need sleep as everyone does, so I just stopped. I guess that's my own mistake since I took it before bed not in the morning.

It's not a stimulant so it's either unconnected or a "symptom" of better function. Could consider trying it again when you have a period to adjust to the benefit. Restlessness isn't good, but vivid dreams prove deep and healthy rem sleep.

The problem with this type of testing is that ... the result is subjective. Unless there is an objective measure, it is difficult to distinguish real improvements from what is imagined. This is especially strue of things like memory, creativity, etc.
For example, when I take a supplement that is supposed to improve my lifting strength, I test the supplement against my actual lifting strength - i keep track of the number of reps per exercise. This is an objective measure. I don't simply conclude, "I feel stronger" and assume that the supplement works.

  • @19AKS58

  • @jean-brunotremblay3361

Don't l threonate raise progressively magnesium in the brain? With higher result after two months of use, and even more after three? It's not like a phenylethylamine that would boost quick and disappear. It do not participate in the neurotransmitter production, but helps the synaptic function (or prevent its dysfunction). Supposed to be the only magnesium that reach the brain. Might be more important to take it that as we age than while we are young and beautiful like Dr Legrand, his head is still filled with pure magnesium! :)

But with 4-5 hours of sleep i took it in the morning and it was a gamechanger. It was like a stimulant. My head was clear i was in the moment but in the evening i had like a sort of crash.

Taking it over a period of time is meant to help balance your levels which is more sustainable rather than taking a large dose and then those levels falling which they will. It's supposed to be a constant level to keep you regulated over a long time rather than one large spike that wont last which is why they say you have to take the supplements for a while to see actual change bc theyre going for longevity

Just finished my first week of this stuff with interesting results. I’ve taken a ton of stuff over the years, but never anything that had such an immediate and profound impact. I started out with half a capsule of this stuff and within minutes I felt like I had finished a pot of Italian espresso. I skipped a day, just to verify the symptoms. However, the half-life of this stuff hangs in there, and it did make me feel more alert, but almost to a fault. I actually welcomed the intestinal affects although the hyperactivity is a bit much. I’m up to one capsule a day. I can appreciate the alertness, but I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to stick with it. It’s difficult to sleep when you’re amped up like this. I think I’m gonna step down to half a capsule again because the benefits to me are a mixed bag. 🤷‍♂️

The reason you felt an impact after doubling the dosage was not because of the increase in magnesium but the longer term of supplementing it actually takes 1-2 months to have any effect. The MIT study in 2015 indicated 144mg is the ideal dosage and that larger doses do not result in greater effects despite being less than the RDA - the RDA is a guideline for general magnesium INTAKE without regard to the efficiency of the pathway or cellular uptake of the specific type of magnesium. Please read the science. Although the body is good at excreting excess Mg too much is unhealthy and hypermagnesemia is fatal. At a minimum test your serum magnesium prior to supplementing ESPECIALLY if you are young, healthy and eat healthy. Get clearance from your doctor. Also note that serum magnesium levels are not the same as cellular magnesium which is where the deficiency actually matters. If you are older, have certain conditions which limit bioavailability, or live in the third world this is a great supplement.

I just wanted to point out the Brand of Magnesium L-Threonate the Inventor’s developed is not the Brand you’re taking.
I listened to the Inventor who is a female doctor and head of research at UCLA and her supplement Brand’s Name MAGTEIN.
I realize there are other companies manufacturing this Magnesium supplement but they are not all created equal. I believe if you start taking the supplement the researchers developed you would not need to increase the amount you’re taking on a daily basis. I speak from experience as I’ve been taking the “Magtein” Magnesium L-Threonate supplement according to the instructions on the bottle (2 Capsules per day) for over a month. My sleep has been better than I’d ever hoped for and I actually see improvement with my memory. This in itself is great since I’ve purchased and tried everything on the market with no significant success.
I hope you won’t be offended by my comments.

I think Magnesium and Vitamin D helps with short term memory. Bacopa is effective for memory, but to me it feels like it affects long-term memory more . Lions mane just makes me super curious about everything and I didn’t notice it affecting memory myself.

When people say I noticed a slight improvement in my focus etc etc basically it could be anything causing that. Maybe you slept better the night before. Maybe you have been eating better. Maybe you got laid. Maybe 1000 things or maybe it's just placebo.
