I was thinking, oh, his blade found a nail, or imbeded barb wire. Those can kill a blade quick. We used a small metal detector for questionable spots, and had an extra saw blade in case. Glad yours was a quick fix Chad. Keep it up!🐈⬛
It’s nice to share the mistakes as some people don’t share! I’ve learned it from work places but I always share my mistakes and wanted to make sure the others do it right at the beginning to save time and money.
Great tip Chad, I had a Wasp in my ear muffs one time when the were in the garage. Good thing I did not wear them. I now always check for bugs. Maybe slow the water down some, you can add some dish soap to the water Chad. It helps lube the blade. Keep on Sawing !😁
Good morning Chad and Ms. Olive. I enjoy every visit to the farm via the internet. lol Your saw mill is interesting, however, Ms. Olive steals the show for me. lol Ms. Olive has stolen my heart and can't get enough of her. Every time I look at Ms. Olive I see Molly which is bittersweet but yet filled with wonderful memories. I look so forward to your videos and thank you again for sharing the farm life with all of us. Until Mondy, have a fun weekend.
As you can imagine everything in our life reminds us of Molly, but Olive is always there for us. Even though she is also hurting. She whines a lot more than usual, she’s not super excited about dinner time, she doesn’t wanna go to bed are just some examples. She our rock these days but I think we’re also her rock.
@3:00 Haha the dramatic tension of waiting for the mistake to happen as you're sawing is killing me. I keep expecting some epic disaster as you're sawing. 😅Glad it wound up being a simple fix!
Definitely looking forward to the next wood yard episode! i dont know why they would make the water hose that long if it touching the muffler means the hose will melt, but im glad it was a simple and easy fix! I hope you and Remi have a wonderful day!
Well, of all the "stupid" mistakes you could have made, fortunately this one didn't destroy your engine or something. That was a BEAST to put together and you did an amazing job! Thanks for sharing.
The imperfections in milled lumber are referred to as wane. Boiled linseed oil can be used to seal the end grain on the timbers. You could mount a Mil-Surp ammo can on the mill to store ears, eyes, gloves and various other sundries. They seal with a heavy rubber gasket on the lid to keep moisture and critters out. There are quite a few sizes available.
@@VintageStylebyJo I’ve got 4 months before winter so I’m working on the lumber I’ll need whenever I have time, but I’ll also run out of these old logs so I’ll have to go do some forestry too.
I love those Saturday sawmill videos!! 😃However, as soon as I saw the title of the video I was hoping that it was something that you could fix!! Do you know this knot you get in your stomach when something happens to an expensive object you bought and your whole inside is tightening up? That was what I felt when I read the title lol!! I'm glad you could fix it, but I really do think they should have stated that in the manual... 🤔🤔 Keep up the good work, Chad!! 🤩
A mouse chewed mine so I cut it in half. I found a pump bottle in the house (hand soap bottle I think) cut the tube off the lid. Used it as a connector inside the 2 cut half. It fit perfect and it stayed together.
All the wood you cut is actually quite valuable. Especially to Luthiers. They only need a few mm (4-6mm) and can create the most magical instruments. One is #DaisyTempest .... she makes fantastic guitars.
OMG 😱 I absolutely fear earwigs. I flicked one off from just under my ear on my neck once. Our backyard pear tree attracted them and we were tenting in the back yard. They are gross. That aside, Olive is such a sweet peach sticking with you. I really like this sawmill stuff! Thank goodness it was an easy fix that you shared with us!
@@HiddenSpringFarm I am sure that you are right. Its a blessing you have all those trees that you can mill, take your time and get it right! I'm glad to be able to follow that process!
Eric & Ariel from Simple Living Alaska? They do have a big quonset hut, but it's for their workshop. They did use their sawmill to make a covered building for the sawmill though.
@@ZippedUpKitz yes I’ve been doing that since n the goose run and turkey run. I’m learning quickly though that it’s no good for any wet area like the water fowl cause it just turns mucky. Turkeys and chickens will be a good addition though.
@@HiddenSpringFarm yep… which is why I didn’t advice to use it in The ducky bunky :) that would be a complete mess! Well, maybe not as bad now since you built that magnificent duck pond…. But back when you kept all those little pools in There…. yikes! That wouldn’t have been a good idea to put saw dust in there… you are most correct when saying it would’ve turned into a mucky mess! It would have made it the Mucky Ducky Bunky!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@ZippedUpKitz I tried it in the goose booth beside the turkeys and they have a water bin but now it’s just blended in with the muck, lesson learned. I could probably use it as cat litter too eh.
Glad that earwig didn’t get a chance to earn its reputation with your ear! Eew😛. Love to watch that saw work so smoothly. Catching the little things before they become bigger problems is the trick in working with machinery isn’t it?
Most manuals are so ridiculously detailed in safety tips you roll your eyes when reading them. It seems this was an oversight with the manual writer not to warn about it this possibility. The muffler alone would generate enough heat to make the tube sag. Maybe they could have designed that section a little differently?

what do you do with the wood shavings?
