I think diesel engines for this use are not the issue with fossil fuel usage in the world today and nor will they ever be. We all know where the real issue with fossil fuels are. I'm sure he mentioned some veg oil getting used though....either way I think the engine is a fine choice :)
And now he might get a decent supply of lumber in return for the services of his sawmill. Not to mention some of the useful junk that farmers tend to have in plentiful supply.
@@naiknieh This, my neighbour has a 60x40 shed with approximately 10-15 conical piles 10ft high of random metal parts, boat parts, tractor parks, Alaskan mill parts, chainsaw parts, honestly any time I encounter a 40-50 year old piece of machinery with a broken part that no one makes anymore I go there and usually find it, covered in rust of course, but enough to be able to rebuild the part and have it work properly again. He's an older man, raised poor during the depression, doesn't throw a damn thing away.
I'm not much of a 'handyman' type, but I find all your videos immensely engrossing and I also find your personal manner very calming and relaxing. I'm especially looking forward to seeing that handsome greenhouse finished, but there's always something interesting whatever it is. Thank you very much for all your effort in making your life accessible to us.
I could have spent four grand , worked flat out for six months , not slept for a year and worried till I died and still wouldn’t have anything that resembled a saw mill , let alone anything that actually cut wood ...brilliant ..

Taking the wind noise out is the best move you've made for ages. I don't know if it's being responsible for the land but each time I watch a video, you look more and more like a farmer.

Kris, I'd recommend you install some hard wire brushes infront of the carriage wheels, to keep the rails from becomingbuilt up with tree resins and sawdust. We have a sawmill similar to yours, here in Wales, and we predominantly mill pine from our plantation. The metal brushes prevent the running gear from being clogged. They are also installed at ther back of the runners, to scrape the rails clean again, when you run the machine back to its starting position. This tip will save you a lot of time cleaning rails and wheels. .

I watched the whole build series for your mill, and am so impressed with your skills and cool ability to deal with problems that arise. Well done! I should also thank you: I am subscribed to 439 YT channels (excessive?), but you remain one of the handful of people I return to regularly for the inspiration to do some of the things I'm dreaming about. My dream has some differences from yours (and I'm older, and have less time to get it all done), but is very similar in some ways. I had stopped watching you for a while--got distracted by other things. It's nice to come back after a time to see that the things you've dreamed about are actually working. You're showing the world that these things are possible, and you're truly making a difference. P.S. I think the mill needs a cool paint job--like a shark's mouth over the blade, big flames, or something equally tacky? ;)

Yes timber is very expensive, even buying by the ton as logs is really high at the moment. £70-100 a ton. But that is still cheap for me if i can mill it myself as a ton is a lot of wood.
@@KrisHarbour I do have a milling video on my Channel building an outhouse for my cabin don't get into great detail as there's alot out there and I find that it gets long and boring for some ppl after awhile lol...

Yeah i have seen those done on other mills. i think a bit of steel cable works quite well. Yep, another job to add to the list.
