We're transforming this 90 acre property into a self reliant homestead and farm stay vacation rental. We're building infrastructure to accomodate future growth such as barns, duck house, 7 coop chicken house, water hydrants, planting an orchard, building a garden etc. Chickens, ducks, geese, mini pigs, rabbits, a bunch of barn cats and two old english sheepdogs make up our team here at the farm. Please follow along on our journey of transforming this place into something special.
Is good to see how little by little, working hard of course, you are getting your life better, making things to improve and get money from the new things. I hope you good luck with all the things you are making, and a long live for olive and the cats.
So true! But it’s not easy to prioritize sometimes when I have such a long list of dreams for this place. Step by step.
I'm very impressed with your capabilities Sir!!! I'm only guessing here but using all those equipment to build your ideas must be crazy fun!!! You should be very proud of the progress that you made into reality at your incredible farm with incredible animals, veggies, and fruit!!! The fact that you both came from the city and are now living a life like this is so very inspirational!!! I for one definitely appreciate that you are kind enough to share it with all of us. Watching your videos truly does help with my mental health, giving me all the feel good, positive vibes that's necessary to have, especially with the current state of our society.
Very fun and rewarding. I’m finding I really enjoy learning new skills.
I just love programmes/films where the farmer goes into the woods and retrieves dead trees and puts them to good use. If that isn’t saving the polar bears then I don’t know what is. All the best from England.
@@TheGrimReaper1 Right on! 🤙
So much free wood! You also have a good neighbor to help you with it too! 👍🏼
@@RJH_LIL YES!!! 👏
Another great episode…love watching your videos friend! 😊
Thanks for the visit
This is going to look so good! You are coming along really well! Thank you for sharing this journey!

So awesome how you are showing it can be done by 1 person.
I love going solo too, I feel accomplished 😉
To me, this was an extremely satisfying episode to watch. I love how you do things one step at a time and how it all comes together for another great build! Give Super Olive a great big hug from me please 😘

Its interesting to see how much work goes into creating the beams/boards for this project. Nicely done!
That’s a nail biter ending. I gotta say that you are some kind of genius. Man, all the things you can do so well and with a great vibe, it’s pretty awesome.
@@EndOfEraOrEndOfWorld glad you’re enjoying things. Next sawmill shack episode I attempt to mill that 24’ log.

Awesome thanks. This stuff keeps your brain sharp 😆
We're really enjoying watching this process. I never thought I'd much care for something along these lines but there really is something to be said for watching something being created from the ground up. We love it and it's honestly so relaxing!
That’s so cool 😎
Another great vid Chad, very enjoyable !
Awesome!!!
WOW!!! Amazing
Glad you like it!
Your shorts look like mailman shorts!! Great video!

Cuts like butta 😂 you just amaze me at how you can get those beams up.
Oh no, Chad! You left us hanging! I hope you were able to get that beast on your mill. I'm so happy you found the right tree for your beams!! 🤗☺
Haha I know, the video would have been over an hour long. But yes, I did it…barely 😉 😉
@@HiddenSpringFarm Oh good! This sounds interesting...
Such great progress! Love all of your content! Keep up the great work!
Can’t wait for the next episode. The little dolly that could😅! Love the dramatic but peppy and triumphant music too. Your first 2 and 1/2 ton log💪🏻. Very cool video👍 for all of us who have tackled new ventures and wondered how it would go🤗

Amazing how your tractor handled that huge log.
@@kathrinekerns8398 yeah the 3 point hitch on the rear can lift a lot of weight, the front loader arms not so much 😂

Thank you so much! ☺️
Came for the music. Stayed for the hard work.

I can't hardly wait to see the GIANT BEAM🤗
Likely a dum question but what happens when the beam dries out?
It’s a legit concern. With a beam that big the shrinkage is almost insignificant. It will shrink though and if it ends up lifting itself off the posts I’ll just unscrew the T branches, lower it and re-screw.
BOY CHAD - You are really testing your equipment to see just what it can do and that's great AND you are being cautious doing it which is super important - Great Job!! Looking forward to when you mill that 25 foot log.....probably have to cut the log, but will wait & see how you handle this ! Stay safe........God bless.........😊❤😊
Thank you, I will
Thx
Hey, I liked that little salamander. I'm like you I love all creatures and never want to kill or hurt even a fly if don't have to
And we don’t see a lot of these around either
Can you imagine how are ancestors built things without John Deere 🎉🎉🎉
@@HELENGodLoves I think about that all the time.
You should leave your healthy sugar maples standing.
You can tap them in early spring and make maple
Syrup for yourself and to sell.
@@ianlovi1 yes exactly, a future project will be to build a sugar shack in our forest for that purpose. Our forest is full of sugar maples so it’s gonna be a great experience. This particular maple still has lots of life left but was on a downward trend to rotting.
Have you seen at the end of a rain gutter a flexible tube? I wonder if you could "Micky Mouse" one to catch your shavings🤔
How many rings were on that tree Chad? Also, I really liked the music you chose for the testing drive with the new tongs. It was very "mystery - what's gonna happen next" music. Not lost on us friend. The little wheels at the back of the log were way too cute not to notice. We'll done!😎
Aww how nice you notice those things, sometimes it actually takes a while to find the right song. Music is not easy cause it’s gotta be non-copyright. Most times I feel I get it right but occasionally wrong too 😉
I'll come to Canada from California to cut and help with the firewood biz, seriously. I've got nothing keeping me here
@@benjaminwilliams3568 that would be something eh
Doesn’t that woods dry out and shrink some? Just wondering about the beams and your safety.
Beams are difficult to deal with. I had a huge cherry log that I milled into about a 12 x 12 x 9’ that I put in my garage attic to dry. It’s been there about 1.5 years. My wife made mention of a loud bang one night. I found a huge crack had opened up from one end starting at the center and curving to the edge. I had sealed the ends with anchorseal but this log was just too unstable.
@@TheMonkdad I think all large beams or posts will get some checking. I’m getting some checking on my posts and beams too. That’s why contractors use engineered beams nowadays. I’ve noticed that some trees grow a certain way that causes too much pressure in certain spots, those will check for sure.
Just out of curiosity, when you take the top layer of wood (bark), do you use those pieces for anything?
Have a good week ahead of you.
👋🇨🇦
@@donnanorman340 so far I’ve been piling them up but I will be bucking them to 16” for firewood. Anything less than 6” will end up in the wood chipper.
I once jackknife my semi truck 😳 while trying to make a uturn
@@HELENGodLoves oh my!
Cliffhanger 🤐
😬
So this might be a girl question. Is there enough space around your mill? Don't you need to walk around it and how do you get log on it? Doesn't look roomy enough. Sorry if dumb question.
Not dumb at all, it’s hard for you to imagine what comes outta my head. A few more episode and you’ll see the roof go on then you’ll get a better idea.
Have you got any more viewers?..you also need people to WATCH the videos to bring in the spondoolies..it does make a difference😊 i leave them running and go and do something else and come back when they are over..kerching!!
Well it’s a science learning about UA-cam. I’m at 163k subs now after 4 years and I get about 5-7 thousand views on a video. That brings about $100-$150. I do have a bunch of videos that get pushed by UA-cam and have loads of views too. I gain viewers all the time though but I’m always working on developing content and stories that viewers will want to watch every episode. It’s not easy. I need to get to where all the big farm type channels are…40k-70k views per video, cause they are making real money. For now as I’m growing I’ll keep trying to improve and make better content as we build up the farm.
Are you going to do the lifting of that big mahoosive beam on your own? Couldn't you get some help..is the neighbour with the excavator the same neighbour who rents the field from you?He seems a very decent neighbour couldn't you ask for his help? Just like to think of you being safe 🤔😁
@@julieashworth7193 oh yes he is. I’m aware of my limits. And I try to make decisions to not put myself in harms way but at the same time going solo. So far I’m ok, but I would ask if I’m really stuck. This excavator is a big help too.
I wouldn't really call that a big log have cut bigger for firewood myself?????
What make and modle is your saw Mill? My husband is looking for one
Nevermind! Haha thanks for answering my question in your video!
So far I’m loving the mill.
Chad, do you know how many countrys still use the impereal system today?
plaise the majorite of your audience dont give a crap about inchs ...
Yes, 3. BUT you’re right according to my UA-cam analytics over 70% of my viewers are in the US so it makes sense. Truthfully, feet and inches are used in building here in Canada. Houses are sold by square feet, property surveys are done in feet, contractors use feet and inches and tape measures bought here in Canada are feet and inches etc. I can’t explain it that’s just how we do it 😉
@@HiddenSpringFarm You shut the door to many subs if you only consider analytics of you tube but it's your channel if you want it to grow consider at least US/300millions and the all world 8 billions. Dont take my comment as negative because it's not I love your channel and what you and your wife do.
@@diannetell6757 I get what you’re saying but there’s no way I can just switch to meters, centimetres, millimeters etc when I’ve been building using feet and inches for decades now. I guess cause Canada is a baby brother to the US we just follow a lot of what they do.
