    Why do people use CPAP Batteries?
    Power Outages: For individuals relying on CPAP machines, uninterrupted sleep is crucial for their health. CPAP batteries provide a backup power source in case of electricity outages, ensuring that the CPAP machine continues to function throughout the night.
    Traveling and Camping: People who travel or enjoy outdoor activities like camping often use CPAP batteries. These portable power sources allow them to use their CPAP machines in locations where electricity might not be readily available, such as in hotels without accessible power outlets near the bed or in remote camping sites.
    Air Travel: Some people with sleep apnea need to use their CPAP devices during long flights. Since not all airplanes have accessible power outlets, a CPAP battery ensures that they can use their device throughout the flight.
    Emergency Preparedness: For those who live in areas prone to natural disasters or frequent power outages, having a CPAP battery is part of being prepared for emergencies. It ensures that their sleep therapy remains uninterrupted during unforeseen circumstances.
    Comfort and Peace of Mind: Knowing that their CPAP machine will remain operational regardless of power availability provides comfort and peace of mind to users, especially those who heavily rely on their machine for a good night's sleep.
    Mobility and Independence: For people who are frequently on the move, CPAP batteries offer increased mobility and independence, allowing them to maintain their sleep therapy routine without being tethered to a fixed power source.
    CPAP batteries are thus an essential accessory for many individuals using CPAP machines, ensuring consistent treatment and improving the overall quality of life for those with conditions like sleep apnea.

    Good morning from Montrea.! I was looking for a battery for my cpap and found your great video. I did not know what was on the market and was looking on amazon and was hesitant to order. With your exhaustive analysis i know what to order. I think. I am looking into ordering the freedom or the go battery. Great work and thank you again

    We have the Freedom on our Resmed machines and get pretty much right on 4 hours with the Climateline hose and humidifier running. With the hose and humidifier turned off, they run 8-10 hours with no problem. It's nice when the power company has a "planned outage" and we can keep our machines running instead of having to get a hotel for the night.

    Great overview, thanks! Something seems to have happened with the Go-Battery: in the US, it mainly now seems to be available from CPAP gear suppliers at more like $400. Amazon has one seller that seems to be in Canada.

      @@thecpapstore Thank you! That is a good idea. It would give me the freedom to go car camping. Ultimately I do want to buy something for an airplane as well -- I recently had an overnight flight and as you can guess, I slept terribly and got sick. I'd rather not repeat that. (It was literally the only flight time available!)

    I have used the medistrom with my airsense 10 for 5 years. Pass through charging gives me seamless switch over to battery during any night time power interruption. For those occasions when ice storms have left me without power for several days I have a large monster back up battery that keeps me going.

    Just a totally awesome battery investigation - going the extra distance with the Freedom battery to explain its results - and a great video. TYVM!
    Also, to be fair to Zopec, looking at their site, it's clear they come from a more hard-core market - selling to hospitals and ambulance services - which goes pretty far in explaining their lack of effort in terms of "modern" sleek industrial design. And, possibly, hints at higher quality overall since those are high duty cycle applications?

    Battery Guide Breakdown
    Zopec 160 Wh : Pros = high capacity, single night no problem | Cons = Bulky, Airline Approval Required, Price
    .
    Freedom 115 Wh : Pros = high capacity, single night no problem, sleek-ish | Cons = A little larger, fraudulent labeling, AirLine Approval Required, Price
    .
    Medistrom 95 Wh : Pros = sleek, travel friendly, single night on lower pressures | Cons = Few Charging Ports, Price, Single night only (2 nights unlikely), 24v and 12v battery
    .
    Go-Battery 88.8 Wh : Pros = sleek, travel friendly, single night on lower pressures, price, multiple output ports | Cons = Single night only (2 nights unlikely), NO pass through power
    .
    Snuggle 85 Wh : Pros = travel friendly | Cons = Larger size for lowest capacity, single night very unlikely, smelled like burning/melting in later tests, very poor quality
    Video Breakdown
    Design and Quality : 1:05
    Ports and Charging : 3:32
    CPAP Power Delivery : 5:43
    Run Times : 10:09
    Travel Ready : 16:02
    Freedom's Fraud : 17:05
    Value and Price: 19:38
    Final Winner : 21:51
    Winners:
    Go-Battery (if you have low pressure and do not need pass through)
    Medistrom (if you have low pressure and need pass through power)
    Although Freedom made a great battery with seemingly great runtime, we do not want to appoint it as a winner due to the mislabeling issue.

    The 100 watt hours limit was based on limiting the physical size of the batteries much more than any additional fire hazard which is why it is up to the airline. From the FAA "With airline approval, passengers may also carry up to two spare larger lithium ion batteries (101-160 Wh) or lithium metal batteries (2-8 grams). This size covers the larger after-market extended-life laptop computer batteries and some larger batteries used in professional audio/visual equipment. There is a limit of two spare batteries per person for the larger lithium ion batteries described above (101-160 watt hours per battery." So with airline approval, you can bring batteries totaling 320 watt hours. An excess fire hazard is NOT a valid concern. When the rule was made Lithium ion batteries were bulkier and much more susceptible to catching fire when over-charged. For once a "fraud" works in the consumer's favor.

    I am shopping for a battery to use on an upcoming overseas flight so this was super helpful! Question about the Go Battery: Do you need specific cables for specific machines? If I am using (for instance) a DreamStation and am planning on switching to an AirSense10 in the near future, will I need to buy a new cable? Are these available for purchase separately? Can't seem to find them anywhere online. Wondering what the cost would be for a different cable.....

    • @thecpapstore
      @thecpapstore  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi there, yes you will have to purchase different cables. One will come with your machine and you can buy a separate cable later on if required. I know we sell the cables on our website ($30 CAD)
      thecpapstore.ca/collections/batteries?sort_by=manual&filter.p.vendor=CPAPextras.com
      Other than that, not sure where you can find them online, as they are a smaller company.

    My APAP normally has the humidifier setting on. I was thinking about buying a battery pack as a backup power source because I have a lot of power outages where I live.
    Would this even be possible for me because I have the humidifier setting on?

    All of the CPAP specific batteries seem absurdly overpriced for the output. I think most are better with a general battery pack. If it has 12v DC output, combine that with a DC converter to the CPAP. Even if you have to do AC conversion, you're better off with a larger battery price wise.

      Can you recommend any general batteries?

    • @marktanney3347
      @marktanney3347 2 місяці тому

      One thing about many of the CPAP specific batteries is that they say they are universal and work virtually al CPAPs and will charge phones and laptops too. It seems like it could be a problem tracking down all the adapters and cords, etc. Is that wrong?

    • @larrytanton5787
      @larrytanton5787 Місяць тому +1

      Yup but most if not all are lead acid batteries that do not perform as well as lithium batteries and have less charge cycles for life of the batteries but i am still thinking about going that route for computer etc when have a power loss at home and it will power my bipap also. I am tired of having power outages and not be able to get any sleep on my bipap.
