What a lovely, lovely man! Only the Brits are able to make a sitcom with a side-splittingly funny character like "Gloria Beaumont", who is at the same time poignant, touching, stirring and deeply moving.

About 2001, new re releases of the Hammer films were available on VHS and DVD. I started buying them from HMV. I was working for London Underground then at Euston. Melvyn Hayes came up and asked the way to Kings Cross. I said 'are you Mr. Hayes' he said 'yes'. I told him I watched, a few days previous, The Curse of Frankenstein, he said 'oh yes, they're being released'.

+Dee Raz I didn't realise till I saw this interview the guy was actually married. Could have sworn he "batted for the other team" as it were...

+DarkAngel182 It basically came down to him playing a camp character in It Ain't Half Hot Mum. Even I thought in real life he really was, until I read a wikipedia article on him.

Used to love him in "It Aint Half Hot Mum". Always seems like a nice guy in interviews. Christopher Lee on the other hand...

Yeah. He is a true gent and one of the last of the vaudevillian style stage actors. His son, Damian is one of my best friends and lives in my hometown so I have had the pleasure of talking to Melvyn a few times and hearing some great stories about his experiences with other actors/actresses back in the 1960s and 1970s. Thanks for your answer ☺️

This man will always be a legend to me because he’s my dad. He’s the best father that I could have asked for he fostered both me and my brother since 1999 I was three at the time. This man has brought me up to be the person that I am today to me he’s not only a bloody good father he is my best friend and he always will be.
