      That’s very arrogant for you to say! Do you know how many graduates never came out of college married and never got that prestigious job to even get bored of. So many have to work for their parents, travel abroad, new states and find love and just stay in partnership and never found that Job relied on sex and cooking, and family support. Your lucky a company cared cause they don’t have to care about your degree, life, career or happiness you do!!

    This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my UA-cam channel 8 months ago about self development. Now I have 858 subs and > 500 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.

      @@lauriexwang Whoever you are, I don't know you personally but I can say that you're one of the non-judgmental and open-minded people who is not fixated on tangible or external factors in order to learn from someone like me. Just because someone doesn't have a piece of paper as a credential, doesn't mean that person is not entitled to share personal experiences with the hope & intention to inspire others. Keep up with whatever it is that you're doing to improve mankind or improving your life even to a slight degree each day. This is just one part of a bigger puzzle for creating my UA-cam channel about holistic health. I literally could have died back when I was 14 years old due to major depression but here I am right now replying to you, a UA-camr, who's full of fulfillment and dedication to help others to be a better version of themselves. I ain't better than anyone else but my old self. That's all that really makes this UA-cam thing more meaningful and enjoyable. Thanks so much for your support! Wow just discovered your channel through this video and everything you mention spoke to me in so many different levels. I went through college and studied advertising, just to, as you saud... come out on the other end with such outdated information and practically no knowledge at all about how to advertise on social media. 100% agree with you that qualifications are not necessarily required, these days all you really need is social proof and the way you mention as working for family and friends for free for a while was also the way I acquired my actual first experience when just fresh out of college. By the way, new subscriber! Hope to keep learning more from you. Thanks so much 🙌

    • @lauriexwang
      @lauriexwang  5 місяців тому

      Hi Herbert, great question and thanks for asking this! T shaped means that you should have a generalised understanding of all areas in digital marketing but at the same time understand how to go deep on one area that you found more interesting than others. Mine is social media and content creation but that's just how I naturally found my passion in that area over time as I learned the ropes of digital marketing. Hope this helps!

    Great video Laurie, I really appreciate all the advice as someone newly interested in this field. You mentioned joining a marketing firm as a junior agent to get started in the career, and even pointed out that this is how you got your start. I’m sure this is a great strategy, however I felt like the video was missing any advice on how to do this. I would love to know what firms are good for those without much qualification, or where I could find them. I would also have liked to know what advice you have for getting the job and rising in the ranks, especially because you did this yourself. I can’t wait to watch more of your videos!

      All really great ideas and thanks so much for taking the time to share this with me! Noted and will add these to future episodes in this digital marketing career series on the channel! 🙌❤️ As a quick tip, I would say if you can secure an internship in a digital agency where you will get lots of experience with clients early on from various industries, it's a great place to get started. Getting promotions is a whole other topic that I would love to explore because it will involve a lot more detailed knowledge on building a network of champions within the company as well as demonstrating your accomplishments and skills to others in your team. Stay tuned my friend.

    Hi, I spent last night binging your content! So good. You have a new subscriber! Question: Currently, I'm a healthcare content marketing writer and I'm interested in branching out more into digital marketing. Looking at the T-shaped image you had, I realized that I have an interest in data and analytics. Where can I get started learning about marketing data and analytics? Do I need to learn SQL?

      Hey friend, 👋😀 I appreciate you and thank you for letting me know, comments from viewers like you always makes my day. Well done on choosing an interest in an area that you like in digital marketing. These are some great places to get started with:
      1) The KISSmetrics Blog
      2) The Moz Blog's Analytics Section
      3) Google's Analytics Academy (you can also get certification for this one)
      I think SQL would be great to have and especially for you to build a strong foundation in this area.

    How to get the right start would appreciate the guide

    • @lauriexwang

      Great question. It's all about getting practice with real clients or projects as early as possible. Either reach out to warm contacts (such as through family and friends) to get your initial experience off the ground, or work as an intern in an agency/marketing team to get the experience. The agency route is what I started with and you can see more details in this video here: ua-cam.com/video/fFXxIIElmFE/v-deo.html

    Im a 40 year old career changer and want to get into marketing..I am seriously considering an expensive masters program since I have no experience in the marketing field, etc. So you are you saying I should teach myself?

    • @lauriexwang
      @lauriexwang  9 місяців тому +1

      It doesn't hurt to get a masters program if you would like to get a great foundation in marketing. Especially if you are mid-career and would like to show the new employers that you are serious about this. But at the same time, what I would like to share in this journey is that real world experience is just as important as a degree and if you can get that experience as early as possible, and build relationships in the industry by going to events, talking to current marketers, informational interviews, are all going to help you build a career in this area. Hope this helps and wishing you all the success! 🙌

    so you would learn it by getting a job, starting business, focusing on a skills niche, and read all ur e-newsletters. sounds like that how ppl did it 10 years ago

    • @lauriexwang
      @lauriexwang  8 місяців тому

      It's all about taking what worked well and learning from that. I think one of the biggest challenges for people starting today is the ability to get experience as early as possible, but given the power of the internet and ability for someone to learn at exceedingly faster rate than what was available 10 years ago, I think the ability to grow our knowledge and making a success out of it is even more possible than ever before.

      If you would like to get certified, you can use a lot of Google's existing free programs, like Google AdWords, but it's not required to get started. Congrats on choosing a career in digital marketing! I love this area and it's constantly evolving, hence I think any standard university courses won't be able to give you the best latest knowledge in the area. I never studied digital marketing but I learned it all in my career and I think it's one of the best way to learn. I did go to university and studied economics so I think base knowledge like critical thinking and reasoning is helpful in any career. Hope this helps!
