I really love this rich and colourful baritone which soars and loads the space. I believe Mr Lewis' voice can perfectly express the very complex personality of the Phantom. 👌
I’m really mad at how underrated Ben Lewis is. I mean I hardly see anybody talking about him but he is PERFECTION in LND DVD!!! I can’t even remember how many times I watched him singing and held my breathe and tears. Let’s just say he’s the sublimest Phantom and does feel like a musician ghost!!
People keep going on about Kelly not sounding too great because she's ill but I really didn't hear anything that made me think she was ill and a great singer can do that! Ben is absolutely amazing though - I'd love to see him in London!

Unfortunately Anna O'Byrne's voice was too classic for Ramin Karimloo. He couldn't balance her voice in Once Upon Another Time.
They were my cast for Phantom and they were all breath taking 👏🏻
She’s great. But Ben is on my top ten phantom’s (thank you UA-cam for letting me see soooooo many more). He is in the elite (up there with Michael Ramin and Colm)!!!

I prefer Rachel Barrell. Her bored and curious acting is different than the other frightened Christine. She even snatched The Phantom's mask in MOTN. Naughty girl.
TheMsiaddict I love Rachel Barrell, she’s one of the best Christines ever. Funnily enough prior to the 25th anniversary and - vom - Love Never Dies, people usually called her and/or Rebecca Caine the best in the role. Love Gina Beck & Harriet Jones too.

She (Anna) did call him back to help with a cover for her album about five years ago. Rebecca Caine was also on the album and she noted their history with this show.

Ben Lewis is the adolescent Phantom.
Ramin was great in the 25th anniversary no doubt but he wasn't great in LND london cast. I think both actors are great in their own way. But it boils down to personal taste. No apologies necessary.
And Ramin didn't sing in an open arena like this. His voice could be lost.

Yes I got the dvd Love never Dies, altho had seen Phantom with Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggas, their passion and chemistry were amazing, even so Love Never Dies is so good too. I do remember my Mum taking me to see a film (quite old, like me) many years ago. It never loses its appeal, so thanks to You Tube watch and listen to favourite music, which is all of it, Doreen
Ben makes a great Phantom. He has a special, natural look in his eyes that gives him an entranced, half-crazed look that suits the character so well. Loved him in Australia's version of Love Never Dies.
Why do people need to tear down other performers? Sierra & Ramin are great, so are Kelly & Ben. It's fine to like one more than the other but you don't need to say the others are bad.

Yes It’s unfortunate that people can’t love one actor without having to tear down another….. It says something about the time we are living in where people loves to have the right to express themselves but can’t stand being challanged by people with other opinions…. Each and everyone who has played these roles has to undergo extensive training, preparations and rehearsals and that deserves respect….
Exactly, Sierra and Ramin might get the most traction because of the RAH preformance but that rlly just makes other phantoms and christines less appreciated or known :/ so like that sucks

I found Sierra sang a song of a french musical and her fans inmediatly compared her with the original singers and started saying she did way better and that she was better and blabla than the original, they were comparing 40 years old Sierra with a 16 year old singer, gosh! (and in fact the french song was arranged for that girl and also did Christine voice in France). In which world a teenager is more prepared than an adult?
I love Ramin and Sierra, but oh my god their fans are awful, also tried to enjoy my fav phantoms and Ramin fans appear just to say that Ramin is better and they are never be like him

Ben has richer voice than Ramin. He has dark voice and beside serious role like this, he was funny in Forbidden Broadway too.
@@TheMsiaddict Ramin's voice has a greater timbre and richness, he has a layered voice of tenor and baritone. Ben is brilliant as Phantom and other roles as well but I just don't think he has a voice as good as Ramin's.

I just love Ben Lewis... and the range Kelly Mathieson has is unbelievable, like, all the high notes, but she can also go very deep. I saw the German version in Oberhausen in 2016, but I so badly want to see the original musical in London one time.
Kelly was trained as a true opera singer.

Was trying to figure out why the phantom’s voice sounded so familiar as if I was listening to JOJ or Ramin Karimloo sing and then I just realized that it was Ben Lewis the Phantom from the Australian production of ALW’s Love Never Dies
Fun Fact:
Ben Lewis’ brother, Alexander has played the Phantom in the Australian Tour. Ben obviously went on to play The Phantom in the sequel “Love Never Dies” before finally playing the role in the Brilliant Original musical.

Erik is SOOO beautiful. His character may be of a villain, but I don't agree w/ the fact that ALL villains become that way for fun. Erik did out of hurt & how the cruel world treated him. Yes, he held Christine captive & did wrong by forcing her to love him, but at the end of the day, his true heart's always been beyond gold: Platinum. I luv Erik so much, fictional or not!!!!!
It´s just me looking that way or Ben seems to feel a lot like Michael Crawford in this outfit? Not the singing, but his appearence has something. Maybe the haircut and color of the wig? Or his Body Type in this tuxedo.

The Valentino wig is the same. Crawford's suit was cut closer to the body, with the pant legs and sleeves purposely cut short so that his "miner's boots" and hands/wrists were more exposed. Crawford was also pretty skinny (other than his diaphragm) when he was playing the role, and Ben Lewis is about 4" taller and built more athletically than Crawford. His trousers are not cut nearly as slim as Crawfords, and they even seem to be pleated, while Crawford's were flat fronted.
I think they both use their height to aid their stage presence.
I think Ben has the same allure that Michael did. Yes there is a similarity. I Love both!

Sierra in general is great but IMO she’s actually not particularly well suited to the role of Christine. She even looks too modern IMO. She’s awesome in Disney or Disney-style shows though (watch the clips of her in Into the Woods, that’s more her thing) :)

It was my 🌟🌟birthday on 27 February (2018) and as a family, we'd seen an evening performance of Phantom of the opera, it was fabulous.
Afterwards, we waited by the stage door..... I was looking away....
... looked up and Ben was there!
He came straight over to us first and asked if we'd liked the show, gave us his autograph and allowed us to have some photos with him, luckily ,he didn't seem to mind that I had to put my arm around his waist 😉😊😊
I'm too old for blushing, but let's just say it was very special for me

Btw, we'd seen Les Miserables the night before too, Killian wasn't Valjean that night, the understudy was very good though.

I love Ben Lewis as the phantom especially in the Love Never Dies production. I find his voice very enticing and just perfect for the Phantom. His looks are also fit for the role, but his look here seems very different from the one in Love Never Dies. I wonder if it’s the make up or the mask size, but his look as the Phantom in LND was way better.
Angela Nathaniel in LND he does not wear traditional make up. But in this one he has to do his make up in this style and i think this looks great either
He was older, much richer and maybe underwent some plastic surgeries.

Probably because the deformity wasn't as important in LND as it was in POTO. Also worth considering that it was filmed in Australia (not West End), so perhaps not as good a budget, etc.
Because in LND DVD VERSION, they were filming it from very close angle. But in TPOTO people can not watch it from that close and that's why they exaggerate the make up to make it more apparent
Maybe he had some plastic surgeries.

I had an enormous pleasure to witness the performance with Kelly. She is probably the best Christine I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot all around the globe)
They are good. I scroll through the comments to saying they are r not good, but they are not as good as Ramin and Sierra but still a really good choice. Definitely on the better end of Christines and phantoms
