Imagine the shock on their faces that must have come from their b-team winning a race before they did. Not only that, but Toro Rosso even beat them in the constructors by ten points. if Seb didn't win that race then Red Bull would have finished above them.

9:31 The reason why the Renault engine wasn't competitive anymore was because they didn't manage to build a good V6 engine, while Mercedes was already developing its V6 engine in 2011.

    • @MarkoPejic14
      @MarkoPejic14 4 роки тому +23

And also back then F1 wasn't that engine dependent because the engine development was frozen and the engines all had similiar power outputs and even then Red Bull wasn't entirely satisfied with Renault - they were always struggling more than the others at power circuits.
When the hybrids came along and the performance became pretty much 50% engine it's when the deficits of the Renault patnership really came to light.

    • @ivaneurope

They were not the same spec as the Renault team.

The Stewart F1 cars by 99 were legitimately quick. I'd say they had the raw pace to finish 3rd in the constructor's that year, but if I recall they often did short stints and made more pit stops typically. I guess they had a smaller fuel capacity. They always qualified well and were always quick. Rubens was very fast in them. People always talk about Rubens being a sham, but he was very fast.

If you dig a little a bit more deeper RedBull actually founded in Thailand in 1967 and the founder name is Chaleo Yoovidya and they actually doesn't start the name as RedBull but it's Kratingdaeng after Mr.Chaleo meet Dietrich Mateshitz in thailand they make a deal to split the company 50/50 i think if i remember, Mr.Chaleo will hold the production and the ingredient i think and Mr.Dietrich will hold the marketing, so when Mr.Dietrich took the brand to europe he rename it to RedBull so that people from europe can recognize the brand more easily and carbonize the drink aswell

I saw the F1 Rewind of Monaco '96 and the Sauber with RB on the livery. And I was thinking about how much it looks like the RB we now know. Totally forgot they were already around back then. So thanks for this, it's like you read my mind haha!

Totally agree with you about Horner, was never 100% sure of him but gave him the benefit of the doubt. But after watching that first series of DTS, I went off him completely, so much so I don’t really like the whole Red Bull team anymore

In preseason 2015, Red Bull ran their car in dazzle camo livery, Christian Horner said that it would feature on the car when it goes racing. However, someone must have missed the memo as the main difference between the 2014 and 2015 race liveries was the words "Red Bull" superimposed on the sides at the front of the tub, radical(!)

Great video, love the fact your'e not afraid to say your own opinions etc.
Just a not for anyone interested, while Tag Heuer might've seemed an odd choice, theyve actually got some history in F1 and specifically F1 engines.
The TAG group sponsored Williams for awhile in the early 80's but in 1983 Ron Dennis and the CEO of the TAG group Mansour Ojjeh (son of the founder Akram Ojjeh) met and agreed a sponsorship deal and part ownership of the team. In 1984 Porsche had an engine deal with McLaren, but without the funds to take the engine from the drawing board into production, Ron Dennis asked Mansour if he would bankroll the project, which he agreed to only on the basis that the engine use the TAG branding. The Engine was a massive success, largely thanks to Niki Lauda's feedback and tuning advice, and won with Mclaren the 1984,85 and 86 drivers championshps and 1984 and 85 constructors championships.
TAG bought watchmaker Heuer in 1985, briefly meaning the new company TAG Heuer were (kinda) involved with F1. Mclaren moved to Honda power after a somewhat disappointing 1987 season, moving to the dominant Honda power the Williams had been using for the past year or two; of course birthing the MP4/4. Porsche went on to supply engines for the Footwork-Arrows team in the early 90's without the help of TAG, but the engine was heavy, bulky and unreliable. Porsche left the sport in the middle of 1991. TAG sold the TAG Heuer brand in 1999, but the TAG group itself still owns a considerable share of McLaren.
I know this was kinda exhaustive but i just thought it was funny how they picked TAG Heuer of all their sponsors to be their "engine supplier"
    keep up the good content!

Another funny thing about the Red Bull, Sauber, Petronas thing is that they used Ferrari engines (Rebadged to Petronas for sponsorship reasons). So all three top teams were represented by sauber at one point.

Fun fact: the energy drink RedBull was directly inspired by the thai energy drink krating daeng which was invented in 1975 I think, which literally translates to red bull. From what I've heard, the original thai version tastes pretty much identical but more concentrated and syrup-y, and with no carbonation.

you missed that RedBull was in MotoGP right before they brought in Horner to start their own F1 team. the RedBull WCM Yamaha crew. title sponsor, but one could see they were more than that.
MotoGP was their teething ground for being involved in international Grand Prix and their springboard to what they have put into place now.
