Got the PX2S earlier this week and have put in two 9-mile runs so far. The PX2S has been the most anticipated running shoe of this year for many (especially for PXS v1 fans like myself!) after all the hype generated by BITR guys after TRE late last year. Then, there was the "leak" launch of the green colorway and a bunch of negative reviews from the early adopters on Reddit. I had the chance to get it myself but I just didn't want green and decided to wait. So, initially before the launch, I had these super high expectations of the PX2S being a lighter, faster, and more propulsive version of v1. Then, there was a big letdown about the increased weight and all the negative reviews about how firm it felt and was a step backwards. So, my expectations were tempered (or greatly reduced) and I came to think that it's not better but a different kind of shoe altogether from v1.
Maybe it's the lowered expectations and, like you say, the novelty of a truly over-the-top running shoes and it's shiny and new but, after the two runs, I have to say that I really, really like this show. It isn't as bouncy, fast, and exciting as the v1 but it retains the DNA of what made the v1 so fun while improving stability (although this was never an issue for me) for easy/slow paces and better fit on the upper. The ride is unique - similar in some ways but also quite different from the v1. The bounce is more controlled and focused that is directed forward - not this wild trampoline kind of upward bounce I get from v1. I can understand why some people just couldn't get on with the v1 - the wild bounce and the narrow heel would become a stability nightmare for many casual runners.
The v2 is definitely more stable although it isn't a 'stability shoe' by any stretch of the definition. With the v1, I was always mindful of using strictly forefoot strikes when turning corners, jumping on and off of sidewalks, running on cambered roads or with lots of potholes and other obstacles, and when running downhill at fast paces. Although stability isn't an issue for me with v1, I still remember to be more careful than when I'm running in other shoes and choose routes that are flat, smooth, and straight-line tarmac as much as possible. With v2, I can run in it like any of my other shoes with "normal" stack height shoes in the "legal" 40mm stack height category. This stability improvement alone makes the v2 a very different feeling shoe along with the added weight.
Now, let's talk about the weight and all the negative talk about it. Yes, it's noticeably heavier than v1 but, for me, isn't as bad as I expected. I weighed my US size 8 and it came in at 9.9oz, virtually identical to my Nimbus 25, More v4, and SC Trainer in the same US size 8 and Invincible Run 2 which is 8.5 half-size up for me and about 0.4oz heavier than PX2S. It's about 1.5oz heavier than v1 for me - noticeable but not as bad as I expected. And I can say with confidence that the PX2S is much bouncier, faster, more propulsive, and a *LOT* more enjoyable than all the aforementioned shoes - not even close.
The PX2S handled my fast paces (6:00~7:30/mile or 3:44~4:40/km) just fine with the sweet spot being in the 7:30~7:45/mile range. I can say that I don't even want to try going faster than 8:00/mile or 5:00/km pace with the aforementioned easy/recovery pace shoes. The thing about the PX2S is that it now feels fine at easy and slow paces of 9:00~10:00/mile or around 5:40~6:13/km while the v1 feels unstable and cumbersome. When I lace up the v1, I'm thinking long runs at moderate-to-fast paces. With the v2, I can think of moderate to occasional fast as well as easy/recovery due to the improved stability at slower paces. With the v1, I can push it to all-out and it can compete with the likes of Vaporfly 2/3 and Adios Pro 3 due to its amazing propulsion. I've run short bursts of under 5:00/mile paces with v1 but I'd be hesitant to try going that fast with v2. So, speed-wise, the v1 wins but, for all-out speed, there are better options.
As for the ride and running experience, the v2 - just like v1 - sort of sits in a category of its own. There is nothing quite like it. I'm not saying it's "better", just that it's very unique and different. Some will love it and some will hate it. That's what makes trying different shoes and experiencing them so fun. Personally, I really like it. I'm now glad that it's different from v1 and it's an improvement in some ways. You just can't have it all in one shoes. Adidas decided to address the stability issue of v1 and that simply meant added weight. I'm light (around 5'6 or 167cm and 125lbs or 57kg) with strong ankles so I'm sure that has something to do with how and why both v1 and v2 feel stable to me. The v2 feels even more stable for slower runs, which I welcome. It's bouncy but also reassuringly firm and is very protective underfoot. My feet and legs felt very fresh after the 9-mile runs and I'm looking forward to taking it on a 15~20 mile run tomorrow at an average pace of around 9:00/mile.
The PX (OG) and PXS were and remain a "controversial" and divisive shoe. The PX2S continues that tradition and, if anything from a business sense, it sure is generating a lot of publicity for Adidas. It's definitely not for everyone. It's expensive and I'd have to say that only a small percentage of everyday runners would benefit from it. It's not a shoe I'd recommend to even experienced runners unless they are interested in such a high-stack shoe. I'm a big fan of Adidas Adizero line of shoes and the LSP midsole foam and really enjoy running in the PXS, Adios Pro 3, Takumi Sen 8, Adios 8, and Boston 12. They just work *for me* better than other shoes from other brands. So, naturally, the PX2S seems to work just fine for me and fills a certain niche that's complementary to the other Adizero shoes. If you are an Adizero fan, then I think it's worth checking out the PX2S and see how it fits in your collection/rotation. If you haven't tried any Adizero shoes, I'd recommend starting out with, say, the Adios Pro 3 or the Boston 12 to get the feel of what the LSP foam is like and what a mega version of it would be like in the PXS and this PX2S.

very well written and good review. i have the v1 and love the feel and was worried about all the negative reviews regarding v2 and was thinking of switching my long run training shoe from the v1 to the vaporfly 3 when i can get it. it is always sold out. i was also thinking of stocking up on v1 since i like the shoe but interestingly, on the adidas website today, the price for v1 is $300, as the same for v2. i was hoping to get a discount on the shoe itself and stock up.

A comparison so many of us have been very curious to hear about!! The first Strung seemed to create some totally divided opinions , people seemed to either love it or hate it!! So it sounds like this one might win more runners over ?? Well … we’ll see!! Me I’m a Boston girl myself ever since the 10, and am soooo happy to just stick with them!! 🥰

i usually wear 10.5 but in the prime X V1 I wear a 10 because of the massive room in the toe box which I love.
When I tried on version 2 in size 10 it was much tighter and even felt more narrow which is odd since the landing platform is actually wider!
Also the shoe is so stiff that if you don't tie down enough it will heel slip just due to the stiffness.
In any case I ordered the 10.5 to see if there is a difference. If not I may have to return these, good thing I bought an extra pair of the V1.
I may take the money and purchase the Asics super last or the Mizuno wave rebellion pro.
But we'll see... I'll write back when I get the new ones Monday.
Btw great video you have a new subscriber. Keep it up!

Great review👍🏻 I have the original prime X (1) I love the bounce and how my legs feel after running. BUT I don’t use them much as they are so unstable and if I don’t know the route and running with friends I worry we might hit some uneven paths or trails. Tempted by the Strung 2 though if they are stable enough to handle more than straight roads! In a rotation they would no doubt be a great addition, just have to justify the price of yet another pair of shoes 😬

I don’t necessarily want to promise that they will be stable for you because I only share my own experiences and I never struggled with the first one to promise that the second delivers more stability. I can only share that it has features that would do so. A wider base, a lesser drop etc. but please please let me know your thoughts if you try them

One of the worse thing to do with the strung material is to sew a super hard plastic to it and create a rough bulge that rubs your feet when you try to tie it down as the lacing gap is too wide ! It practically useless . It not a bad boy , it’s the worse design to copy NB super comp and make it even worse . The shoe is so stiff and heavy . It’s useless . Trying to mimic the air pods using a mash Mellow foam just doesn’t give you any sort of energy return . Yes if your feet can fit into the poor sock strung , you will notice if you run a power meter . It needs more power to get the same pace . It doesn’t have the pop the v1 has and yes it’s more stable too , but if you are looking at a super soft , daily runner . May as well buy the NB v2 trainer which is so much cheaper and lighter and feels the same . This sluggish v2 dung is not even worth buying .. too much hype and poorly executed. I would not recommend this bad shoe .
