Good overview. Just my two cents here - I think it all comes down to maintenance and driver behavior.
    1. Making sure to change the engine oil before the recommended intervals (some might argue this is not necessary, but depends on driving patterns. Preventative is better than regretting after the engine develops issues)
    2. Good fuel - In Aus/NZ we have 98 octane.
    3. Don't do short start and stops frequently.
    4. If buying a second hand or lease, making sure the car has a service history. Rule of thumb (not always), a clean interior that has been taken care of reflects on a clean exterior and engine history. A good owner will take care of their prize possession.
    5. Don't thrash it as soon as you've started the car.
    6. Check your dip stick and see if you have oil dilution. Like most or all direct injection engines, frequent short start and stops will be one of the causes for this. If it is the case, change the engine oil
    7. Hondata or Ktuner? Hard to detect but a good owner won't thrash the life out of the car and run stupid tunes and high psi for their turbo. Again, a good owner will look after their car and not like a napkin.

Very valuable points here. Maintence and driver behavior/tendencies go a long way either for the bad or good. Unfortunately we are limited to 93 here and some states only 91, basically mediocre stuff compared to other nations. People think 87 is fine which well it’ll run sure but it’s less the adequate for a turbo direct injection engine in my opinion. If anyone is going to buy a car off the streets or a small time dealer I would highly recommend having a pre purchase inspection. Well worth the investment in my opinion. Thanks for your thoughts!

@@cptpwnhub2668 An example would be frequent short trips, such as driving the car before it gets up to optimal temp and turning it off. Some drivers do a lot of short trips - engine on , drive 5 mins and engine off.

I have the 2021 Honda CR-V AWD and no issues so far. The maintenance always on time and keeping it clean inside/out every week. Plus, my commute of 25 minutes each way M-F. The CR-V AWD is one of the best choices living in the Northern states or any Country that gets a lot of snow/rain. Honestly, I love my vehicle.

2021 with just under 60k on it. 1.5 Turbo EX AWD. Really no mechanical issues, oil is changed 5,000 miles. Just need to do the oil, coolant (1st 60k, then every 30k after), brake fluid (2 years or 30k, might hold off because it will need brakes eventually), transmission fluid (60k, then every 30k after) and front and rear diff fluid (every 30k).
I’ve only had to really do tires, wiper blades, and headlight bulbs. A windshield too because a rock hit it badly on the top right last year. And key batteries twice.
The only issue I notice is that when it’s cold out, the right rear door whines when it locks sort of like a balloon slowly deflating. And under light acceleration in the cold, I hear a whistle noise.
Other than that, this is the first vehicle I’ve owned where I got 60,000 miles on it and still have the stock brake pads on it (30% all around).
Has anyone had an issue with the TPMS system? It will not warn of a low tire until you drive 5 miles with it low. I purposely lowered a tire to 25 psi with all the others at 35 psi, 5 miles later warning light was on. However, you put the spare donut tire on, light comes on almost instantaneously.
When the car was new, I was getting about 375-450 miles to a tank. Now I’m barely getting 300 miles to a tank. I still think 28 mpg for a suv is impressive though. Maybe that’s something expected for a car that’s getting older, but it’s not like I’m flooring it or idling a lot.
Exterior wise, I’m disappointed with the white paint. It looks like it’s losing its color by the right headlight. My body shop told me the paint is very expensive and hard to match, and to just go with gloss white when it comes time to paint the car).
Interior wise, the drivers seat is wrinkling by the airbag tag. Didn’t think black cloth would wear out that fast on a 3.5 year old car with 60k on it.
Other than that, it’s served me well in snow storms, rain, going to work, and has never left me stranded. And the maintenance is pretty expected, nothing more.

    I have a 2017 that I bought new. 1.5 EX-L.
    It’s at 189,000 miles.
Only in the last month it misfired and putted on an acceleration from a complete stop. I was looking to go ahead and change the spark plugs and hope that’s what it is.
After about 160,000 miles it seemed to idle kind of rough on a cold starts. Of course, I would always let it warm up some before taking off when it was doing that.
Other than that, no problems besides the control center/radio/display trying to turn its brightness up and down. Turning it off, then turning it back on would fix it.
Of course, that was nothing to ever make me feel like it would get stranded somewhere.
It’s still a very on point, accurate car to drive.

Ive had none of these issues and my 2019 CRV 1.5 manual AWD is on 139,000kms 96,000 miles, could because mine is a Euro spec CRV made in Japan, I believe from the forums they are better build all round, only issue which has been an issue on every Honda I have owned is corrosion on the suspension components and the overly soft paintwork which scratches and chip easily, I would happily buy another its been a very good car and has taken a fair amount of abuse with our Northern Euro winters.

Honda issued an extended warranty on the air conditioning compressor. The wiring covering is made out of soy materials which tends to attract rats/mice. Get yourself some pure peppermint oil then mix up a spray bottle with 50/50 peppermint oil and water then add a drop of liquid dishwasher soap. Spray in the engine compartment every quarter to eliminate that problem. Our 2017 1.5 turbo CR-V has been an excellent car. My wife and I love it.

I have a 2017 with the 1.5turbo engine currently am at 94k miles only issue I had was my ac compressor went out about 1 yr ago I remember it was 1400 to fix it. other then that it has never left me stuck. My only complaint now is, I am hearing random rattling noise coming from inside of the interior somewhere and this just started happening a couple months ago I never used to hear a single sound in the interior, its usually very quiet even on at high highway speeds. I’m guessing something in my dashboard or somewhere is just loose. I’m gonna have to bring it to a mechanic eventually. But it comes and goes, and lately it hasn’t made any raddle noise, but I know it will do it again one day. I really can’t complain though. I never even had to change the brakes before and I’m at 94,000 miles. I change the oil myself and I make sure I have the dealer change the transmission oil after every 30k miles. I honestly can’t ever see these cars giving any kind of major issues tho. I drive mine very hard too. Like I mean I go full throttle to pass cars in it a lot! Our 2020 has battery draining issues. If it sits for a few days dead, sometimes 3 days sometimes 10 days. Yesterday it died after a 20 mile drive. Completely dead, couldn't lock doors or roll up window. Wrecker to Dealer which charged the battery and check out system to (of course) find nothing wrong, battery good, all systems go. This is horribly unreliable and will get sold. My GF bought this car without my input. Direct injection without port injection to keep intake valves clean, no, no. CVT transmission, no no. Nanny features will drive you nuts! I would have advised Mazda cx5.

The 1.5L turbocharged engine, higher pressure ratios make octane much more critical to performance & reliability. I’m a mechanical engineer and find it very odd that my new 2019 CR-V (and many manufacturers introducing turbocharged engines in their ‘economy’ vehicles now) who recommends just regular gas, and not even suggestion of 91 or 93. I don’t trust this because it seems dictated by marketing (that cheap cars=cheap gas) rather than engineering. (you wouldn’t dare give my 2009 Subaru Forester XT w/ a 2.5L turbo anything other than ‘Premium’!) Now seeing that Hondamobilemechanic has same view, I believe him, and I’ll sticking w/ my gut too (which is years of thermo and work in oil refineries btw) and so will be feeding my CR-V Premium from now on.
