The last time Pat came out to our studio, he taught a lesson on grooving responsibly and filling creatively. This time around he discussed “Exercises For Great Hands And Fills”!
Pat Petrillo is a regular Drumeo satellite instructor who joined our roster this past January and quickly became a student favourite. He is known for his deep sense of groove, uncanny technical ability, and versatility to cover any musical situation - as evidenced by his performances with Patti LaBelle, Gloria Gaynor, Constantine Maroulis, and Debbie Gibson.

Pat Petrillo is a musician, a musical drummer. This is really what drumming is all about.

Pat is such a great teacher. His material, practical. His delivery, so clear. I wish his "Hands, Grooves and Fills" package had been taped like this, with the hands part on a snare drum instead of an inaudible pad. Drumeo got it much better.
First impact of Pat: confident, intelligent, the read deal...then, why is he not more well known? He is an excellent speaker/educator...so many good players do not communicate well, Pat speaks like a motivational speaker with skills!

This drumset sounds freaking amazing.
Love Pat. One of my first rudiment VHS tapes was one of Pat's. Back when DVD's hadn't come on the scene yet. Pat demonstrated the 6 stroke roll on that tape which I had never seen or heard of before. It blew me away. Took me a long time to learn. I would stop the tape, back it up and play it over and over while watching Pat's hands. I finally got it down pretty good.

I've not watched all Drumeo Vids but this one is up to now the best lesson which goes beyond entertainment by watching pro drummers. These are some groovin' exercises which You can directly relate to musical situations.

Watching the intro, it's unbelievable how smooth this guy is!
After all these years of practicing, I think the one piece of the puzzle I've been missing is contained in the one exercise that I basically skipped over in "Hands, Grooves and Fills" - The "5, 5, 3". (12:23) I think that simple exercise may be the key to blazing, effortless hands. Nice job +Pat Petrillo!

I will never forget hearing this man play. He was in a practice room at a drum school in NYC. I could hear him but I couldn't see him. I could have sworn it was Dennis Chambers, in fact I would have bet money that's who was in that room..
Then out walks Mr. Petrillo, unassuming and totally humble..... That guy is a BEAST.

Whoa, hold it right there, man I wish I could have had those ( PDD, PD, PPDD, PDPD,) written in a drummers notebook. And if they were, I certainly didn't see them. Now I know why they said, " play what you say " back in the day when I first started playing! PDD,PD,PD ,PD,DDPPD, I finally got it. And yes, I'm not a reader of sheet music but this makes it easier for me to understand what is going on. Thanks you much for the information.

Wow funky drummer you never know fountain jerk from the 50s can't judge the book from the cover love this cat clean as Listerine this video taught me a lot mainly space timing dynamics and straight face your a bad dude you know I was just clownen great video a lot of styles in it but you yourself comes out shinning great touch voice love you God bless we met once but I think you though I was trying to Rob you well I have no more dreads after 30 years I had them when they weren't popular anyway great stuff great pad I have one just wish I could play like you blessed man you always was funny you play with true laughter yet seriously
