Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 бер 2019
- Triplets aren’t just for jazz, blues and shuffles. In this video, Brian Tichy - who has played with some of the world’s biggest rock bands - talks about spicing up your rock drumming with triplets.
The most important things to remember are keeping quarter notes going on the hi-hat. It’ll keep you balanced, help with your independence, and improve groove and confidence.

Thank you for this
Ty man!
Symbols crispy. Toms tribal. Bass open and booming. Snare cracking. Hi-Hat chopping. Magnificent tuning on this kit!
yup - you nailed it.... and the perfect rock set up!
agree - it is so rock solid. the whole kit sounds magnificent! crispy and powerful :)
Paiste cymbals are second to none.
Yes - Bonzo's setup.
Ludwig Vistalite sounds fucking good!
Brian is just hands down an all around amazing drummer.
He sure is. He make anything so amazing
What a sick solo in the beginning!
Good Times, Bad Times and Bonzo’s Montreux
True!
What's about the one at the very end!
That beat has made my day
Brian Tichy is one of the best rock drummers around, amazing!
can't believe name's actually Tichy wtf
@@iakusz Says a guy named Nowak... smfh
@@TwitterAR3 Dude I'm surprised bc Tichy is a character from one of the best sci-fi book series out there, and I always thought the name was fake. My surname, on the other hand, is the most common surname in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Slovenia, and the sixth most common in Croatia, so get your facts straight
@@iakusz his grand parents came from Slovakia, Bratislava. Tichy means quiet / silent in Slovak and Czech language
@@maco76maco love it thank you
Brian is a technical drummer. His skills is simply amazing and the sound of the drums is perfect.
Brilliant rock drummer. And how fucking good does that set sound?
His set sounds about as close to John Bonham's as I've ever heard. He also teaches really well.
Sounds good but it's ugly.
Real fucking good.
@@tommytruth7595 UGLY???? Just how is that?
@@forthefunofit5487 It looks like it came from Walmart's "my first drum set" kit but sounds like it came from heaven.
His snare sounds exactly what a perfect snare should sound like. Not to mention his entire kit sounds incredible. 🥁
Exactly!
Brian is the best rock drummer on the scene today. I'm not talking progressive or jazzy, I'm talking rock. He's taken from Bonham, Appice and many other influences and has made it his own. If I were to start a rock band and had my choice of anyone out there today, he'd be my drummer hands down.
Can't imagine that snare drum sounding any better. Just wow.
Well here, let me help you. Imagine it just like it is.... now, imagine it slightly better. There you go! You're welcome...
@@danroberts9050, Hey, you're right. I imagined hearing it with a couple of cold beers, and yup, it actually sounded better. Who knew.
I couldn't agree more! That snare is money!
@@FAKusch I'm here to serve my brother.
@@mcwalton6721 I think if you put some effort in, you can agree a little more. Perhaps around 15% more. Give it a try and check back with us.
That left foot making the HiHat sounding like played with a stick is most amazing. Damn.
I MAY be wrong, but I think that's a Steve Gadd trick.
One of the best rock drummers out there. Ive seen him play for a few bands and he plays every show like it could be his last. 100% conviction and passion with a respect to the greats with the groove and swing that the legends were known for.
Brian and I used to draw drum sets on paper in 5th grade at Intervale elementary. Go Brian! Still remember your blue kit.
Pete Ozols really, wow? Do you remember any of his early bands?
Nice🙂
This is still one of my favorite lessons Drumeo has ever posted!!! There’s plenty of guys out there that mimics Bonham sound, set ups and even his signature licks but nobody, and I mean nobody, captures Bonham’s feel the way Brian does!!!
The closest thing to john bonham on drumeo
Check out Bonzology w George and Terry. George nails it even more.
Now it's time for an Ilan Rubin video on Drumeo!
Sully Sullster damn it. You beat me to it!!!! Lol. Tichy is really incredible though. He’s another great Bonham instructor.
Bill Perri are you kidding me?!!!! Portnoy? 😂 Portnoy failed miserably when I watch his jhb tribute. Terry Keating is a master teacher in all things Bonham as he explains the details in terms anyone can grasp. George Fludas is the grand master, period. I just love how UA-cam gives us all these great videos on drumming.
Was just gonna say... This guy is Bonzo mulitplied.
I come back and watch this entire video every few months. Brian is a beast!!!
I met Brian in Buenos Aires. Down to earth, super cool cat. He even played a song with our band. Great guy!
This level of musicianship is INCREDIBLE! Brian is a master. 👏🏼👏🏼
This guys likes John Bonham a little.
A copy can never be better than the original. Yeah, this guy is awesome, but he's doing things that Bonham made popular
Yeah but he's probably the "best" of those who do those things these days
I disagree. Pull up Bonzology's channel sometime. Dude is damn near a clone of Bonham's style. Groovedrummin' as well.
who doesn't ??
brian96597 don’t forget terry bonzoleam he’s the og
Extreme well mannered coach for drummers
Great teacher, very intuitive and simplistic in his teaching!
Maybe the best Bonham style I’ve heard. And his approach to learning it is great. Development of the left foot is something I don’t see enough of , even with a lot of pros.
I'm surprised NO ONE has mentioned his playing on Zakk Wylde's "Pride And Glory" album! Two songs on there that are MASTER CLASSES in rock drumming: "A Horse Called War", & "Toe n' The Line". The 1st, is a chops-groove fest, & the 2nd, is just a straight up SLAMMIN'! Dude lays it down like NOBODY'S business!
Tee Oh pf
@@ccdrums1290???
I got into him with a pride & glory record.yeah, that record is a masterclass in rock drumming.and he plays very simple lines too on the quieter songs,!which shows how good his drumming is
Never heard of Brian before, but it's obvious he's a monster. Good lessons!
That's how all rock drums should sound!
The dude's groove is somehow similar to bonham and porcaro. Very organic and fluid.
yup, i got the Porcaro vibes from his playing.
Goddamn that KICK sound!!!! Kit sounds epic and Tichy killed it!
no bury kick, nice and open
@@ultrakool Something to be said for that these days. Too much thud and not enough boom out there.
His playing is so refreshing to hear. Chops, versatile and groovy patterns and mixed perfectly! Yaaay!😄
Back for my daily listen. That left foot hi-hat groove!
I’ve never heard a cowbell sound so good in my life
Brian freakin SMOKES!
I predict this video will be responsible for a spike in Ludwig and Paiste sales!
The Bonham Kit
That spiked for me in 78. Ludwig SS, 2002....still have it and play them. They sound amazing.
Wow! I'm 61 now and took drum lessons when I was 17. Did a little playing around back in the day...but never go to the level I would have liked.
Brian here is a master. I would love to get a kit again and take lessons with him or follow his online lessons if he has any.
Gotta get the drums first. :)
Have you bought your drum set yet????
@@benoitlambert100 Not yet...still on the fence. Got a lot on the go anyway. Still working on the sax for now. Not sure if I'll ever get into the drums again. Just a pipe dream maybe.
I hope you are able to one day. My humble opinion....you'll always be 17 when you sit at a kit.
@@keithreid4586 Thanks brother.
Brian is freakin great! What a great drummer
The first time i heard Brian was on the Pride And Glory album, he is one of my favorites drummer ever since.
Yeah, that's the only thing I know him from. One of my favorite albums.
"A Horse Called War" showcases everything good about him. But, my favorite is "Toe'n The Line"! Killer riff & groove throughout! ZERO fat on that song!
Like the way you break this down. Makes me wanna get on my drums at 1:30 am
The Kit really sounds fantastic! Congrats to Brian and you guys at Drumeo!
Great pocket in that opening solo! I hafta say, growing up in the 80s, I kinda got over-exposed to Bonham - which is why I thought this was going to annoy me. I ended up watching the whole thing; love the kit, the playing, the lesson, etc. Great job Tichy & Drumeo...
Bonham #1
Good to hear some perfect sounding, real, genuine and musical cymbals, finally.
Looks like Paiste 2002 Big Beat crashes and hats and Sound Formula ride.
That’s first beat is absolute dynamite! Kit sounds mega!!
Is that a paradiddle hand pattern he's doing between the cowbell & snare?
Now that's I call "The Rock Sound"!!!
Brian is one of the best rock drummers ever. And this Ludwig is just fantastic.
Don’t forget those Paiste Big Beats
The end of that tripled based solo just floored me. Ya' gotta love it when a drummer leaves i on all the kit & basically staggers away.
I often question the point of being a knuckle dragging rock drummer. But how do you not love rock-n-roll when it's done at the highest level? Rock on!
wow..............whatever this guy plays sounds sounds so Goooooood. Love his playing. He is one of THE best!
I’ve had the honor to work with Brian a few times for Randy Rhoads Remembered! He’s insane! His vocabulary on the drums is just nuts. One of the best drummers out there! Excited to work with him this Sunday for another Randy Rhoads Remembered Show in Pasadena!!
I studied with Bran for a bit and man, what a teacher, what a HUMBLE PHENOMENAL DRUMMER. I saw him play live many times and he blew me away, always. His tempo, precion, musical taste are HUGE. Besides Brian s also a really good guitar player and this enriches his music knowledge. He understands music, its part, where to play where not to ove play exc.... He is a 360 degrees musician. Back in the days he formed a band where he played guitar and sang,BALL. WHAT A BAND!!!! Kinda grungy/NY core . The drummer and the bass player were insanely good !!!!! Ciao Brian if you read this !!!! U ARE ONE OF THE BEST DRUMMERS OF THE CENTURY. Alex
Meshuggah shirt, then Kiss shirt, vistalite and huge cymbals. whats not to like ?
Kiss sucks hard
@@MaximusWolfe that may be your opinion.. i agree they are far from being my favourite band(meshuggah is more my style) but you can't argue with the fact that Kiss is one of the funnest/cheeziest rock bands of all time. Ah,whatever.. if you dont like Kiss thats entirely up to you, but to make the effort of commenting that they suck is just pointless.. have a great weekend!
lol@@tkmyklebust
@@MaximusWolfeThey may not have been as technically proficient as you'd have liked, but, a band that inspired the drummer we're watching, Dimebag, & countless other musicians who are now legends in their own right, COULDN'T have been as bad as YOU think they are. Not to mention, practically every person on the planet, whether English is their 1st language or not, can at least halfway sing, "Rock N Roll All Nite". Not bad, for a band that "sucks".
@@teeoh9192
The idea that one of their songs becoming well-known is proof of their musical prowess is ludicrous on its face. How many awful musical acts have become famous for crapping out some song that musically inept, lazy people latched onto? I put kiss on the same musical level as the Insane Clown Posse. I'm not saying you have to be instrumentally gifted to play good music. Plenty of punk bands, comprised of less than Prodigy musicians, have put out remarkably great music. No, kiss sucks on a totally objective level and anyone who disagrees has never actually bothered to stroll through there discography without bias.
So good . Brian amazing drummer. J B is smiling. Thank you for the explanations
Love your playing would listen to you all day and nite too.
I love what Mr Tychy is doing for the drumming communauty 👏👏👏🥁🥁🥁🥁🥁🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
One badass hero drummer, my favorite
A Rock Drummer with all of his Heart and Soul.
He’s got a great sound of his own. Silky smooth and powerful like Big Boy UP 4014 with a full head of steam!
What a powerhouse . Triplets are endless . Thank u Mr Tichy 😎✌️🥁
Brian is a total Bonzo nut like myself and so many. I love what he has done with THAT influence since 1994. A great guy too.
I wish they would do a segment on just what they were talking about. Tuning that kit for the room, where they put the microphones, how did he achieve the tones he likes on that kit, top and bottom head intervals....so much interesting stuff that can be covered about the sound of that kit and how he got it to sound that way. It sounds remarkably good. No muffling on anything and no hole in the front head of the kick. That’s what we drummers want to know!
Yeah. Drumeo should think about doing a supplemental video for something like that.Maybe on recordeo where they show behind the scenes on mic'ing a shoot like this. Tuning for the room. What kind of mics and outboard gear used for such a badass sound. Just an idea.
I’d definitely watch a companion video like that!
You forgot the most important:Brian's touch 😉
I'm NOT PLEASED about Brian's drum cover of 'Rebel Yell' being removed from UA-cam today.
Beautiful work being done on this video though - props. Thank you for sharing Brian/Drumeo.
This is exactly what I needed at this stage in my development. Thank you!
One of the best lessons! Thank you Drumeo and Brian Tichy!
I must have seen that opening solo about 30 times..... that sound.... the playing.... 🥹🤤🥹🤤
So fantastic! Thank you SO much!
Gotta love those Bonham licks and sounds! Awesome drumming!
I’ve been practicing the grooves from this video for 2 years now, I just revisited it and now maybe I fully appreciate that intro.
This guy? Brian is one the greatest drummers on the planet ! Whitesnake, ozzy, foreigner, dead daisys..Brian is an amazing drummer one of the top in the world and a great guy ! Sounds and plays more like Bonham than anyone anywhere period ! IMO he is every bit as good and powerful as he was albeit playing his licks etc ...awesome !
Billy Nolan bonzoleom is more closer to bohnam
So clinical yet primal. Love it.
Thank you drumeo, very cool!
Omg ! What a lesson and what a drummer ! Thanks drumeo !
What a drummer - melting the kit
One of the most practicel lessons ever
Tks
Sick, musical playing and the sound of that kit... nice, bro.
love Brian, love the kit, great episode
He is so awesome! So much freedom in movements
This is such a great lesson, I practice with the PDF often and come back to the video a good bit as well. So helpful for real
I appreciate how simply and well he describes everything.
Great sound from the drums and cymbals!! I really enjoyed this lesson!!
This I could listen to in my sleep.

Ur so right. This grooves endlessly. I rewound it to the groove once the lesson starts ten times
@@davemieze9021 same! Just made me want to listen to good times, bad times. just for the intro.

Great lesson then and great today . One of my fav.drummers
Wow - I could watch you play drums all day!
Usually not in the least a fan of drum solos but I could listen to this all day #musicaldrumsolo
Great feel throughout and a great sound too. Love it.
Powerful and sweet at the same time!!!
I LOVE the sound of that drum kit 🤘
brillilant lesson !!!!! love bonham , weckl and gadd ... that was nice to repeat it and hear all those alternatives
Brian is fantastic! Love his playing and teaching style. Definitely have lots of practice to do! Keep’em coming Drumeo!
Totally awesome. Great feel & sound. Mr Bonham is looking down with a smile.
That's pure gold
Great Rock drumming from Tich.
Man I love that bass drum!
Those rolls and fills are gorgeous!!!! I'm here to learn from you!!
This is one of those people that when I listen to (Bing the light goes on) the Bonham cross over triples I was starting with my foot and Brian said start it with your left hand. He was right now the speed is coming way easier. Thanks Brian.
What a cool drummer Brian Tichy !!! This kind of stuff explains many nice tricks you were probably wondering while watching to "Moby Dick" drum solo !!!
Wow! What a great session!!!👍
WHAT A GREAT MASTERR!! Thank you for the inspiration Mr TICHY!!
Yeah man...Tichy---One of my fav's out there today.
This whole idea completely revolutionized my playing.
Such a great lesson, now i have several ideas to develop!
Had me at the first 5 secs.
Wow he is incredible,,,,
Keeping that high hat going is really the key... I gotta work on that. Back to the woodshed! Thanks for the inspiration once again!
One of the greatest and most useful lessons. Great and fun teacher! 🤘🏽☺️
