    Loved all the history, it’s so fascinating how old those buildings are! Crazy. The lavash looked sooo good and difficult to make for sure! I’m not sure I would’ve moved fast enough either 😆

    I went on this same exact tour when I was in Armenia this past June! I was an election observer for the parliamentary elections in the northern part of the Shirak province and got to see some pretty remote villages (like one called Hovtun that was pretty high up). It was absolutely incredible, as well as the tour! The view of Ararat, Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery were unreal.. I did the tour on the last day that I was there (my flight was at 2AM out of Yerevan) but I'm so glad that I got to do it. Cool to experience this tour again through your video!

    When I lived in Yerevan, the cascade was in disrepair and the museum closed. I recognized some of the sculptures at the foot of the cascade. It's nice to see it now. Swan Lake (I never knew it had a name) in town used to be an ice skating rink in winter. I had the pleasure of visiting the temple and the church in your video.
    I lived in an apartment on either Nalbandian St or Abovven St. and I had a clear view of Mt. Ararat from my balcony. It was a short walk to the concert hall where I saw the philharmonic orchestra.
    Mt. Ararat used to be in Armenia until the Treaty of Kars gave it to Turkey in 1921. Apparently Uncle Joe, whose home you visited recently, wanted these territories back at the end of WWII but was opposed by the west. When Stalin died in 1953, the USSR gave up these territorial claims. And, no, I didn't know this; I just read it on Google.

    • @MattandJulia
      @MattandJulia  3 роки тому

      So interesting how much it has changed! Oooh, wonder if it still exists 🤔
      Ah the view must have been incredible 😍
      Did much of the rest of the city, other than the cascade, look the same?
      Funnily enough we have been reading a book called "The Caucasus - An Introduction" and only the other day we were reading about just that 😊

      @@MattandJulia Yerevan looks better. It seems there is more prosperity than 15 years ago. There was never a wine festival like in your video and the shopping was much more limited. It's nice to see that things are improving despite the recent hostilities with Azerbaijan. Enjoy your time there and keep safe.

    Garni used to be a Mithraist temple. Mithraism was the predominant religion in Iran, Armenia and Rome. In Rome by the order of emperor Constantine Rome adopted Christianity. (approx 312AD) . Christianity adopted many aspect of Mithraism such as the cross, trinity, last supper... Armenian king Tirdad ordered the building of the Garni temple.

      @@amirjavad_ca Not everyone has the same the same Opinions . However if that's where your going to , what you see of Armenia today is really nothing compared to their glorious days. The same can be said with Greece Eastern Turkey is Western Armenia and used to have the most powerful kingdom before the 13th century. Their capital Ani( city of 1001 churches , 40 gates) was the most beautiful city in the world now abandoned and in ruins. Their fortifications is among the most advanced structures in the world ,Ani Cathedral and Mren is what had an impact to Gothic and Romanesque structure something you won't hear mentioned a lot in Archeology nor in Architecture and history. That does tell you something.. about the muteness of Armenia.. this is according to an Italian historian Luigi Villari
