Hi Sean, I've just discovered your channel. Groovy! I collect everything Canned Heat. I was 9 and living just outside of Philly in '69 when Woodstock was happening that August. My big brother was 17. He and 6 of his best friends attended that great, historic event and came back better people. Their favorites were Canned Heat, Sly & the Family Stone & Ten Years After. The seven of them were all best friends and all were very close since grade school. You'd never see one without the others. Five of them were soon drafted and sent to Nam: Calvin & Joe both were killed in action in '71 (2 months apart), Mike & Tommy were both severely wounded in battle in '71 &'72 respectively, and both succumbed to their injuries in the late '70's. Dennis was classified "missing-in-action" after his squad was ambushed in '72 (his Mom died in '89, his Dad is still alive, very old & sadly still clinging to "hope" that Dennis' remains will be discovered). Danny & my brother saw it coming so they enlisted. All those guys were so nice to me-- they'd take me to the movies, let me ride around town with them. milk shakes at the Dairy Queen, etc. Now they have all passed on, but I know they are surely hanging with each other again, forever. I can't wait to see those guys.

I was 10 years old in 1969. All of those people in the video and the singers are all in their 80’s now. They aren’t old grandma hippies now. They are conservatives, no more free thinking. Or they are dead , hippies in heaven

I was a 13 year old kid back then in "69", and I think by the end of that summer, I felt like I was a 20 something year old. That happens when you hang with an older crowd.

Woodstock version had no flute
Great tune!!! I have a clip of my last band performing this song live on my channel. Our female singer also plays flute.
In this clip there's a couple of scenes featuring that orange bus, (may be Wavy Gravy driving the kid's tractor and trailers), which I think is Wavy Gravy's and the Merry Prankster's. They have a lot of intersections with a lot of characters, from Charlie Manson and Hell's Angels to Ken Kesey, Neal Cassidy and Jerry Garcia. .

@@hippiereacts1458 The Pranksters weren't a musical group, they were famous for just handing out LSD everywhere they went - especially during their cross country road trip. American author Ken Kesey (One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest) drove the bus. There are some docu films like "The Magic Trip" which has a trailer here on the 'tube. The bus' name was "Further" which is also a Band that today's Dead Heads worship. If I find something that would be fun to react to I'll drop it here for you.
@@hippiereacts1458 I stand corrected there is a band that took the name "merry pranksters" but they have nothing to do with the original counter-culture pranksters that were immortalized in Wolfe's "The Electric Kool Aid Acid Test".

This isn't the Wood stock performance, just a montage of some Hippies at Woodstock. There is a performance video of Canned Heat on stage at Woodstock, but this isn't it.
