- This week's Flute Q&A #46 is how to do an express 5 minute flute practice - one that is highly effective!
The video was inspired by Benny who asked:
"Can you share your daily flute practice routine with me?"
So here you are Benny - an insight into how I practise, plus the express 5 minute practice guide for you!

this is such a helpful 5 minute warm up thank you!
Glad you enjoyed my 5 minute warm up! 😊
This is my 5-minute warmup lately:
- For embouchure & tone: whistle tones, harmonics
- For speed: chromatic sandwich
Then I move on to my usual studies doing chunking practice with Taffanel & Gaubert.
The chromatic sandwich technique you taught and it's helped so much with tone, embouchure consistency and finger speed!
I start really slow to check embouchure, tone and clean transitions between each note. If everything is played correctly - embouchure is relaxed and not tensing up in the mirror, no clunkiness between notes, each note in tune & consistent volume - then I start adding notes and eventually speeding up. I usually pick any note for today and play though each octave, starting a new sandwich when I hit the octave.
That's a great practise routine! Well done! 😀
Hi Jane, I want to improve my fingering speed. Is there Exercises to improve my speed?
Hi Felipe, inside The 45 Day Flute Transformation course I have a module called Fast fingers which discusses these exercises to use to increase finger speed. Here's the link to The Flute Academy in case you're interested. www.flute.school/academy 😀
I would practice one scale, arpegios, intervals.
That's sounds like an awesome practise plan! 😀
Thank you for the advice, Jane! I find myself working on scales too much and avoiding the challenging pieces. I'll adopt this quick warm-up for multiple daily sessions.
You're very welcome Rebecca! Hope this 5 minute warm-up helps! 😊
Who loves the Flute?....WE DO!!!!!......thanks for the tips, Jane!
Aww thank you! Glad to hear you love the flute too!! 😀
overtones, one minor scale in all keys and the arpeggios
Nice! 😊
I bought myself a flute because.... I was charmed by you. Frankly, I don't know what to do with it now bacause I'm helpless with it. =)....does anyone need a flute guys? 🤔 🙂

Your soo consistent and still not getting views I feel very bad for you😔
Caused flute practicing is not trending :p just some fultists look for this kinda content
Thank you for your support! 😊
Hopefully more awesome people like you will share my content with your flute playing friends! 😀
Thank you for this! Also Jane, can you explain how to play gliss notes or glissando? I know that you play every half-step, however I don't know how to play gliss notes. For example glissing second octave D flat. Thank you!
Depending on the music, a glissando can be a chromatic scale which uses half-steps, or sometimes a different scale which may use a combination of half-steps and whole-steps which I call a run of notes. A D flat is the same fingering as a C sharp. Hope this helps! 😀
@@JaneFluteSchool Thank you so much!!
If I could practice anything it would be to go through all the arpeggios in the Circle of 5ths
Awesome practise plan Joshua! 😀
