    Fantastic tips. Very easy to get. I found double tongue harder than triple. I was practicing triple for ages and then one day it just came and I was over the moon. Now to be honest I started on the trumpet at school and learned how to triple. But you know on the flute it is much harder to get it right. From watching you I have improved my tone a great deal. Now I can can play with power and solid resonant tone. And in the lower register.... F E D C etc it sounds rich and I love it. Also my double tongue is improving. Thanks a lot. 😊😊😊

    My "ta" was way in the back and I practiced that way in college. I was so frustrated that my double tounguing was very sluggish. Then during my last semester my teacher told another student to move the tounge as far front as possible and then I had the same breakthrough.

    Brilliant! "If you can SAY it you can PLAY it"...the tongue does it naturally...
    My double tongue is too percussive (like a 2nd hand typewriter) but that's from Clt/Sax where tongue is further back. On Flt I go into the teeth & over do it. Now I've got the idea. Thank you so much for sharing that.

    I split the difference between your placement of tongue for “ta”….and Trevor wye advice that the back stroke “ka” is just reflexive. I was giving too much attention to the “ka” but you can almost totally ignore it (reflex) and focus on the “ta” placement.

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  9 місяців тому +1

      I agree that putting the ta in the correct spot automatically puts the ka in the correct spot.

      Do it backwards and concentrate on it. I garuntee it will come but do it exclusively backwards. Also make sure you don't close the air off with the Ka.

    I am having diifficulty with my Ks in high notes such as third octave C, D and above. Is it more difficult to do double tounging in high notes? Or is it because my Ts are on the wrong spot?

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  Рік тому +1

      Interesting....I'm wondering if you don't have enough pressure behind the tongue, not to say make it explosive just enough support (pressure) so that your tongue can do what it is supposed to do. What do you think?

    • @ebruaktel2211
      @ebruaktel2211 Рік тому +1

      @@DoctorFlute As if my Ks block something. I don't have difficulty in third octave with Ts or slurs so much.

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  Рік тому +2

      Then yes go back to where you are placing your T and K. Also make sure you don't change anything for the K. Keep the air flowing through the T and K. Keep me posted.

    I hope it isn’t too late to comment, but I’ve been trying to learn double tonguing recently. My “da-ga” has been better than my “ta-ka”. I believe it’s for the reason that I can’t get my ka as strong sounding as my ta, and I can’t prevent my embouchure from loosening the higher the notes I play, creating a sloppy noise. This only happens when playing high notes with my ka, not ta. Any suggestions or advice?

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  3 місяці тому

      The question I have is do you think that you have too much air moving with your ga or ka? Try having more pressure from support and don’t use that air. Keep the pressure and see what happens.

    Hello I know i'm sort of late but when i do consecutive double tonguing my air starts to turn almost like a vibration I don't know if its because my double tonguing is fast or I'm doing a mistake and sometimes my tongue also starts to stop and my air sort of goes like somewhere between how you would play legato but with double tongue in the middle of notes

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  6 місяців тому

      Let’s start with the throat. What is your throat doing while you play? It would be my first suggestion that your throat is too tight. Experiment with taking a yawning breath and see if that helps. But make sure the throat stays open. Think about the throat being so open while you play that you could visualize a lemon fitting inside. Keep me posted.

    I seem to have problems "jumping octaves" while double tonguing. Let's say I'm on the middle F - the "ta" comes out OK, but the "ka" tends to jump down the octave. Similar problem jumping up from a low F to the middle F, although it doesn't seem as bad. Recommendations? Thanks

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  3 роки тому

      Hi Richard, interesting problem. I'm wondering if you have too much power on your "ka". Do you feel like you are pushing too much air through? Try beginning with the gentle group of 5 "ta ka ta ka ta". Say it first and then play it on the middle F. Use support but not tons of air. Let me know if anything helps.

    • @richardhimmer4803
      @richardhimmer4803 3 роки тому +2

      @@DoctorFlute I'll try that. Another question. Is the "ka" supposed to be coming from your throat or somewhat higher in the back of your mouth? That is, if I just say "ka", it seems to come from my throat, but the "ka" in "taka" seems to be coming more from the back of my mouth. Am I imagining things?

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  3 роки тому

      The back of the mouth is the place. Where your tongue hits when you say Ka.

    Hi, thank you for this clear explanation. My question is whether it is possible to place my T in the exact right place as I have a permanent brace at the back of my upper front teeth. I feel a bit handicapped ...

    • @DoctorFlute
      @DoctorFlute  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Inge, I'm not sure on that one. I've had students with a brace in that spot and they were never able to have a real clear "ta" but what they got was good enough. You can't change that brace so you need to compromise. Have you tried tonguing right on the brace? I have no idea if you can or not but it's worth a try. I think if you can try to not let your "k" get too far back that will keep the double tongue light. Keep me posted on how you are tackling this issue.
