Dutch Street Food in a Vending Machine? 🇳🇱

- While touring a few cities in the Netherlands I noticed that each city had a unique street food option that I have yet to encounter. I would call this street food similar to a vending machine however it serves hot typical Dutch snacks that have to be made fresh and changed by a human.
You simply put your money into the machine which then unlocks the magnetic locks giving you acess to the hot Netherlands street food. I tried as many as I could and trust me I was very hungry. All the snack where good so to show you which of the street food items I liked most I rated them on a scale of 1-10.
Incase you're wondering where you can get this Dutch street food I found this one in Utrecht however I did come across them on my tours of all the other Dutch cities I visited on this trip in the Netherlands.

Warning for every tourist taking a kroket in the Netherlands. Never ever take the first bite as a big mouth full as the filling can be under pressure when it comes directly out of the frying pan. There for there is a possibility the piping hot filling will “explode” into your mouth.
Always be careful with your first bite. That also goes for the kaas soufle (cheese with a crunchy crost) Love from Amsterdam 🇳🇱
True but only when they're fried frozen which almost never happens at Febo as they take it out of the freezer on time.

I’m from the Nederlands and your dam right when i for the first time try the kroket i was like 6 or 7 years old I didn’t know those things can be that hot so i took a LARGE bite because i thought it was like not that hot I burned my hole mouth the burn stayed i my mouth for 4 day everything i did hurt hahahahahahahaha

as a dutch man i can say to you. Most off the times the vending food are laying to long and gets nasty, not crunchy but soft. mostly i take an order inside so im sure i get a fresh one.

Contrary to popular belief, weed and hasj is illegal in the Netherlands. Our government runs this weird policy of tolerance better known as 'gedoogdbeleid'. This basically means that buying and selling weed is illegal but it won't be enforced as long as you're not carrying more than 5 grams on your person. It a weird and outdated policy. They should just legalize it like some states of the USA.

Frikandel (ground beef or veal
, salt, pepper, allspice, nutmeg, onion powder)
Correct, and the flour is
wheat flour.
There are
potato croquettes but usually replacing fries or other potatoes in a diner.
The frikandel actually is mixed with chicken.

Base is all kind of eatable animal parts that are minced very small to prevent recognition, spices make the taste.
Frikadellen are mostly chicken these days
In my opinion the rundvleeskroket can be eaten like this or on a bun where as the kalfsvleeskroket is only at it's best when eaten just like it is. Kalfsvleeskroket on a bun just reminds me too much of putting mushroomsoup or ragout on a bun. Too creamy and not enough structure/texture. The more subtle taste is kind of lost.
Kaassoufle is the snack that never cools down. Out the deepfryer- burned mouth. Wait a minute- burned mouth. Wait 5 minutes- burned mouth. 3 Weeks later- you get my point. All tourists be warned!!! Dutch snacks are 1.5 times hotter than hot coffee.
Even when the cheese is not melted anymore - like in the video - it's still hot :P

As a dutchman living in Australia the last 20 yrs, watching this, the kaassouffle and frikadel made my mouth water like mad... och, such delicious goodness! Lucky buggers!

First of all there's no mashed potatoes in a kroket and also no mozzarella in a kaassoufflé.
The kroket is made of ragout (1st one was beef and the 2nd one was veal)
The kaassoufflé has Gouda cheese inside.
Frikandel is one of the most popular snacks in the netherlands, specially with mayo, curry ketchup and chopped onions. (frikandel speciaal)

Febo is a Dutch fast food chain with it's origin from Amsterdam and particular from the FErdinand BOlstraat, hence the name FEBO and can be found all across the Netherlands.
Most of the snacks you ate is also eaten with a white bun and all sorts of sauce.
Unfortunately you haven't tried the fries with all different sorts of sauce.

Thank you for putting out Utrecht content! There are very few videos about this charming city that are fairly recent (less than one-year-old videos). My trip there was cancelled last March because of the pandemic. I’ve noticed that people there are not wearing masks (even in your Amsterdam and Rotterdam videos). Looks like most establishments are back in business, too! Take care, you two!

This was very fun to watch they have quite a variety of snacks and burgers stocked in these vending machine and you seem to enjoy everything 😄
One important advice, always go to the Febo when it is busy, so the vending machines will be filled very frequently, otherwise they stay to long inside the vendingmachines and get 'old' and not so tasty anymore. Specially the crunchy ones, they get soft. Better is to order them fresh at the counter so they will fry your snacks for you.

Rundvleeskroket does not contain a potato mix. "rundvlees" is beef and the kroket has some other additives, but definitely no potato in a typical beef kroket.
"Kalfsvlees" is veal. (so infant cow)

A base ragout is one key ingredient of a kroket.

Never bite into a kroket like that... If its just out of the fryer the ragout inside will burn your mouth. Start with a small bite to see how hot it is.

The American Guy They sell the McKroket in The Netherlands, so they’re on their (Dutch) way. I always get that one at McDonalds. Only the Automatiek (The automatic boxes wall) is not used (yet) by McDonalds, or anywhere else in the world I believe.

Whenever I'm in the Netherlands I go to a Febo, too bad they could never open in Germany cause of weird hygiene standards and bureaucracy
The funny thing is that the grilburger from FEBO won the award of the best burger in Amsterdam. And we do have some rather fancy burger restaurants. But the simple burger from the FEBO just works. Nothing too fancy, and it just works.
And you are brave to try the Frikandel at 9:15. A lot of stories go around about that one. That it contains horse meat for example, which is actually does in some cases... But it is as you say, basically a fried sausage. And it is good.
There is NO mashed potato in kroketten. It is ragouts with meat. Can be cow's ( rundvlees), calves ( kalf) or it can have special herbs in lambsmeat and is then called Goulash-kroket.

That looks almost exactly like the Automats of my youth from the USA. The setting was a little more formal, China plates and nicer tables but much the same boxes with the chef behind the wall. Wish they would start them up here again. No hassle.

This is so much fun to watch 😄 The febo 'snackbars' as we call them are like the Dutch mc Donald's. As kids we spent our entire pocket money on these vending machines. I remember the coins burning in my pocket to go get a snack there...

This concept isn't bad but could use some updating for quality control and use less resources, have like wall of kiosk screens, you place your order and pay, and one guy fills your order at the slot under the kiosk, he just keeps his par levels up between the fryer and a holding oven.
That's enough calories for a whole week! I'm not big on this type of snack, esp not Febo. But if you want to try any, I'd recommend the sate kroket. Battered bread crumbs on the outside, chicken sate (peanut sauce) on the inside. A bami blok also isn't bad (a noodle meal compressed into a block, again battered bread crumbs on the outside. I don't think Febo has that though.
He skipped the Saté Kroket. That's the best one... filled with peanutbutter sauce.

That Church restaurant is a good idea , with an active Texas BBQ basement, pay at the counter😷😷😉😉, and the portrayal of Venezuelan people, very nice , lots of room for the border idea ,and quirky architecture, you have a whole world to WORk in , and don't get dust in peoples eyes with happy holy😉😍❤💙💛💜

Next time you try snacks from a vending machine try go to a “snackbar” that is not part of a chain or franchise, unlike the “FEBO” you tried here. The quality food is often better.

Man there is no potato inside the kroket its called ragout, A traditional kroket is made from a meat(like beef, or lamb etc) ragout covered in breadcrumbs and then deep fried.

When I was a teenager these machines worked on one guilder . And if you did not open the lid completely the guilder would not fall through , but you were still able to grab the frikandel or kroket , and then open another box . We emptied a complete verticle line for just one guilder !

FEBO is a abbreviation from Ferdinant Bol, the street in Amsterdam where the first Febo started.
This food vending machine looks amazing. D potato croquette looked delicious too. So were d chicken burger, pocket pie, chicken finger, all looked fresh n good.
