Fujifilm has released the new X-T4 which has some big updates from the previous model, especially for shooting video. There is a new dedicated movie mode. For the first time in the X-T series we have image stabilization, there's a new flip out screen, a new battery, improved autofocus performance, an FHD mode for filming high speed slow motion (10x at 240 fps), you can now record to both cards at once for video backup, there is a new f log view assist, movie optimized control and much more.
Image stabilization is a huge addition to this camera. Previously we've only seen it in the Fuji X-H1 and the Fuji GFX 100. Adding this to the X-T series is a welcome addition.
So is it worth the upgrade from the Fujifilm X-T3? In this video I'll break it all down.

I never really learned how to shoot photo's and video until I bought the X-T4. It's hard to put into words, but this camera, by the way it is designed, makes you understand how it all works. That's a huge benefit. I just love shooting and experimenting with this camera. All my Sony camera's (A6400, A6600) feel like toys now. Fuji nailed it. And thanks for your review, very helpful. Keep up the good work.
I've watched a lot of reviews on the X-T4 and was primarily interested from a video perspective. Many of the others simply shot video and tested the autofocus without too much detail into the settings that they were using - they simply shot and that was considered the alpha and omega of the subject. I was happy to see that you went into a bit more detail on the autofocus and knew what the custom settings did. I have more confidence in seeing what you did and found versus some of the other reviewers. Thank you for the extra bit of detail.
That's the difference between a Photographer on UA-cam and a UA-camr with a camera. ;)
Theres alot of decent free video software's out there check them out ...
@@fabienb yeah EXACTLY
Ted, you incorporate so much knowledge into every video and review. I've learned so much from your channel and really appreciate how you're able to cut through the noise of gear reviews on UA-cam.
The thing that I like the most from the x-t4 is that I will finally be avaliable to get the x-t3
They are $800 locally here, pre-owned. I have never been more tempted.
I bought one for 880
$1299 Brand New with the Battery Grip right now, just bought one today!
I got an XT-2 & XT-20 now, bought them both used at great price, happy with them both. I think I'll stick with my XT-2 for now and wait for the XT-5 to come out and buy XT-4 used, I would buy a used XT-3 now if it comes with IBIS.
People always talk about the skin tone differences between Sony, Canon, etc and honestly i rarely see a difference big enough to warrant the fuss. but when you switched from Sony(?) to the Fuji, the difference was totally noticeable. the colors coming out of that camera are incredible
That cut from the XT-4 to the A7 III makes me want the X-T4
same
Yes to more video content!
I wouldn’t mind more video centric videos like this one. Thanks for all your great content! Love your stuff
i've been following your videos from a decade... yes thats right, since my college days.. i think i have seen almost all your videos... if you say xt4 is good.. then i have no reason not to believe... i was thinking b/w z6 and xt3... so now i will buy xt4.. keep doing these videos... respect from India
Well made video! You explain what you are doing and what we are seeing (for those of us that are amateurs), and you really know your stuff!...Thanks!
Thanks for great info! ... I really appreciate your teaching on art, history, composition and current photographers.
Just got mine a couple weeks ago, been loving it so far
Ted you are the man!! As usual, stellar review. Although I am a hybrid shooter, I am more of a video guy myself - would love to see more video content!
Your channel has to be among the top 3 in regards to what feels honest, prifessional and inteligent camera (and lenses...) reviews.
I've been waiting for the XT-4 for months, seen many previews/reviews but yours is the best, the smartest with as many out of the box refrences, not just hyped specs read out load.
Thanks, keep it up and please do the X100-V in depth video review, as from each of your reviews I learn more even if the camera itself does not interest me as potential buyer.
Top review as usual, thanks for the great detailed work.
Excellent comprehensive review of the movie side.
Sony needs to respond.
Thank you for mentioning the first appoint movie optimization because I was stuck written, change the F stock nor the shutter speed so I was confused what they have done wrong, but I got it because of you. Thanks again.
I would love to see more on the video side. You explain things so well.
Wow. I was afraid to click your thumbnail as it was 19 minutes long but it was a deep, insightful and meaningful 19 minutes! Thank you for sharing and keep up the good work!
This is one Camera that other manufacturers should take full notice on ...
From ergonomics & beautiful looks, fully articulating screen, easy still/movie switch, packed with Cinematic features,etc....
As Hughe Branson said quite correctly, " Boundary Busting, Headache inducing, & Jolt to rest of industry ",..
I wish this was a full frame camera then it would have taken the Crown ....well done FUJI 👌👌👌👏👏👏
Outstanding as always! Thanks Ted!
Loved the eterna bypass samples! Subbed immediately!
Great video about the X-T4. But more excited for your in-depth review of the X100 V. Hope you can cover everything from photo and video capability and quality and issues some people are talking about like the X100 V getting too hot. Would really appreciate your insight on this.
Fantastic video. I learned a lot. Thank you.
Awesome info. Definitely keep doing video material
Great info! This is the one i've been waiting for!!
You are incredibly informative. Thank you
The points are on target ! Awesome review !
As a hybrid shooter, would love to see more content on video. Thanks and keep up the good work!
Thanks for the great video Ted!
Thanks for the great video! I mentioned you’ve been using XT4 and A7III for this filming. What would be your choice between these two?
Great 'no bullshit' review. Thank you for not wasting everyone's time!
Hey Ted, great video! I can’t wait to see your review of the X100V. I’m thinking about ordering it but I’m not quite sure yet because I’d love to shoot some video with it as well (as an every day/mostly personal work kind of camera). Having neither IBIS/OIS nor digital IS (which is indeed bad but better than nothing), do you think the X100V is still usable for some handheld-non-moving shots?
Would LOVE to see your review of the x100V
Excellent video with great details. I would be interested in a comparison video of the Sony 7SIII and the Fuji XT4.
Awesome looking with that 35mm 1.4 and the lenshood!
Which Gimbal do you recommend with the Fuji X-T4? Great video and great camera!
Good thorough video again, Ted.
What you say at the end of this video is very interesting as, in fact, cameras are more and more designed for both stills and video.
But for those who are not at all interested in video, it’s a bit worrisome to see all those video capabilities being added on camera bodies at what must inevitably be a cost.
So here is my simple and probably very naive questions, for you and the subscribers of this channel : would a stills only XT-4 or X100V with no video capabilities cost less? Is there a potential market in the digital world for stills only cameras?
Thank you and cheers to all!
Excellent & balanced review, Thanks! Does Fuji have an App similar to Oly & Canon for in-camera control & data transfer? If so, how does it compare? Amazing camera! Sold all my Nikon DSLR gear & glass last year and am watching the battlefield this year to see which system to buy into. Leaning Sony at the moment, used A7RIII, but this is a brilliant camera!
Some really good features.
lovely video Ted!
Ted, great video! In your discussion and example of the exposure ramping, did you keep iris & shutter speed fixed while leaving ISO on auto? I do run n gun shooting, so it's essential some parameter are left in auto mode.
Great info and thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks for the video record limit. I couldn't find it on the spec sheet everywhere
Great content, what lens do you recommend in terms of good AF?
Thanks for your video! What’s the mic you have, and is it any good?
Video and photo? Yessss Pleaseeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Hello! is there clipping on the sensor at full hd 240p?
Great review! I enjoyed it a lot.
Great review Ted (as always). Just a quick question regarding recording time limitation (29min) being forced by European Tax. How come GH4 never even a subject of such limitation?
I grew up taking film stills, of course I have moved over to digital stills years ago. However, over the last couple of years, I have combined the stills with video. So, this XT-4 is really speaking to where photography and video are heading - as you said, the lines are blurring (good comment and observation on your part)!
Thanx very much Ted👏. I would like to see some handheld video from the x100v. Also if the ND will work in video mode. At the moment I,m torn between xt 4 and x100v. ..
Great video again. Great to hear about video.
great review thank you
I’m an occasional and novice shooter with an x-t20. I know I don’t need an upgrade for my purposes but that camera sure is nice. I will eventually upgrade to another Fuji but I might wait a few more years.
Woah what a video, that earns a sub, I’m sold! Such quality. Question! 1:05 to 1:09 what camera body and lens filmed this scene? They should get some credit too! Incredible!
Thank you Ted
Maybe I am going crazy, but I feel like the IBIS still has that jerky look similar, though not nearly as bad, to what I have seen in X-H1. It definitely gets the shake out, but I think I might rather have some shake than smooth footage with random quick little jerks from the IBIS. It feels jarring to have something so smooth suddenly be not smooth for a fraction of a second. idk are my eyes playing tricks on me? Other than that, I'm pretty pleased with what I am seeing out of this camera!
Would you compare the low light capability of xt4 vs a7iii. How high can we go with iso with both cameras and get useful footage.?
Well done, thank you
Can't wait for the full review of the product, not the pre production model!
Too darn informative and on point yo
Very positive, other reviews spoke about problems with AF compared to Sony and not so well working IBIS. I would wish it were as good as Olympus' in video mode.
Hey! Your "Until then..." outtro didn't cut off! Haha.
Anyway, I, too, want to add some small video to my work. Which is why this will be my next camera to tag along with my X-T3 and X-T1. Yes, I love my X-T1!
My question is do you have a recommendation for a laptop (not Apple product) that would be good to hand some video work? My dedicated laptop for still is great. I just don't want to overwhelm it. And while I'm there, storage ideas. Normally, I just back up all the raws to two externals. The finished jpegs are also on two separate drives.
15:00 I put on any unstablized prime lens on XT4, with IBIS and DIS on, I also got very jerky images when I panned slowly. However, when I put on the 18-55 OIS lens, I got gimbal-like smoothnes in the footage. So I now only use OIS lenses for shooting handheld video. For unstablized prime lenses, I will use a gimbal.
Damn dude! There was a load of info in this video about video. This brings a new meaning to “first look/impressions” videos...Some of those film looks were pretty cool. I’m looking up the pricing on this bad boy now.
Yeah it is a lot for sure… super nice camera.
Getting three of these for my work. One for video and two for stills.
Why 2 for stills and not just the xt3 at a cheaper price
@@omills22 I know my work load. I already have 4 x XT3's
Great review.
Great Video my Nikon has all Gone, I so liked the XT3.. I got the XT4 3 lenses and more 😁📷
since its an apsc ... is it possible to take wide video ? if I wanna shoot a building and want to fit that wide and tall buildings , are there any budget lens for xt-4 ? thank u. im leaning more towards Sony A7iii but I like fuji xt-4 tooo... hard to choose :(
Silly question, were you able to actually find the f log view assist? I bought this camera (love it) but I'm almost convinced its not actually a feature. Tried every video setting available, still no clue.
Dear Ted. Did you experience any overheating of the X-T4 while using it? Thank you!
I kind of like the eterna bleached look for the talking vids. I find it easy on the eyes really.
Waiting for your review of xt5
Is that a battery-powered mic mounted on the X-T4? It looked like a micro, but I didn’t think those worked with this camera?
Which lens did you use for the video ?? Was it the kit lens by any chance ?? I have seen mostly youtubers struggling with focus issues apart from 1 or 2.
If you can help me with that, that would be awesome.
Ted what microphone were you using the XT4? Was that the Rode VideoMicro? I have one but the XT4 does not like that microphone haha.
Great video sir as always , i am Thinking of getting a new camera soon shall i get fujifilm xt- 4 or wait for canon eos R5 ????
@@ThorenTravels i know that bro
I've yet to see a video of the XT-4's IBIS that makes it look good in video mode. Photo mode it looks just okay.
It looks crap doesn't it.
Flip screen, oh yeah 👍🏼
What in camera settings do you use to get the highest quality files for print.
Does this ISO stepping up and down in movie mode happen only in Fujifilm cameras?
when i insert my videos to my editing software, only sound, video not show, think it says mov, my footages from sony camera is mp4,they show. im new to this cam, not sure wats up
How come you haven't done a full review of the XT4 yet? Maybe I just keep scrolling by it but I have not seen one in the videos section on your channel.
Well I'm sold on it
Please make a video on Fuji XE4
Very good Thanks 🙏💝
Even with Xh1 or xt3 we have silent movie settings! Which will allow you to have different settings for video than the settings of pictures.
The problem of UA-camrs that they don't know everything about the the topic that they are talkin about it
bought an xt 4 after watching this. : )
What's about max video length? Why is there a limit of 30 minutes? Only for 4K or also for FHD?
yeah im actually thinking of jumping boats for video with this one..... (from sony full frame!)
Does this camera has auto mode? Sorry about my weird question here as it isn’t related to video-ing. But I’m curious as I read the user manual and I didn’t see auto mode.
The 240 frames per second mode.. is there a time limit?
Hey Ted,
Is that your Raid/Backup drives right behind your left hand? Throw some black gaffer tape over there big blue light, it's distracting and I find myself staring at it. Cover the green one while you're at it too :-)
Thx
Andy
As someone who bought the X-T3 for its video capabilities on top of the still capabilities (I use it more for stills - I was upgrading from the X-Pro1), this kind of review is very useful.
Better sell quick. If u do plan to swap to xt4 , before prices fall
are both card slots UHS-II?
Everyone does gear...I tune in for other things. Having said that the Nikon Noct lens review was different and interesting.
@@KeithCanisius well... new gear came out
@@KeithCanisius check out this idea....
You see the title, it's a product review.... dont click. Win win
What is the base ISO for the XT4? Is it still 800? Thanks
hello I have a question to ask you! I have a xt4 and I make sports videos I would like to be able to take advantage of slow motion but also capture the audio. the xt4 deactivates it automatically with slow motion so do you have a solution to propose to me? thank you
Thank-you!!! I have been REALLY upset about the warbly jello effect I have seen in other reviewer's video samples, and you clearly demonstrated that this is a result of the digital IS, not the IBIS. Seriously just talked me off the ledge now and I've just moved this cam back up the leader board. Now, I just need to cajole the wife.
I'm curious about your sign-off. What does "Until the next time, later" mean? I think of "later" being a contraction of "See you later". So that translates into "Until next time I will see you later". Which translates into "I'll see you later, later." Why not just say, "See you next time" or "See you later" or just "Later".
