Just upgraded from X-T2 to X-T4. I wish I had gone through something like this with the X-T2. Very useful and will help me greatly in the field. So much to learn.
I just picked up an X-T4 and will be giving this video a thorough watch when I get some time to play with it. Recently discovered your channel. Love the content! Your walks bring memories of a 2019 trip to London and Edinburgh flooding back!
Movie Optimized is really important because if you flip from PHOTO to Video the video will grab all the settings from the physical dials. If you set it to optimized it will keep previous movie settings like 48fps etc. But you still get the two command dials to adjust shutter speed, aperture, ISO if you want (Which the XT3 didn't allow) So it's basically like a memory mode for video settings.
Roman, Thanks so much for the video. I just got an XT4. My first new camera, other than an iPhone in years. I think I’ll give your set up a roll and see how it goes. Such a detailed video. Lots of information. Best!
Haha. I bought my Canon M50 and when I was looking into cameras some more I have also bought an X-T4, which I really couldn't afford. But the video and images I was seeing from it were stunning. Now I just need to put it to work and try to produce some "cinematic" footage. Have a noce day pall, God bless.
This was an incredible guide and walkthrough the camera settings, thank you so much, Roman! Just a tip from me for your video: In your description, add: Intro: 00:00 - it will then create chapters for the video, so that people can flick through on their mobile/desktop. Without the initial 00:00, UA-cam doesn't create chapters (at least not from my experience haha!)
I would really like if you would make an updated version of the above video, This time, based on your latest knowledge of modern focusing found on the X-H2s - I wanted to also say thanks so much for your excellent videos. Really enjoy watching them.
Very very helpful video! After playing with the setting on my new camera remembered that watched this video and start watching it again but this time with X-T4 in the hands. Thanks, and keep it going.
Fine work and many thanks for sharing your setup as well as the reasoning behind the options you've selected. The amount of customisation is incredible compared to my old EOS 5D. Looks like tomorrow will be a day of street photography for me as I play around with this camera. Thanks again :-)
Enjoy your video very much. This is one of the best videos I have ever watched over the years Oh and setting up a camera and That saying a hell of a lot.
This sounds like a good way to go with settings, I just got my hands on a XT4 who is my first real digital camera since 2009 and shooting film for all these years. I still dont understand why photographers need all these setting but fair enough haha Anyways interesting video. I got a lot to catch up on and this has definitely saved me some time!
Mr Fox. Thankyou very much for this comprehensive explanation of fuji settings!! I was unaware how to use some of them and I was rubbish at using my X-T20 because of that... I didn't read the manual, admittedly, but I still say Fuji asks you to learn through trial and error on a lot of settings especially if youre a noob like me. I like your auto ISO settings and had previously given up on Auto because i didn't trust it. I also hadn't tried turning off IBIS on a lens in decent conditions. I only wish i had the new Q menu... I was also going nuts with backbutton focus vs shutter release and youve set me straight. Thanks again. Alex
What an awesome video! Thank you! I've been using kind of my own customization of the menus of this camera but definitely gonna try out many of the ways you set things up. Thank you again 🙏
As with your other videos I’ve seen, this is very helpful. Really appreciate the time, effort, thought you’ve put into these (and in helping others out) ! Also appreciate the good organization with your links and info. (Thank you!)
In order for those Auto ISO presets to work properly, you need to make sure ISO Dial Setting is set on Auto (you can get there by going to Menu>wrench symbol>Button/Dial Setting (A)>Auto). This was tripping me up today.
Execellent thanks. I have just followed your settings and now have to go and try it out. I still don't understand it all, but I guess a bit of practise willl help. I especially enjoy making videos
Roman, thanks for this vid - I've watched it several times and appreciate that you explain why you choose certain settings. Any chance of the PDF coming soon?? That would be so very cool.
OMG !! Is there a button or a dial to add a 1000 likes to your video ? Thanks a million times man ! This is relevant thinking and instructive as i just switched to the xt-4, Thanks again and keep up the great work !
Fantastic Video Roman! I've learnt a lot, and ventured out of the settings the camera was set to, as I continue to learn how to set it up for my style of photography. - Did you ever eventually change your ISO "Auto" settings based on now having IBIS in the X-T4 vs the settings you had in your X-T3? Do you have a video on those yet? - Thanks again!
hmmm not really... I just checked and mine is at min 1/200... even with ibis, id rather not run the risk if the light is good enough... low light is a different story
Getting the XT4 this thursday, this is very helpful! Thanks! I rented this weekend the XT3 and I was fascinated by it. EyeAF is very good and the 56mm is a total different lense on it, barely no hunting. How do you find sharpness with IBIS on non-OIS lenses at normal shuter speeds?
Hi. The Q menu for both photography and video can set up to 16 settings with a minimum of 4 settings. Anyway, on the X-T2 and X-H1 you can change the metering from the joystick controller. Can't seem to do it on the X-T4 though.
Awesome video Roman! My X-T4 is in the post and this is so helpful. Interesting with your auto SS being 1/100 - what range would you try for a bit of movement blur in busy street photos without camera shake?
I think these are very helpful comments; I wonder why you don’t include example shots to contextualise your advice. This isn’t a criticism, more a remark about how what you do week could be strengthened and reach a larger audience.
Nice job on the video. Two questions. First, what temperature did you use for your video WB? I saw you set it to Kelvin, but you did not show the setting. Second, have you considered a video on your shooting and video techniques? I notice you use the monitor for most of your photo shots. I learned to shoot with the viewfinder, but your methods looks a lot more efficient. I would like to get some pointers on how to do it well. Thanks.
I got this camera yesterday and super excited to go all out using it. I got it with the XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR Lens. I wonder if I should've gotten the XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS Lens instead? What do you folks think?

Just a simple question: I’m new in the photo world and I just start making photo with a second hand and very cheep canon but now I want to pass to a Fuji. In your opinion, to start to experiment with a mirrorless in a constant travel/ hiking mode ( I use to live in a van most of the year ) is the Xt 30 with a 35mm f2 a good combo? Ps I don’t have a lot of money and I’ ll buy everything secondhand. Thanks for your time and thanks for the work you put in this channel.
you haven't mentioned anything about preview white balance on - off for menu buttons to use around for studios rather than , time consuming in the menus for every shoot to switch off ???
Hello! I want to thank you for your effort to train new users of fuji xt-4, I am using fuji xt-4 for the first time for video, I speak Spanish and I cannot find how to control the volume of the audio that enters the camera, that is, If I can look at the volume level on the audio bar on the screen, but I can't turn it up or down on the front of the camera, can you help me with that?

Hey Roman! I have a question about the xt4. Something that only a person who actually hold it in his hands can answer. I do visual effects and for me it's very important that sensor is stable inside the body. So no Optical or in body image stabilization works for this particular task. I still would like to buy the camera with image stabilization But if there is a hidden problem with Ibis. Sometimes it vibrates or wobbles because it's on magnetic cushions so to speak. It's not fixed to the body like a sensor without Ibis. It would be lovely if you can check if that's happening. There is no information online even for cameras sold for years now let alone about this one. It's too specific. If you want to check this I can tell you how to do it. You turn Ibis off , Zoom with your kit lens or any lense that is considered Zoom or close to zoom. Turn recording to any High frame rate put a camera on something very stable preferably a countertop, something that doesn't vibrate and put something below your camera. Just on one side. Something thin because you have to pull it out so the camera drops a little bit, one angle of it at least. You put something not really thick so you don't hurt your camera. Thickness of a holding part of a spoon is enough. When you pull it out the camera will drop just a little bit and you will see in a footage if there is a wobble after the initial impact. I know it's a lot to ask but I have no choice since retailers have no idea and Fuji probably won't tell you since if so I just won't buy the thing. Thanks in any case. If nothing at least for reading this much!
@@snapsbyfox thanks a lot! Those are micro movements/vibrations that can confuse your camera tracking software. Because of Ibis the connection between the sensor and the body is not rigid, the sensor is suspended on some sort of Springs and moved by magnets.
I’m a professional photographer coming over from canon. Used my Fuji XT-4 for the first time last night. Out of the box the picture quality looks a little worse than a 7 year old iphone. Why is the photo quality so bad out of the box? Are there some settings that need to be adjusted to make the images normal quality?
Elaine van der Toorn I’ll try that thanks! I wonder if there’s any way to fix the giant lag on the long exposures? And mine keeps freezing, almost got my dog bit by a snake when I took it out to try and film, it immediately froze. My camera only works about 50% of the time tbh I’m amazed at the low quality in Fuji gear. Thinking of returning this thing tbh, you miss so many shots.
Roman Fox I’m not really sure to be honest, I think it might just be that the sensor is not good enough quality to do long exposures or something. I would never be able to shoot Coachella or Hard Summer with this camera, you can’t change lenses outdoors. One of the top reviewers said not to change lenses in the wind, I laughed out loud. I didn’t realize before I bought it that this is only good for studio work.
