This video deserves more views and likes...you are the only person talking about background hunting and bokeh jittering with an absolutely perfect and spot on solution...well done
thank you. i have an xt5 and mainly using it to shoot action figure reviews. i was having issues focusing when i remove the center subject and replaced it with another subject . i found the camera had a hard time refocusing. i will try this option.
Hi, it seems that this strategy is wonderful and very consistent in interview videos, webcam, indoor lives! It no longer works so well, in vlogs walking on the street, my impression is when choose track eyes + face + ALL with sensitivity +3 and -2 speed is much, much better than the Balbo-AutoFocus Fuji Mode, since we rarely turn our heads to the point that the likely large-amplitude lens(choose for make vlogs) does not see our eyes! Extraordinary and incredible discovery to use throughout the X series as webcam, lives and interviews, totally avoiding focus hunt errors, remembering that just save the configuration and you can dispose of Balbo-AutoFocus Fuji Mode in less than 2 seconds! Congratulations! Congratulations!
I was not expecting such good advice when I started this video. I am very happy I watched the whole thing. Outstanding advice. I will definitely try this tip. 👍
I'm going to give this a try. I've just had to ditch two videos as my face was out of focus. Very frustrating, but would be great if this helps. Thanks for the tips.
Great tip. Whit this setting, Do you need to lock (I mean by touching the screen) the focus box on your head when u start shooting. Or it does it automatically. I don't have the xt4 .... Yet . And auto focus is my main concern for talking head video.
Such a great video! Thank you. There is an issue on my xt4 where the MOVIE AF MODE is always disabled (despite changing the M C S dial on the front of the camera) do you know how to fix that?
Thanks Balbo that was very helpful.I don't often shoot video but i shot some footage for a local youtube channel today and it was great to be able to get straight to the camera settings and make the adjustments.Thank you !
Hi, friend! I have a question, would you help me please? to be able to focus automatically do I have to have a lens that has the automatic aperture option? or simply with any lens that does not have that option and with the corresponding configuration could it be? thanks!
What about talking (singing) head plus hand strumming guitar? (Filming a sitting gig). The usual problem is EAF losing focus and then immefiately does lsecond best”, shifting to hand strumming. Shut off EAF - fine. Makes sense. Autolimiting though, range btw ”singing-head” and strumming hand is too narrow to differentiate/limit out. Still, despite natrow range, it make a noticable difference in the result. So easy to notice when eye slips out of focus, even so little.
Great video..it helped Thnks brother..and what's your AF speed and sensitivity setting in this video while showing viltrox lens and back forth AF to you?
Thank you 🙏 I was on Sensitivity +4 (don’t want focus to change every time I move my hand inside the AF box while talking), AF Speed -2 (targeting smoother rather than faster transitions).
Edit: You answered my question in the video already ;D THANK YOU! I am planning to upgrade from ZV-1 to XT-4, and everyone is talking about the AF performance. But I need a camera with 10bit so I can color, and I really don't feel like Sony.
I love my fuji but might jump to a Sony a7siii because of the AF. I’m not going into crazy settings then jumping back and forth when I need focus to work far out. That to me is insane for a camera that costs this much.
So the tips you included are wonderful but I was also wondering about one other setting within the camera a little below the AF RANGE LIMITER. The FOCUS CHECK LOCK setting I have turned to off but I was wondering how this would help if it was turned ON especially when shooting video?
What's interesting is the subject tracking in photo mode is great, you can tap on any moving object and it will track it perfectly. The second you switch to video mode, all of the great auto focusing functionality is disabled, argh!! - I wonder if it is possible to keep the camera in photo mode to get usable autofocus, but record the HDMI output hmm
Good work brother. I'm not able to make a decision only because of eye auto focus. I'm back to confusion again. I'll wait for A7iv to come and then make a decision. I absolutely love the xt4 but, you know
The eye autofocus of the X-T4 is great when it works, what’s missing is a smooth transition between the moments when the camera tracks the eye and the moment it loses the eye so switch to a different focus strategy 😉
Merci beaucoup excellente vidéo 👍 I want to buy this camera for video but I was skeptical because I’ve seen many bad reviews of the autofocus performance in video, but with your explanation you answer many of my question. Thanks once again
Good morning: It is the first time I visit your channel, I find it interesting. I want to take Harold the opportunity to ask you: what is the best setting to focus hummingbirds in a X T4, I have in my home a drinking fountain, to make a focused photo is very difficult . Thanks in advance for your answer.
hey! how do you get the af transition to be smooth like in the scene with the two static figures? Can't get it right. I have the xs-10 don't know if there's a difference, hope you can help.
Felicitations sur le video! Great tip that I subscribed your channel without a doubt! Looking forward for future content. I didn't check all of your videos yet, however I'm curious on what your thoughts regarding the AF-C customs settings e.g. scenarios from 1 to 5, as I mostly `shoot` sports. Merci bien.
Thank you for these priceless tips. My question is since I don't vlog, can I use range limiter for general video shooting, like b-roll, scenic stuff etc? Thank you !
Technically you can, but I don’t think it will be useful in your case, as most of your focusing distances will be further from the camera, which is easier to track for the focusing system.
Thank you for the tips.. it very helpful for me on my new xt4.. i was very mad about the af performance from this camera.. i hope the new future firmware will fix the af and jumping ibis issue..
thanks a lot for this good video!!! BTW you look like Serge Ramelli's brother !!! :) :) I tried to film some flowers and insects. It was a disaster when I try to change the focus from one insect and go to the next flower and the other insect... I was frustrating!!!! Thank you so much for the explanations!!!! Best from Uruguay!
Thank you very much for such a great explanation and the info about not pressing ok instead of disp. back. I have Viltrox 33mm. Now i will go and make my tests :)
very informative vide. Planning to apply these settings. Do you think it will work on Pool table? Most of them are not longer than 3 to 4 meters. My aim to get ball in focus when the shot is made.
Thank you for sharing this tip! I have not seen anybody else on UA-cam to suggest this. I thought it would only work with stills. I think that a bit bigger zone for autofocus would work more reliably than the face and eye AF, which is difficult to develop as you mentioned.
I think a lot of people think that the AF range limiter setting is not available in video, because if you don’t know that you have to turn OFF the eye-detect AF the menu is greed out.
@@ddangelo42 a followup question: I tested the AF range limiter settings with my X-T4. WIth the 18-55 kit lens its seemed to work pretty well, but with my Sigma 18-35 with the Fringer adapter I was not able to set the range correctly. It looked like the actual range of the lens was about half of the settings in the camera. Have you tried theses range limiter settings with 3rd party lenses, native XF mount and other with adapter? Also, have you tried using the Multi option instead of Area?
I have not tried with adapted lens, but a lot of people are using them so your discovery is very important information! I have not tried the multi zone either, as by default I prefer to keep control of the focus area so did not think of it, but it’s a good idea to try indeed.
@@ddangelo42 I made a very preliminary test with the Multi mode and the 18-55 kit lens. And it seemed to work pretty well with the AF range limited from 30cm to about 1m. The camera focused on my face on the right hand side and when I showed a toy on the left hand side, the camera grabbed focus very nicely. And then back to my face when I removed the toy. I will run some more tests!
@@ddangelo42 Thanks for the video! This is how AF limiter works on my XT3. I set the range to, for instance, 1 to 1.5 m. So I point the camera to an object which is 1 m away and it is focused. But if I then point to the faraway background, it is not true that the focus stayed at 1 m. Instead, the camera tries to focus the background until it reaches the limit, 1.5 m. At this point, the object at 1 m is out of focus. So, even if it is better if the focus doesn’t go beyond 1.5 m, it is not the case that the focus doesn’t respond to faraway objects. If you want to follow someone walking and you set the AF limiter to 1.5-3 m, I think you can still have focus flickering. But I will have to try following someone with a gimbal, sometimes changing the distance from the person, and using AF limiter.
I set my range limit today for a Vlog test outside and there was some major breathing with the autofocus. I was using the 18-55 at 18 with the limit set between 0.5 and 1.5 meters. I had tracking sensitivity at +3 and AF speed to -3, just curious what speeds you have set? Even when sitting in front and not really moving it was still losing focus on me, any ideas?
I have. It tried with adapted lens. If the lens adapter does not receive/transmit the proper focusing distances, or with a crop factor, then it would makes sense to see this translate into the results. Might be too cumbersome in this case. I am using the highest tracking sensitivity setting and for AF speed I use -3 or -2 depending on the lens.
Sorry, i thought I was replying to a different comment 😅 The 18-55 works well for me. Try widening a bit your range or increase your focus area to have some safety perhaps. Unfortunately I would need to be next to you to do real troubleshooting.
Balbo42 I appreciate the help and video. It was my first attempt so I’ll continue to test. When I was at a certain distance it seemed to work well so I guess it’s a matter of adjusting the limit. I’ll try again. Thanks again.
@@ddangelo42 I'm continuing to test the AF Range Limiter on my XT4 and even when I set a custom setting of 0.3 - 2.0 meters doing a vlog type talk the camera is still losing my face and grabbing focus on the wall behind me which is well beyond 2 m. It seems to be a straightforward setting but it always tries to focus well beyond my set range limit and the focus is terrible :(
