Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, .... In my personal opinion, she is even the best.
There are a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing acapella without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her amazing phrasing, breath management and her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
• she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish) and has sung in 12 languages in total
• she is an amazing songwriter and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks. She often co-composes the music with the composer.
• she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
• she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia). She was raised in both countries so she speaks both french and italian as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory. She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada. She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship
She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1997 (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
in 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market, with a lot of media initial interest. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US. This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert.
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace" used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera topped the charts for months.
Many of her songs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.

Lara can be considered as the greatest French-speaking singer since Edith Piaf. She is a diva, an angel and definitely the queen for emotional ballads. Whatever she performs, it seems so easy. As a French, I can say that she has the most delicate way to speak the language.

Lara Fabian Incantare Magnifico. She has it all drama, power, and for me the Best female singer of this time. Her passion and interpretation leave no doubt what the song is about, even if you cannot speak any other than English. A young Toni Braxton professional song career, sang in just this way, but time, illness, jealousy from others and industry have taken its' toll on her. So Lara stands hands and feet above today's musocians.

Yes. Every performance by Lara is considered a professional singers Master Class and it is obvious why. As you have observed; there is micro-intentionality delivered within every part of every note, every breath, every pause between & every gesture. A powerful piece of storytelling indeed. 🤩👋👋👋

She is the ultimate storyteller, I will post her story and background in the next comment. I really suggest you find a version with English lyrics, they are so deep, raw and poetics at the same time.
You were pointing out the fact she is able to bring many emotions on stage but keeping his voice intact.
Last week, as she is the director and vocal coach of the Star Academy program in Montreal, Quebec, CA, she gave this advice to the young contestants to be able to do the same: « sing the emotions in your head, in your heart, but not in your throat : keep your throat free! »

Lovely reaction. This stunning performance was my gateway drug to her. Left me honestly gobsmacked. And it's a cover! She tweaked the original brilliantly to make it even more effective & affecting. Wait until you see it with subtitles. Her 1001 choices makes even more sense when one knows the lyrics. (There's a chanel called "Macadamia" that has all the amazing performances from this concert upscaled with onscreen subtitles for the French/Italian/Spanish songs. -She's fluent & writes in those three & in English as well.)

So glad you enjoyed her. This recording was from the turn of the Century, 1999 or 2000, and when Dimash first heard her he was a school lad. How could he not be impressed with her voice, but it was the other elements of her performance which opened his eyes to how a singer can become a complete artist by being totally absorbed by the music and the message of the song. Obviously, he learned well.
They are good friends to this day and one video on you tube is when Lara is at home and she calls Dimash on the phone to wish him Happy Birthday and she sings it to him. How would you like Lara to sing Happy Birthday to you? :)

May I take this opportunity to introduce you to another artist (unless you are aware of her already) who can touch your heart strings after only a couple of notes. Interested? The song I will suggest for you to listen to is a performance of 'Bohemian Rhapsody', rearranged masterly by a gifted vocalist. Her name is Angelina Jordan and she performed this when she was 13 years old on AGT/The Champions in 2019. If you don't know who she is, PLEASE don't dismiss her because of her age. If you are impressed with her and want to continue to listen to more of her, let me throw this out at you: She sang a Billie Holiday song on a Talent Show at 7 years old and sounded like Billie Holiday.

Hi Bob, I m discovering your chanel. I ve discovered with Lara that music is the best way to convey emotions. Have you understood the lyrics (not sure you got it)? If you re not a french speaker, can I suggest you to hear it again with the english subtitles and tell us if it worths it to get them? As a second song to listen to, I suggest you the moving Caruso (it s in italian but she speaks italian), try with or without subtitles (I always prefer with subtitles when I discover a song, but that s a matter of tastes). Caruso was a legendary italo-american tenor that died a century ago, this song is about his last days
i just loooked at the lyrics, they are very deep, dark and emotional, I didnt get that on the video. the problem is, subtitles are not transfered when i download a video and I cant do a reaction properly if i have watched it previously as its then a second viewing and not an authentic reaction.
