    Some more info on Lara:
Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, .... We can debate her rank in this list (in my personal view she tops these) but she is there.
There are also a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register.
So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence:
    • she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish) and has sung in 12 languages in total
    • she is an amazing song writer and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks. She often co-compose the music with the composer.
    • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none
    • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens
A quick background on her and her career:
She is belgian, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia). She was raised in both countries so she speaks both french and italian as native languages.
She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory. She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today.
She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada. She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship
She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1997 if I remember well (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music).
in 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US. This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert.
But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan.
She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years.
She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace" used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera topped the charts for months.
Many of her spngs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, …
With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there.
Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA and UK are now rediscovering her.
She is Dimash's idol: I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep.
He covered many of her songs (that she wrote and performed originally).
Out of my mind I can list:
    • Adagio,
    • Mademoiselle Hyde,
    • Know,
    • Love of tired swans,
She also wrote the lyrics of his song « Your Love ».
She covered « Love is like a dream » before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva)
And they performed Ti Amo Cosi together with Aida Garafulina.
This is a song that she wrote with Igor Krutoy and performed initially with Dmitriy Hvorostovsky and Alina Yaroyava.
Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy.
Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs:
    • Floor Jansen (Adagio)
    • Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime)
    • Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie)
    • Morissette Amon (Broken Vow)
    • Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace)
    • Cakra Khan (Broken Vow)
    • Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow)
    • Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade)
    • ....
Today, she is 52 yo but she his still singing with her resonant belts, her magnificent tone, her stage presence, her artistry, her commitments to lyrics, story and emotions.
She has used her vocal skills to work around the impact of ageing on her voice.
Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara.
If you explore more of her songs, you will soon be hooked, I'm sure.

Scoring this song is just insane. It's like scoring a Manet or an opera from Mozart. A lot of English-speaking people doesn't understand nor feel French culture. They don't even know how to open their mind or sensibility. This interpretation is the " summum" and pushed that song to pure art.

Of course this performance is a 10+, one of the greatest performances of all time. Maybe you would prefer "Adagio". You may have heard Dimash sing it and during Lara's performance you will be able to tell where Dimash got his inspiration. Don't worry, it is in English. You can see a performance of Dimash and his idol Lara together in a different song. Lara also wrote the lyrics for Dimash's song "Your Love".

@@BritPopsReact It’s obviously ok to not like this song or even the performance but it’s actually considered as one of the best performances in music history by most (outstanding technique and storytelling skills, intense interpretation, beautiful voice + powerful song), not just her fans.

@@neila.5_209 Je Suis Malade was my gateway drug to Fabian. It remains the MOST ASTONISHING marriage of perfect technical control/huge technique toolbox and otherworldly stage performance skills I've ever encountered.
I was so curious about it, I tracked down multiple Serge Lama performances over preceeding decades to compare & contrast. Fabian tweaked it pretty substantially though subtly and always brilliantly: from tempo, to orchestration, to a capella sections, to phrasing. All to amazing effect. I think because she is a composr/lyricist herself, she knows what will "work." Story is all, vocal acrobatics for the sake of pyrotechnics have no place in her performances, ever.
I do admit that I'm surprised @Brit Pops React were unmoved by the song. That's unusual. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Adagio is likewise brilliant with it's meticulous, patient build to the climax. I hope they do react to it. Albinoni's Adagio has long been my favorite neo"classical" piece, and Fabian's original pop treatment of it somehow retains an echo of the source, something all of the covers lose along the way. It's gorgeous. The live band/orchestration for it in the concert From Lara From Love was particularly on point. 👍

Here's a comparison for you. Lara Fabian is like Pink Floyd. She's not just a musician... She's an experience! This song may not have resonated with you but for millions they could listen to this song over and over for hours. Perhaps it is to deep for you? If you are looking for a particular genre, Lara can do any and all of them. Scoring songs (8.2) is ridiculous. This isn't an Olympics gymnastics competition. Maybe instead of reacting to music you should try sports.

Completely agree with you. One of the weirdest reactions to this masterpiece. Could Adele sing like that ? As far as she is a good singer, I highly doubt that she could move that way and have a 16 seconds belt at the end. Brits are sometimes funny but fortunately, some other british vocal coaches were deeply touched by her interpretation and even cried while watching the performance.

Lara is a story teller when she sings. She goes in & out of what is known as “speech singing”, not everyone can do so: Dolly Parton “speech sings” also, it’s easy to be caught in the story, and sort of “she’s singing” moment that goes off in one’s mind. Vastly different ladies, different styles, different ages, but both are song writers that take listeners on a journey when singing. Dolly turned 78 & released her Rock N Roll album “Rock Star” with 30 tracks. There are 21 collaboration with the Who’s Who of Rock Stars, and 9 originals. All proceeds go to charity. Lara did a cover of her “I will always love you”, following Whitney’s version mostly. But, Lara removed the saxophone session, and replaced it featuring an electric guitar.

By heritage, Lara is Italian. Everyone want's to claim her. France, Belgium, Canada, Fabian is her mother's and grand mother's median name. She spent time in Sicily as a young girl living with her grandmother. In the Latin culture, you are what your mother's heritage is. And most don't take the fathers name. I know my wife was Portuguese and wasn't given her fathers last name until she emigrated to the U.S. And Immigration insisted she take her fathers name. Lara Fabian is the greatest female voice of this generation. And maybe several other generations as well.

Totally understandable and fair comment, however, nowhere did we claim to be professionals in anything.
We are just guys checking out new artists and music and give our honest thoughts on hearing something for the first time.
We know nothing about technique so we would be lying if we even tried to talk about that, but we know we we like and what sounds nice and that is what we based our FUN score on.
Seems a lot of Lara fans are very sensitive.
We also react to Dimash and were not that taken on our first listen but the more we got to know him and his different styles, the more we appreciated his music and talent.
Also the same for Nightwish and they are one of our favourite bands, so we maybe just need to hear more from Lara and find the right songs.
Good thing we are thick skinned and do not get offended by all the over protective comments.

If you want to broaden your musical horizons, watch some of the reactions (to this performance) done by voice coaches and singers. As far as other performances by Lara Fabian are concerned, I suggest you find a recording of her singing the song “Caruso”. She has recorded it in both English and Italian, so hopefully you will find a copy in English so you won’t have to deal with subtitles. Then I suggest you look for a video of her performing “Je t’aimes” (which translates to “I love you”) from prior to 2000. Watch that to get a feel for the song. THEN watch the video of her “Live in Paris” in 2001. That performance came at a period of great turmoil in her life and the audience response was amazing.

I've tried eight different performances, and I only find them emotionally disingenuous. He clearly has range, skills, but his attempts at emoting a lyrical story is mostly quite mechanical, with exaggerated vocal tricks, which I find off-putting. Of course, that's subjective to some extent. IMO, Dimash on his best day, would never even approach Lara's innate ability to connect to a lyric. If a song is emotional and dramatic it belongs in a musical and is not a real 'song'? "A poem or words set to music" is the dictionary definition. What I suspect you meant to say was that it does not have a catchy hook, beat, or melody and makes you uncomfortable so you don't want to put it on repeat time after time and dance around the living room. This makes it a song, art, and life changing. It is therefore not less than a song but more than and if anything needs to be graded on a different spectrum perhaps?

It's interesting your take on the song. Honestly for me the first time I watched this performance the first thing that came to my mind was Fantine from Les Miserables and the song "I Dreamed A Dream". This song was not actually written by her but by a guy coming out of a difficult relationship. But in many ways she's transformed it in her delivery into a song your expect to hear in a musical. And so it was written in a modern context. But for me the way Lara sings it out makes me think of perhaps a character in a story, perhaps a singer in a bar in a French port, who's fallen for a guy who will never truly love her back.
She is definitely one of the best at telling the story of a song and sharing the emotions of song I've ever heard.
"Adagio", "Caruso" and "Broken Vow" are other songs I'd recommend from this same concert.

Everyone has someone they absolutely adore, whether for the voice,
the presence, whatever. They will praise and defend that person to the death. Lara is a fabulous
singer. Great voice, and she sings with such emotion. That said, I've heard a couple of her songs, and while, again, fabulous, she is not my favourite. Everyone doesn't have the same criteria for their favourite.
If they did, the world would be beige.

I just discovered your channel and I really enjoyed your honest reaction. As a french, I'd like to precise a few things, the first being about Lara, the second about the lyrics. First, Lara is typicaly what we would call here in France an "Interpreter". In french, we make a difference between "un chanteur" (male) (or "une chanteuse" (female)), that you could basicaly translate as "a singer", and "un interprète" (which translates as "an interpreter" but in french the meaning is closer to "a performer"). Lara is "une interprète", which means she ties singing with a personal way of giving life to the song. As you say, it's quite close to what you would call "a musical" in english, but this is a very traditional way of singing in France that was/is used by some of the greatest french singing artits (Jacques Brel, Charles Aznavour, Barbara to cite a few). Not that many people are able to do this with most of the songs they sing but Lara does. The second point is about the Lyrics. In french, "malade" doesn't only means "sick", this is a generic word with multiple interpretations that goes from "unwell" to "sick" and "crazy/mad" and this means alot in the song. We commonly agree that as the songs goes on, the meaning of "malade" goes from a word to another (in the mentioned order) to reach a breaking point at the end, making the lyrics even more subtle and hard that it can seem at first. I hope these precisions help (and that my explanations makes sense ^^). Love from France !

Thank you for presenting this Lara Fabian video to us. I know the both of you are very honest and that is to be appreciated even if we don't agree with your analysis.
Well, I'm going to take this opportunity to be honest with you. Do you or don't you score the artist? Please tell us she should get a 10 WITHOUT QUESTION. She was absolutely spectacular! The song, itself, was a real tearjerker and the way she told the story with her voice and body language created a listening moment which captivates us and locks us in. There will always be time to watch an accomplished, great artist sing a tragic song in a way that brings tears to one's eyes. Her artistry obviously impressed Dimash to a degree that actually put the finishing touches on how he performs on stage and tells a story while he's singing.
How can you possible compare this song to another song which demands rhyme and a consistent beat? Turn on the radio for that stuff. This was a classic, a very unique one, and should be regarded as one.
I have a feeling you guys are split on this one. To keep harmony on camera I believe won out but, privately, I think you both came away from the song with different feelings.
Lastly, did you see how the crowd reacted? They couldn't wait till they got the chance to leap out of their chairs to give her a standing ovation. And, at the very end of the video when you saw Lara standing there quietly while the crowd was going nuts, I don't believe she was regaining her breath. She was attempting to come out of the song. She had been emotionally spent during the performance. And, the whole ending sequence was breathtaking.
I can't separate the artist from the song so I have to give the whole package a 10.

Thank you gents for the great reaction. FYI - Everyone knows the French song ua-cam.com/video/l826rlBOn9w/v-deo.html - Lara Fabian - "Je T'aime" (I Love you) - (In French with English subtitle). Lara wrote this, it is a must watch. Lara is famously linked with Dimash, he has talked openly about how she is his idol, and having done many of her songs, + their duets and the joint collaboration with the great Igor Krutoy. She adores Dimash btw. But her influence is well beyond Dimash - Morissette Amon, Sohyang, Diana Ankudinova and many more count Lara as a, or the, key inspiration. It seems the children of Lara are taking over. Thank you again for the reaction to Lara's interpretation of the French classic "Je Suis Malade". It is a captivating masterclass in singing, technique, stage presence, pitch, diction, drama, motion and more. Memorizing. In voice alone she is in my view the 4th member of the holy trinity and even in that group she is #1. Lara is the Queen, long may she reign, the O.G. of modern pop\concert.
Most of links in this post below are newly restored and of high quality and, importantly, all have English subtitles when not sung in English. Have fun...
"Adagio" -ua-cam.com/video/bqoS-KOLV_4/v-deo.html - is a beautiful and powerful song, a very old classical piece written by Tomaso Albinoni (most would say) which she resurrected and wrote lyrics to. Her biggest hit really, and an insane demonstration of vocal flawlessness and passion by our then young Queen...long may she reign.
ua-cam.com/video/BP2KnLemT78/v-deo.html - turn CC on - Lara Fabian - "Caruso" (In Italian with English lyrics translations) Great Song about the great Caruso's dying days with his young wife. An Italian classic covered by, well, everybody. Lara crushes it. Best version ever and that includes Pavarotti, whom I adore, so I am saying a lot there.
ua-cam.com/video/kJBGCI8aSE4/v-deo.html - Lara Fabian-Concert From Lara With Love "Broken Vow" (English) She wrote this, bring tissue.
ua-cam.com/video/mcmhCfH9OfQ/v-deo.html - turn CC on - Lara Fabian "Perdere L'amore"...Losing Love... (Italian with English subs) Another Italian classic, destroyed by Lara in perfect Italian.
ua-cam.com/video/Vv8XFXKXRLI/v-deo.html "You're Not From Here" English - Maybe my favorite Lara song. The 100th time you see\hear it will still feel like the first. Lara is definitely the deep end of the pool.
ua-cam.com/video/DuSDdjU4S8M/v-deo.html - Lara Fabian- "Mademoiselle Hyde" - live 2016 (In English with Deutsch/Português subs) She co-wrote this with the maestro, Igor Krutoy. This is the most recent of the videos (2016) and shows a maturing Lara killing it. Great song, evocative, and as always, Lara sells it.
ua-cam.com/video/l826rlBOn9w/v-deo.html - Lara Fabian - "Je T'aime" (I Love you) - (In French with English subtitle) Everyone in France knows this song. She wrote it. Two versions here. One, here in this paragraph, is a great version in its own right, the second is from a live performance where the audience takes over the song and sings "We love you" to Lara in place over the actual lyrics "I love you" and a broken up Lara attempts to sing counterpart to her adoring audience. Tissues required. I recommend doing the last one, the 2nd version of "Je T'aime" below.....last. By then, you will be in a life long relationship with Lara.
ua-cam.com/video/J309uTn8EsU/v-deo.html - Lara Fabian - Je t'aime _ with English subtitles maybe watch this last (see one up from here for "why").

So, you rated the performance based on the fact that the song is not in a genre you like. Fair enough. For the genre, it is a banging tune. Maybe you should list the genres you like so that people don't waste your time with songs you wouldn't like regardless of how good they are. Example: "recommend to me only pop songs, songs that I wouldn't mind hearing every day". That would be fair so that I wouldn't waste MY time watching your reaction to one of the best performances of all time and hearing this kind of denigrating language about it.

We were not into Metal or Country before we started this channel, but have found many artist in both of those genres we really enjoy now.
If we were to be so close minded as to only ask for songs we like, what would be the point?
Just because we didn't say we loved it on our first time hearing it, does not mean we didn't enjoy it.
If you are so close minded to only listen to artists and songs you already enjoy, how do you know what you are missing?
When was the last time you listened to any Symphonic Metal, J-Metal, Vietnamese Rapping, Mongolian Throat singing?
Are we the narrow minded ones or perhaps it is you who does not agree with any other comment about an artist other than your own.
And we actually said we appreciated the performance, it was not a song we would usually listen to but we gave it a go.
No one wasted anytime on listening to that artist, other than me having to reply to your narrow minded comment.

We understand people won’t agree and that is fine but telling us to do plumbing or accounting is a very childish remark, perhaps broadening the music you listen too in other genres will open your mind to the fact people have so many tastes and just because someone doesn’t have your view it doesn’t mean they are wrong :) happy Saturday BPR!

At least you know we gave our honest opinion and not just went along with what the audience wanted to hear.
All the best to you and don't take it personal, we all have very different musical palettes and that's why there will be an artist out there for everyone.
      Cheers

I think you will like these songs from her: Adagio ( English), you are not from here ( English), Caruso ( Italian), quedate ( Spanish) broken vow ( English), perdere lamore ( Italian). I will also recommend a young English singer ( from Wigan) : Lucy Thomas. Her last release: wind beneath my wings from the movie: beaches , is a master piece vocally and visually.

What you don't understand is that what you are calling "dialogue" is being delivered on a Master Level of singing technique. If you knew more about vocal technique and usage, you'd have a not only a better understanding but also a greater admiration for singers like Lara and Dimash. Study up on it if you plan to continue reacting to "singers" because vocal technique is 1/2 the equation & performance/delivery the other 1/2.

      @Jim & Melody Farmer video
Cheers for the comment and the feedback Jim
YT is full of technical experts on one thing and another.
We are just two guys discovering new artists and music and passing them on to people who are interested and giving our "non technical" opinions and musings as we go along.
Not everyone needs to be an expert in everything and we didn't read that criteria when we decided to start doing this channel, for a bit of fun.
Those that enjoy our channel, enjoy coming on the journey with us and discovering new artists.
If you want the technical speak, you need "The Charismatic Voice" she is much better than us two fools.
If you want the "Bloke down the pub" version, then that's where we come in
      Cheers

@@BritPopsReact I agree, I love "The Charismatic Voice", and she reacted to a long list of Lara songs ^^
As for the fans having a go at you because of the marks, this was to be expected, not like we fans are objective.
I am actually a fan of Lara, and would advise you to check the entire concert this performance comes from that I restored here :

In this concert, she sings quite a few beautiful English songs, I am sure you will prefer some of them 🙂

In some respects the translation is distracting. I think I'd rather just close my eyes and listen. Did just that the second half. Haunting voice.

If you ever fall down the rabbit hole of the Dutch show Beste Zangers (Floor participated in 2019), I really like the version of Je Suis Malade by Belle Perez and Karsu. They do it in French/Turkish! ua-cam.com/video/u2ssrv0oy6M/v-deo.html

Serge Lama wrote and sung this tune in the mid situés or seventies. His version is very very moving too. Serge Lama is a well known singer in France. Brilliant song and songwriter.

It's rather amusing to see how arrogant people are, telling you how you should react on your channel.
To them I say move along. The purpose of reaction channels is to observe other opinions on an artist or group. It's not to chastise them if their assessment isn't in line with yours.
You are getting a taste of the vitriol and venom that spews from the haters and trolls that is facilitated by the anonymity of the internet. It depends on the reacter and the subject.
They're called keyboard warriors. Pay them no mind and crack on.

Not sure if this week is some sort of special Moon phase as we seem to be getting quite a lot of similar comments, maybe we can blame it on the Moon phasing.
It tends to go that way if we don't jump around and say how great things are but you know that's not quite how we do things.
We passed on a lot of information for anyone new to Lara and said the performance was impressive just not quite our style of song.
Good job BP1 didn't go off on one!! 😂
Thanks for the positive comment, helps to keep our chins up!

Thanks for reacting to Lara Fabian. She's a fantastic singer who always puts herself in the character she performs and delivers an emotional perfomance. In the comments some already suggested English songs like Broken Vow or Adagio (her live performance, not the music video), but for a completely different Lara I recommend her duet "Requiem pur a fou" (= requiem for a madman) with the French legend Johnny Hallyday. It's in French again but there is a version with English subtitles: ua-cam.com/video/zR1rkt_0biA/v-deo.html It's an epic performance.
