    1. i love the ending when she closed people out. I just love it because I love it when that's how I was closed out.
    2. They are going through many genres and they're doing it and still selling over the decades. That's impressive.
Why Did It Have to Be Me
    ABBA
When you were lonely, you needed a man
Someone to lean on, well I understand
    It's only natural
But why did it have to be me?
Nights can be empty and nights can be cold
So you were looking for someone to hold
    That's only natural
But why did it have to be me?
I was so lonesome, I was blue
I couldn't help it, it had to be you and I
Always thought you knew the reason why
I only wanted a little love affair
Now I can see you are beginning to care
    But baby, believe me
    It's better to forget me
Men are the toys in the game that you play
When you get tired, you throw 'em away
    That's only natural
But why did it have to be me?
    Ooh
Falling in love with a woman like you
Happens so quickly, there's nothing to do
    It's only natural
But why did it have to be me?
I was so lonesome, I was blue
I couldn't help it, it had to be you and I
Always thought you knew the reason why
I only wanted a little love affair
Now I can see you are beginning to care
    But baby, believe me
    It's better to forget me

(While they are essentially a pop group)
I propose you to do this song from the same Australian 1977 recital:

For those not around at the time... It's Australia, 1977. Anna is back stage changing for the next song.. THIS is the (NOW CLASSIC!) stage performance that scorched Frida indelibly into every male brain that ever saw this. Many consider this her best ever live performance ! Ever see a girl rock a song like this? She was gorgeous, smokin hot, into the song, perfect pitch with arguably one of the best mezzo soprano voices ever, and having the time of her life!
The record crowd, all fans, were delirious! Then throw in a killer sax track !
If this doesn't get you going, you don't have it nearly loud enough, ...... or you have my deepest sympathy... (!)

Frida so sexy but not in any outrageous way. She didn't need to waggle her bottom or jiggle her tops to suggest sensuality. And what a performance. So energetic and lively. She was having fun. This sounds like the counterpart to Treat Him Well He is Your Brother which is another man sings, woman responds type song. I liked your reaction very much. You're always honest, and you don't just say good things to please the audience. Good man.

One of my favourite ABBA songs, and probably my favourite live performance. Frida really rocks in this one. She's such a show-girl. The song has a Fats Domino 'Blueberry Hill' feel to me. It was never released as a single by ABBA, but perhaps the 'Mamma Mia' movie version charted.

This is the best version of their songs and, in my opinion, one of their best despite Agnetha was on a break and did not accompany in this live performance (or any after this as far as I know as it became Frida's song). She did accompany Frida note-for-note on the album, but for whatever reason they took it in this direction which I surprisingly love.

Hi. Thanks for doing this one so fast. I think it just shows off Frida stage skills so well. While they were active a lot of people said they were only a studio band. But any of their real (most of the TV stuff is lip sync) live shows prove that wrong. So far as genre they did it all. I don't want to go on and on but a little research into the ABBA and you'd probably be pretty amazed at what they accomplished. Anyway thanks again hope you liked it.

One of the many reasons why ABBA were (and still are) so popular is that they sang in different genres, just like other successful popular groups like The Beatles, and to make each song sound like its own story. That's what makes for stand-out albums. ABBA did an album in 1979, called 'Voulez-Vous', and while there are a few disco-genre songs on it, those disco songs stand out well, because there are breaks with other genres like ballad, funk, rock and pop. A whole album of one genre can be hard to make *all* songs from that album sound fresh - and indeed (years/decades later) evergreen 😊
Just some of the genres they wrote and performed (per song) were: pop, rock, musical theatre, vaudeville, funk, gospel, emo, ballad, disco, waltz, blues, early-techno, flamenco, and schlager.
40 to 50 years later, ABBA are currently the 4th most successful act in the world, after Elvis, The Beatles (and someone else I can't remember at the moment 😉).
I'd highly recommend listening to any of their 8 studio albums, moreso the latter 6: 'ABBA' (1975), 'Arrival' (1976), 'ABBA the Album' (1977), 'Voulez-Vous (1979),
'Super Trouper' (1980), and 'The Visitors' (1981).
    Greetings from Australia 🐨👋😃

ABBAs songs are full of catchy and happy melodies; you get in such a good mood when you listen to ABBA. Their music pick you up when you are down or in a depression. Make you want to dance and celebrate being alive. The music is effortless, and yet so complex in all their different layers. In my opinion, Benny Andersson is one of the very best composers of our time.
When you really and fully understand the text of ABBA songs, you will be amazed of the depth in the lyrics and the phenomenal insights in the challenges of being human. This ability allows us to easily identify with the lyrics. I do not know of any other group that can captivate me and enchant me like ABBA. Their music and lyrics are magical.
Neither do I know of any other group that can evoke as many different and genuine emotions and feelings in me as ABBA do. This is a rare talent that ABBA have in abundance.
I go as far as to say that this talent makes their music and lyrics a real healing on a very deep, unconscious level. So, in these very turbulent, chaotic and uncertain times, ABBA has a HUGE mission.
    Love from Lena

Yeah, I think it's different for Pop groups as opposed to Rock acts. Rock artists tend to have older fanbases who buy albums more than singles. They also don't need to change style or follow trends so much. In fact the fans of Rock bands get annoyed if their favourites deviate from the style they know and love. I mean a Rock band can go years between albums when they've reached a certain level of fame. ABBA spanned a decade from early 70's to early 80's and that was a period of time when the music scene was fervent. Even Rock had several sub-genres during that period. Hard Rock Heavy Metal, Glam, Pub, Prog, Punk, Post-Punk. It was all going on with Reggae, Funk, Soul, RnB, Disco, Synth-Pop acts all having success in the charts. ABBA, in their early years, were an odd mix of Euro-folk Schlager and Glam Rock. I think a big reason that they had sustained success was because they had the talent to adapt. So when Disco was dominating, they put out a album influenced by that genre but with songs still infused by their own unique sound and Scandinavian melancholy. It's why, when even their final studio album was not as commercially successful as in their heyday, it still went #1 in a number of countries and was critically acclaimed.

I think this is glam rock influenced a bit. Rock Me actually has a Slade like vocal to me. Overwise the more progressive pop style definitely from late Beatles, Queen, 10cc and others. The schlager style is obvious in Move On.
The folk style (Benny even after ABBA did some folk) is obvious in some tracks like the track Arrival. That actually has a bit of a Scottish folk sound to it, so maybe Swedish folk can sound similar. Some Spanish folk music I heard the other day also sounded like Scottish folk music.
