    I asked a solo Facebook group for advice on what videos to use for learning the game (the book overwhelms me and I don't always absorb everything by reading), and this was overwhelmingly recommended. And watching this, I can see why! Very clear and understandable. Thanks, disembodied hands!

    I don't have a gaming group and got this game as I had heard it has strong solo gameplay. While I plan to give the rulebook a looking over later as well to make sure I understand everything, this video series has been incredibly helpful for getting a quicker idea of how things go and what to expect, especially as I have an easier time learning from visual examples. Thank you so, so much for making this series!

    Yes, but only if that is all done in the melee phase. You can't do 3 ranged in the ranged phase and 2 melee in the melee phase. Though if you can do that, then you can probably just rearrange your sequence to do it all in the melee phase anyway.

    Hi, if you like the videos then you are very likely to like the game - good choice! You can play as man cards froyour hand as you wish each turn. You could play none, or all of them. The thing to weigh up is how quickly you might end the round compared to the dummy. Enjoy the rest of the series, Rick.

  • @caseyschena
    @caseyschena 9 років тому

    This is a really big help. You should mention all the rules though. Like the reason your ranged attack can not work is because you can not use cards to boost ranged/siege attacks(I only know this because I read through the rules before I saw this.).

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  9 років тому +1

      caseyschena you can use cards to boost ranged/seige attacks, if they say "any attack". Maybe you are thinking of cards played sideways, which give Melee Attack, not Ranged Attack . Playing cards sideways is not a "boost - you can use them on their own in hand-to-hand combat :) Hopefully that helps ! :)

    This is great I have had this game for a while but never got round to playing it. Really want to but the rules are just so crazy. These Vids are a great tool for learning the game.
    I do have one question: After range attack the has attack you with 3 damage. You need to find 3 block and do this with cards. But Why do you need to generate 3 with cards? Don't you already have a block of 2 from your characters stats due to its level? Or did I miss something?

    • @rube203
      @rube203 10 років тому +1

      I'm very new to the game so take with a grain of salt but I think I figured this out. Armor and block are two different things. Thinking of "block" as "dodge" actually makes more sense to me since attacks cannot be partially blocked.
      If you have the needed block/dodge (in this case 3) then your opponent won't be able to strike you. You'll have successfully defended the attack. However, if you do not successfully block/dodge then the full strength of the attack is dealt to you.
      It's only in resolving the amount of damage this attack does that your armor comes into play. More armor, less wounded you get. However, since you first draw a wound card you'll always end up with at least one wound for an unblocked attack. But if your armor is greater than or equal to your opponents attack this is the only wound you will receive.

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 років тому

      Sorry I missed your question ! But, Chris is right. There are four distinct steps in combat: [1] ranged attack [2] enemy attacks you and you block [3] if you failed to block their attack then the enemy deals damage, and [4] you attack them. Your armour is only used to soak up damage in the 3rd step. Your armour is irrelevant to steps 1, 2 and 4. You use only "block" in step 2. Does this clarify ? Best wishes, Rick

    At 3:25 - Am I missing something? Curious why you chose to use gold mana to activate the stronger effect of Crystallize instead of using the white mana to activate the basic effect of that card. Both could give you the white mana you wanted for inventory, but the latter would preserve a gold mana in the source?

    So I'm a little confused on the moving & number of actions you can take. You can just deplete your hand without limit? It seemed to me you used two actions after moving, but I don't think I'm completely understanding the classifications. Also, with the dummy player, do you just look at the crystals based off the first draw? After you drew supplementary cards the last card drawn was green, matching the crystal, but you didn't draw more for it.

    • @ImaginaryJeremy
      @ImaginaryJeremy 9 років тому

      Also. Can you not generate enough attack to kill her between ranged attack & close? So doing 3 damage on the ranged attack and then 2 in the close combat phase to finish her off.

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  9 років тому

      ImaginaryJeremy hi,ngood question. You can't, but you must remember you are not doing "damage". In ranged combat you are trying to hit her with a missile, but if your attack is off (not good enough) then you are going to completely miss and not make any damage. i.e, the cards you play, during range an melee, represent your skill as an attacker, not damage. Hope this helps !

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  9 років тому

      ImaginaryJeremy you are allowed just one movement and one action, but you can play as many cards/skills as you wish to facilitate that movement and action. Healing is not an action, and can be done at any time except during combat.

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  9 років тому

      ImaginaryJeremy also, resolving a battle is a single action - just keep playing cards as you can in each phase. And re DUMMY, yes, the crystals only count when you draw the first 3rd card; they tell you how many additional crads to draw, that's all. Best wishes, Rick

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  9 років тому +1

      Hi, no, that's not block, that's Armour. If you do not block an attack then you are going to get hit. When you are hit you take damage. The Armour is there to reduce the amount of wounds you suffer. Block is akin to using your agility to dodge, or your sword to intercept, a blow from the enemy. Armour is what you use to soak up an unblocked attack.

      that’s cool, questions are good :) . I didn’t have enough range ... I only had 3 ; you can’t do a partial attack ... it’s more than their armour (5) or nothing! so I had to wait for the attack phase; then I can combine regular (melee) attack with ranged to do the 5 attack I need. make sense ?

      explore, line up the stars and circles, and make sure the numbers/letters are oriented the same way. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! R.R.

    Why wouldn't you just use the 5 range attack, and hit the enemy first, rather than block first and use 5 attack? Range and siege attacks come before enemy attacks, right?

      I only had 3 ranged attack; so a Ranged Attack would have failed against the Hag's 5 armour.
