    I'm 54 and just getting into gaming. We're back into lockdown right down, so in particular, 1 player games are a must try. This is a truly great play through and very well explained. Having unboxed the game, I think I still need to watch this through a few more times though. Your calm voice and methodical approach to explaining everything does you proud, WELL DONE RICK. Stay safe everybody. Covid-19 BE GONE.

    Ricky, you are a legend. Thanks so much for making these. Today is the day I finally play Mage Knight for the first time and your vids have helped me progress from 'slightly unsure and very intimidated' after reading the walk-through book to 'I get this, lets go'.
    Lots of other MK series out there now, many of them pretty good, and whilst lots of of them have more modern production with snazzy graphics and better resolution this is still by far the best resource I've found for learning MK.
    Thanks to Tom (Slickerdrips) and Paul Grogan who lead me here.
    All the best.

      After playing it 2x solo, 3 day night cycles to conquer 2 cities 5/8 difficulty, I thought I knew everything. After watching your 8 videos, I've added 17 rules corrections. lol. It's hard to convey the joy of 1p games and share it with others. lol

    Thank you very much. Very nice playthrough and introduction to the game.
    Yesterday a friend and I played this game for the first time. And it was a blast back then. The learning curve is quite steep.
    It reminds me of the Heroes of Might and Magic computer game series ... But it is better, because it is a boardgame AND a game you can play with real friends. ;)

    Great job with these first 8 videos! I've seen a lot of other people try to explain this game and your videos were the best. It's so easy to follow along with you. My compliments.
    I realize this is the introduction to the game but to me it seemed so anti climatic when fighting the monsters. I've always wanted to really love a fantasy fighting game but nothing for me has clicked yet. I think I'm going to get the Star Trek version of this game which has pretty much all the same mechanics in it.

    I was sitting on the fence on whether or not to purchase this game, seeing on the one side it is rated by many as the best solo fantasy adventure game but on the other the game is quite length and very complex!

    I bought Mage Knight on a whim without knowing anything about it. It was a good price on FB marketplace and quick google set it was a great solo game, which I'm really starting to get into. Anyways, I only started looking into the details of the game after I bought it. I was a bit daunted by all the mentions of how complex it was, etc. But man, your videos really cut through those concerns. I haven't even read the rulebook yet. But your videos have given me a great base prior to doing so. I think I'll likely watch the series again after reading the rules. Thanks a ton!!

    Super helpful walkthrough series!! Great explanations and nice pacing so new players can follow. One thing I thought I noticed though was at one point you remembered to mark down your reputation to what I thought was the last zero to the left. But at the end when you defeated the rampaging orcs, it appeared your reputation was at the middle zero. I think all that happened was the marker was only moved halfway to that last zero. No impact on the game, but I just wanted to make sure I did not miss something. Thanks!

    Great walkthrough. Would love to see you do a solo conquest. I have only played it once but man, those cities are hard to take down. I took a total of 16 wounds in 2 different turns trying to take down a blue city, I was only able to find one town in all, seems pretty hard to finish it, especially without taking so many wounds.....

    Mr. Royal, First i would like to say thank you for all of your help. If you have time, i would like to ask you a couple of questions:
    [1] Today i played with Norowas and i gained the skill that gave me another command token. Can i recruit out of turn? I had to empty spots and the skill spot allowed me to recruit with a discount.
    [2] Drawing cards:
    [2a] What to do if a card tells you to draw and you have no deck?
    [2b] Do you mark the day switch, shuffle and continue to draw?
    [3] for my action, if i lay enough influence can i recruit any, appropriate, number of units/adv.deeds?
    [4] At the end of the game, i was under the suspicion, that we can carrie our fame, rep,armor,units, skills, mana, and adv. deeds to the next?
    I will continue to search for these answers. Thank you for your time and God bless!

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  7 років тому +1

      Hi Frank. Some answers for you..
      (1) no, you must recruit at a location as your [interact with locals] action on your turn.
      (2) it depends on the context. If you must draw to perform an action, and you have no deck, then you cannot perform the action; if you "may" draw in response to an event, then you simply do not draw. e.g. if you play TRANQUILITY and your draw deck is empty then it does nothing, so you might be better to play it sideways instead!
      (3) you can buy as many cards as you wish if you generate enough influence when interacting.
      (4) no, you cannot carry them into another game. But there is nothing to stop you making up a rule to allow you to :)
      Hope this helps! best wishes, Ricky

      @dafoota3 7 років тому +1

      Ricky Royal awesome...i miss worded my first question.
      Say you have three command tokens. This first one is filled with peasents. The second and third are empty. Youre next recruitment would go to the second spot. Can you recruit out of turn meaning can you recruit for spot three instead of spot 2?
      The reason why i would want to do this is for the discount that the third command token has attatch to it for the skill of that character.

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  7 років тому

      You can assign a unit to ANY command token. So yes, you can use the discount.

    This game was just delivered to my house yesterday. Foolishly I decided to take it out and try to play while reading through the rules. After about 2 hours I packed it back up and went back to reading. These video's are fantastic though, I really appreciate the work you put into them. It is pretty daunting just starting out with all the rules and nuances to remember. I'm going to stick with it though as it looks to be a pretty rewarding single player board game experience.

    Just watched the entire series, nice work! Beautifully explained without being boring or tiresome (e.g. no endless changing of mind like some other reviewers). I had missed the rule about starting on a magical glade, so thanks! Just wondering why you kept revealing the core tiles when you knew it could end the game? Remember in solo mode, First Recon lasts four rounds (see p15 of the Rulebook).

      Andrew Swan Ah, the "reverse" is the side with the "achievement bonuses" when you are playing solo; you still get all the points for the co-op and solo scenarios, but you ignore it when playing FR solo.

    Thanks a lot for this Mage Knight series Rick. I’m very late to the party on this game, only just got my UE copy. I was a bit intimidated by the infamous learning curve but your walkthrough (which I have watched 3 times now) has given me a solid platform to build off in tackling this game.
    I’ve also started working my way through your other videos, there’s so much great content I don’t know where to start! Great to see you’ve just started a new MK playthrough also.
    One question - what are your thoughts on Gloomhaven? I was surprised to not see it in your playlists, I would have thought it was your jam 😊 (I love it).

      Hi, good luck with Mage Knight. Great choice! Re Gloomhaven: I've never played, and not sure it's a game I'm ready to pay out for... I've heard good things though! R.R>

    Thank you for this awesome walkthrough! It was very clear and understandable, an excellent way to get to know the game. =)
    I've been struggling with the temptatian to buy it for a while... it's quite expensive and I am extremely worried about the time it consumes to play a scenario. There's also lots of mixed reviews in BGG. However, it looks like pretty much my dream game: lot's of light combat, deck building, a slight dungeon crawlish elements and... well, Vlaada Chvatil as a designer. =D

    Pretty much. Even the competitive ones you can play solo and just go for high scores, like in the regular conquest. Volkare, from the expansion, adds more variability to missions. The game is not so much about completing missions though, not in the same way as other, more thematic games. This one is more like a "free-roaming" adventure, where you experience the game as it unfolds.
