Mage Knight Board Game : PART 3

  • In Part 3 we reach the end of the first day by getting to the "End of Round". Along the way we play an Advanced Action, learn about siege attacks on fortified enimies, and learn about the "Reverting" rule.
    NOTE: in my final turn of the round I played a "Regular Turn" and used my skill to move. But, during a regular turn you must play or discard at least one card from your hand, otherwise you must declare end of round and forfeit your turn. So I discarded the final card from my hand and after the dummy player's final turn I was forced to declare end of round. In a solo game you do not need to go back and play the dummy player's turn once you have declared end of round.

    Ricky, Wonderful video. I just bought the game today and read the walk through. I am playing solo, and came to You Tube to find some help in the form of a tutorial. I found this set of videos and must say how thankful I am for people like you that will take their own time to create helpful videos such as these for the rest of us.

    These are the best videos of Mage Knight I've found so far. Clear and precise and good pace. Also you explain everything well and show everything on camera so It's easy to follow without wondering "where did that come from?".

    yes it really does, thanks. and also thanks for the review that persuaded me to buy the game and helped me a lot to understand the basics and to explain them to my friends. and I can confirm this game is great. one of the drawbacks is that you can't play it with casual gamers, but if you have the right company this is pure fun

    Terrific tutorials, AND a very soothing voice. Relying on the camera mic can cause issues when stepping away from it (hollow, echo-y) so I applaud you for making sure to stay as close to it as possible.

    I think that rolling the die (green) probably should have prevented the revert, over more in the spirit of things, it should have remained green rather than becoming gold. Enjoying the walk through and the steady stream of information.

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 років тому +1

      That would normally be true Tim, absolutely. In the video the revert happened before the die-roll, so in this case it was fair. But yes, you are perfectly correct in saying that a die-roll would prevent a revert. Enjoy the rest of the series !

  • @BoxofDelights
    @BoxofDelights  11 років тому

    that's right - they are safely tucked away inside their fortifications and are non-agressive. If you attack them then you are the aggressor (hence why your rep goes down for doing so). Rampaging enemies are aggressive and a blight on the land, scaring farmers and poor wenches, hence why your rep goes up when you attack them :)

    crystals go to your inventory. But when you get 1 "mana" it goes to your player area. Also, your inventory can never contain gold, so there is no such things, effectively, as a gold "crystal". I hope this makes sense ?

    You forgot to give yourself an xp for exploring that tile. Would it have been better to not spend the two sideways cards and moved on the next turn with you ability then used your cards to try to buy a unit?

    Hey Ricky, I bought the game because of your videos and this is my second full watch through.
    I have a question about 3:16 you played improvisation sideways for a move. Was this just to demonstrate that you can play cards sideway or is there a reason you didn't use the move on the card?
    Also if anyone lives in Vancouver and wants a game PM me 😁

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  5 років тому

      hi Michael; Improvisation says you must discard another card to get Move 3. So that was the choice: play it sideways for 1 Move, or play it for 3 Move and discard another card at the same time. Hope this answers, and hope you enjoy the game! R.R.

    hi, the general rule is you can change your mind on any decision for as long as it doesn't involve taking back something which was unrevealed if your action revealed it - likeif you rolled a dice or drew a random card or token. Does this answer?

    I have a question for you Ricky. At 9:02, you move from a hex adjacent to an enemy, to another hex adjacent to that same enemy (fire mage). Wouldn't that mean that enemy engages you?

    • @BoxofDelights

    Hey Ricky, i nearly watched all of your Mage knight Movies in the past days :o
    I have questions for combat. Example Orc-Digger. First phase - ranged attack or with tis tower symbol siege attack. Is it possible to play 3 random cards sideways to genereate the 3 siege damage or do i need an "opnener card" with at least 1 siege to genereate 2 other siege damage with 2 random cards?
    ty so much i really like your videos!

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 років тому

      good question: sideways cards only give 1 melee attack, not ranged or seige. so even if you played a card that gave you ranged or seige you cannot add to it with sideways cards. hope this answers! best wishes, Rick

      nice. thanks a lot :D
      good help =) is there the same thing for block? e.g. a fire mage in a mage tower with fire damage of 6, when it comes to the first phase - ranged attack or better siege, because of the fortify status of the tower, i need to generate 6 block with fireprotection. can i create this with sieway played cards, normal blocks or only with fire protection?
      thank you mr rick mage :D
      greetings form germany

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 років тому

      Good question: you can use any combination of regular block, elemental blocks or sideways cards to block. The thing to remember is that against an elemental attack (such as fire) all blocks are inefficient (i.e. halved) unless they are of the right type be "fully efficient" (i.e. ice or cold fire against fire attacks), and any sideways cards generate regular block only (not elemental block). So you could think of it as every sideways card gives you 0.5 block against an elemental attack. The way to do it is sum ALL your inefficient blocks (i.e. against a fire attack this is all regular block, sideways cards, and fire blocks), divide the total by 2 (losing any fractions), and then add your "fully efficient" blocks (i.e. against fire attacks this is Ice or Cold Fire blocks).

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 років тому

      any type of block is fully efficient against regular physical attacks... it's only the elemental ones that make certain types of block inefficient

    around 6:40 would it have made more sense to wait till the next turn and use your double time skill to move, so you could keep the 3 cards in your hand?

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  5 років тому

      It's a daily ability, so I couldn't use it again before the end of the day. So those cards were just for using or losing before heading into the night.

    One more... if the enemy is 3 away should you not have to get a 3 where you should be? I feel you should be in the same hex... NOT a hex away .. to even do a little dance

    I think this game would be amazing if it had some kind of unifying board for all the various decks and tracks. It looks fun as heck, but something about how the decks and tracks are just placed willy-nilly feels disjointed and cluttered.

    • @BoxofDelights
      @BoxofDelights  10 років тому

      Yes, I don't like the suggested layout either. If you watch my later videos you can see I do change the layout of the game when I play beyond the learning game.
