Dude, i learn a lot from watching your vids. You clearly explain everything. I truly believe you should have your own show on one of those home improvement channels.
8:00 "safety first; but who says you cant be cool while you are safe" dude is such a bad ass! lol thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge man! you have saved us so much money so far in our rental renovation! hope to see you on your own TV show soon!
Sir, I have watched countless videos of yours. You have inspired me soooo much! My very first project this year, am going to task a new bathroom! Mainly I will be installing a new loo. Not fearing at all, because of you. Wish me luck Many thanks for inspiring and helping us homeowners saving $$$$.
Hi Jeff. Great how to videos. Please ignore some of the negative comments on here. For every negative comment on here, you have helped a thousand do it yourselfers like myself. Keep up the great videos Jeff!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY I think this is a really good video, I just wouldn't use proflo toilets. Although on the pricier side, toto drakes are pretty good, and so are kohler wellworths and highlines.
I discovered your channel recently and you’re the guy I want to watch all the time now! You are such a great professional, you should have your own tv show!
Hey man, you’re videos help me a lot. Just want to throw a pointer your direction. I didn’t read all comments so this may have been mentioned. The shark bite valves are made to press on. Little teeth inside grab the pipe and hold it in place. Clean the pipe prior to pushing it on; otherwise debris on the pipe can interfere with proper teeth grip if you will. Also the decorative flange, is actually the tool you can use to remove the shark bite valve if ever needed. You put it on backward, if that valve was ever pressed into the wall that flange could loosen the valve and cause a leak. It’s suppose to cover that yellow ring. Just a heads up is all. Awesome videos!
Thank you for all of your videos. My girlfriend and I remodeled her bathroom with your videos as our main source of information; it turned out really well
Love your videos. I thought you were supposed to tie that flange down with some screws after gluing it. Did I miss it? Thank you sir. You inspire me to do more. :)
As always great video just as a reminder to people. If you can keep the guard on a grinder. In the rare event the disk explodes it hopefully will not slice through your hand. Had a disk explode once. Guard helped me there a ton. Other than that great video!
First thing I usually do when bolting the toilet to the floor is I usually will add a small rubber washer between the nut and the plastic cap retainer that way I can tighten the toilet down till I see that nitril or rubber washer start to squeeze out and I stop tightening at that point. Next is for the Toilet Supply Line I always leave the tag on so that way in the future it's easier to know exact what supply line you may need and makes it easier for the next plumber if it's not you later down the road. Fun video though!
You make everything look so easy. I've changed the faucet in my kitchen recently. Man, if you do not have the right tools, it is a nightmare. And the drain pipe broke half the way (it was an old jerry rigged one with duct tape), got to run to the store while standing in knee deep water :D Such fun times. But it made it extremely satisfied when everything was done.
LOVE your videos! I'm a diy grandma and need to reinstall my one-piece toilet on new tile. It's SO heavy for me that I worry I won't have the control necessary to place it accurately. Any tips for those who lack strength? Thanks!
Thank you for making the video. Very helpful. I am watching most of your videos as a first time home owner, I am following exactly the procedure your are recommending and the results are great. You saved me a lot of money.
Great video as usual, but i have two comments: 1- the paper label on the flange should have been removed as it was located right at the glued joint 2- the metal washer should have been on top of the plastic one and not the other way around
I just moved into a house in Mexico and a few contractors have told me I need to put down concrete/plaster instead of the wax seal. I have changed a toilet before, but never heard of laying concrete down instead of a wax seal. One said, it was because little critters can come up through the plumbing and eat through the wax seal and provides a better seal. My question is, Is it absolutely required to use concrete? or have you heard of this before? it's so much faster and easier to just use the wax seal just like you did in this video. Also I just subscribed and love your videos! Thank you!
I always have to double check with Jeff to get confirmation or to teach me what I dont know. Thank you for this. Gives a novice great confidence. Have to ask though what if you do have water in your inlet valve line and its causing loud vibration? This is a serious problem.
Great video and thanks for sharing your knowledge and I always learn from your video...Also I think that plastic ring you glued to that cut down pipe melt to be secure with the couple of screws before toilet 🚽 seat fix to it.
Can I ask a dumb question for an amateur diy? The toilet is only secured to the pipe, but what secures the pipe to the floor? It's not just floating is it?
Awesome video. Getting ready to do a remodel of the bathroom and these videos have definitely helped me to see and do what needs to be done. Thank you.
Fantastic! Thank you for your painstaking work more grease to your elbow and more wisdom always. What sealant can you recommend for sealing the toilet to the floor. Thank you.
The last step about adjusting the water level in your toilet is important. If you don't do it properly, and your water level is too high, your water will be constantly running trying to fill up that toilet tank. This will waste tons of water. Speaking from personal experience and had to pay $100's on the water bill, as well as waste water!
Did you use the bolts that came with the toilet or buy longer ones? I am adding a flange to fit my flooring but don't think the bolts are long enough that came with the toilet
I am enjoying all the videos, thanks for helping us out! I do have one request, can you make a video of how to change from a traditional toilet on concrete floor to a wall hanging toilet including rough in plumbing, wall framing and bowl intalation, please?
What about using sealing around it? Is it possible to use a new type of Ring instead of wax ring?
4 роки тому+1
All good tips except using a grinder with cut off wheel for the long bolts. The sparks are hot and damaged the porcelain surface. Luckily it's not really very noticeable due to the position of our toilet. Maybe an oscillating tool with appropriate blade would be cleaner.
Hello, You make it look easy. I did a lux vinyl tile bathroom install and when reinstalling the toilet it is leaking at the bottom when flushed. I am assuming its because the wax ring isn't aligned. Any tips to fix it? I rather not pay a plumber $350 to install it when the wax ring is $6
Hi Jeff. NIce video. I was always wondering if there is a gap between the cistern and and wall, will it matter?? I am just curious the fact if some one heavily leans agains the cistern, will it not break? Your advice would be much appreciated.
I think you're converting me to Pex, next time I need to change something. Nice job. Haha on the bolts. You can get shorter t-bolts at woodworking stores. In Canada, LeeValley sells them.
Question for you, previous homeowners never bolted the flange to the floor, do you know what size bolt/drill bit I would need? It's a standard flange (the black plastic ones that spin) just need to bolt it into the floor.
Oh thank you. I’m 62 female and I think I can do this! Now how about a tutorial on an overlay for stairs? Do I have to cut off the nose of the stair to do a good job? You are an excellent teacher!
When installing the washers and flange bolt nut, does the plastic washer go on first, or the metal washer. You put the metal washer on first. Other videos show the plastic washer first, then the metal washer, then the nut, then the plastic cap.
About to do this in my basement bathroom. Just wondering. Is there no need to screw the toilet flange down after you glue it in. Thanks for all the videos
I noticed Jeff did not screw the closet flange into the tile and sub floor after he cemented it into place. Is it not necessary to anchor the closet flange into the sub floor?
You are handsome in that glasses, :-))) 1st, there is a toilet waiting for me as well in my basement. I wonder if toilets built with integrated tank be better than separated tank? reduce one joint and still light enough to handle. I actually did not know the exact interface between the drain and flange, thanks for the heads up knowledge. 2nd, reason I click this video at this time is your video, reason I like your video besides learning knowledge is the way you speaking ----positive. I learned from life, stay away from negative people and avoid speaking negative to let myself become negative. Louis
Will using an inside abs fitting cause more plugging issues do to the smaller pipe diameter (2.5 inches instead of 3 inches that you would get if the flange connection was glued to the outside of the 3 inch pipe?
I have a rimless toilet (flat sides). Its a challenge to lift the heavy bowl over the closet bolts without moving them. Is it doable to put the nuts on the closet bolts to the flange so I don't push the bolts out of place, and then place another set of bolts to secure the bowl?
It's a great video but I prefer to put the washer and dryer and washer on top of it I always put double washer and also I'll put a nut before the toilet to secure to the flange cuz I find it sometimes especially if there is big people and when they move they Twisted toilet now about that flange you put I don't like it a lot because it's actually reviews the size from 4 inch or 3 inch two little smaller I like all the ways to put my flunch outside the pipe not in the inside diameter tell me when you think Buddy
After gluing the flange to the pipe do you not screw the flange to the floor? I thought I saw 4 screw holes but didn't notice screwing it to the floor. Seems it would make the toilet more stable.
Hey Jeff, first off, I love your channel. I have learned so much from watching your stuff. I purchased some luxury vinyl flooring to install in my bathroom. The original floor is cheap and thin laminate (4mm) and the plank flooring I bought is thicker (7mm). Will there be an issues with installing the toilet? Should I be concerned about a gap between the wax seal and the flange?
Hi Jeff, Any chance you have a wall mount toilet install in the works? Seems like a space saver and I’m working with a small bathroom remodel and interested in your thoughts.
Thanks again for another great video. I live in a renovated warehouse where there are four units. When I replaced my toilet recently, I used the waxless ring to attach it. Now, whenever anyone in the complex flushes the toilet I hear it pretty loudly in my bathroom. Is this because of the lack of wax ring or is there any other way to avoid having to hear every other toilet in the complex flush in my bathroom?
Hi, love your videos. Your such an inspiration for DIY. Do you have a video to offset a toilet? I would like to move mine to the right of it's present position.
Great video again thanks. When the builder installed my toilets, he filled the underside with concrete, then put some on the ground, and sat it on it. Very different to your method there.

Sure a level is a nice touch. but first you must make it seal tight. A basement floor is not always level and as such sometime the toilet may be 1 degree off but I would rather have a tight seal.

Instead of a wax ring, I found a FERNCO toilet seal fitting that you stick on the bottom of the toilet and it fits in the hole. Any thoughts on these?

Love your videos, very in depth and as a fellow canadian its nice to see. I have a question, my flange was installed quite high for whatever reason so when i went to replace the toilet it rocks back and forth. i shimmed it up but im wondering if there is a better solution to prop it up
Use silicone shims or change the flange.
Thanks for videos which help us make easy.
Very glad to help. That is why Max and I started doing this.
Isn’t copper better due to its antibacterial properties?
great videos Jeff
Do you have to put caulking at the base?
Good or bad?
