“I have always loved the month of September, with its beautiful colours of gold, brown, yellow, and the remnants of green from summer.
'September Morn' was written with Gilbert Bécaud in his apartment in Paris, it was the first song Neil had ever sat down to write with Gilbert. Gilbert had attended one of Neil’s shows the night before, and asked Neil if they could get together for lunch the following day, and maybe even do some work.
Gilbert started playing a romantic melody, Neil stated he liked it, and began working with the idea, and completed most of the song at that get together.
The song featured as the title track to Neil’s well received album September Morn recorded in 1979. Produced by Bob Gaudio, and arranged by long standing band member Tom Hensley. 'September Morn' is a gorgeous romantic ballad telling the story of a rekindled love, between lovers who had drifted apart but found each other again.” - Dave Radstock

Dave Radstock's in depth history of the origins of this song, "September Morn" sets up a time and place of what ran through the musical mind of two romantic writers of the twentieth century, Neil Diamond teaming up with Gilbert Becaud of France. Recorded in 1979 and released December 22, 1979, is worth mentioning for not long after a beautiful Princess appeared on the scene at the White House's State Dinner Party in 1985. This is noted further down in the timeframe. *
To begin, we are introduced to Neil's 1979 album, "September Morn" covering Neil's headshot from 0:07 - 0:12/4:11 followed by Doug's enhanced photo of twinkling fallen leaves to set the time of year in his video.
At 0:24-0:35 we are brought forward to the future, as Neil sings, "Stay for just a while, stay and let me look at you, it's been so long, I hardly knew you, standing in the door". The various screenshots assembled by our Webmaster indicates various aspects of a woman who is involved in her career and suddenly appears in the doorway hoping to rekindle a romantic encounter that never seemed to go very far.
Then additional information regarding the two indicates at 0:44 - 0:58, "we traveled half-way round the world to find ourselves again", and once more in a detailed ghostly vision, Doug inserts a few photographs from the North American continent that moves to what appears to be Europe in conjunction with the African continent amidst the background of perhaps the Eiffel Tower or the London Bridge? Unclear but mysterious to be sure.
"And look how far we come, so far from where we want to be" at 1:33 - 1:37 whereby Doug displays various calculated equations intermingled amongst the beautiful woman's tresses that is laid out in numerous directions. How intriguing!
Then, "but not so far that we forgotten" 1:44 - 1:46 shows a path in the woods to a narrowed opening that might suggest the unknown future, "how it was before" at 1:47 where the couple is shown together in a rushed painted scene, walking arm in arm down a rain-drenched path.
* Here, we notice the image of Neil as he "danced until the night became a brand-new day" at 1:00 and 1:59-2:03 on the moon-lit terrace overlooking the calmness of the water. This certain insertion of his figure was taken from a dance with the late Princess Diana in 1985 and paired up with this beautiful woman that supports this song.
Then, at 2:06, 2:49, and 3:15, some additional videography is displayed with Doug's insertion of a picture underneath a picture (a vision of two lovers laying on the ground amongst the morning foliage of Fall after the lyrics, "two lovers playing scenes from some romantic play". The arrangement of these visions indicates a continuance of their long-awaited mingling after so much time that has elapsed.
The archway of trees overhanging along the pathway at 2:57 almost creates a bond that overflows to the lovers.
In conclusion, at 3:34 - 3:42, a beautiful but troubling photo of the woman, alone, on the ground, reliving her memories of her encounters.
Finally, 3:48 - 3:57/4:11, Doug focuses on her face only as she is overshadowed by the morning light. This unfortunately ends with the twinkling of fallen leaves preparing for its next season. So much to think about, Doug, wrapped up in a humanistic plight of love, friendship and parting as seasons come and go.

From 3:26 onwards is my attempt to slowly wind down the song. No earth-shattering message intended, quite simply the images therein were selected to achieve this with the falling leaves to close the video and it did to open it... Fall. Thank you. Best wishes.

After notifying my sister, Judy and her husband, Harold, of Doug's intention to dedicating the song "September Morn" to them, they were ecstatic. (Judy no longer has UA-cam, so I have kept them abreast of all NDC's newest videos.) When younger, over four decades ago, Judy would play that song over and over again, years before she even met her future husband, Harold. Their commitment to each other lasts more than thirty-seven years.
She commented to me, especially how vivid the Fall foliage scenery is for Fall is her favourite time of the year as is Harold's.
"Where did he (Doug) find such beautiful photos?" was one of her remarks. At that, Harold emerged from the den with a huge smile on his face as he was drawn to Neil's voice and his favourite song. They both asked about who the beautiful woman might be in the video. (Judy asked if she was Neil's wife.) You could see such joy in their countenance as they were so absorbed in the song.
A huge thank you to Neil Diamond, Gilbert Becaud, and Webmaster Doug Vyner for allowing this melody, lyrics and especially the visions of its theme to make two happy hearts one.
