Dr Mindy- I dropped 15 pounds from 1/1 through today. Primarily through fasting. Some exercise but not enough- I have 8 pounds to lose but I attribute this to your videos and enthusiasm. I preach your channel to anyone who will listen. Thank you so much- it’s been four years since I have seen this kind of progress. I am making incredibly better decisions.

    • @vincent33195
      @vincent33195 4 місяці тому +3

@@sarahandhatim hi- if you are asking me, I mix it up. I tend to do 16-18 each day during the week. Sometimes it’s only 12. But I always try for a longer fast once a week to ten days - typically it’s 24 hours. I have done a few 40 hour fasts (slated for 36 but ended up going over due to timing) but 24 is my sweet spot. I hope this helps. 😊

@@sanjam11 Hi- I’m 6’ tall. Starting weight was 197. Current weight is 181. I exercised but was not consistent with it at all. I am in a program called “The Fit Father Project” - the exercising routines consist of strength/endurance/high intensity workouts with weights and including HIIT. I have never counted calories, macros or anything whatsoever. I try to pay attention to portions and when I actually eat. I’ve cut out a ton of carbs since starting this journey. Ezekiel bread is pretty much the main carb (sometimes wine too 😉). Trying to do better with my water intake. Hope this helps!

It is really up to you to adjust all macros to meet your specific needs. This is our hard work, studying ourselves, N of 1 ! 💙
Women have less muscle than men and therefore need less protein than men. Some people (men and women) experience increased blood glucose with higher protein macros. Starting at 50 g to 75 g is a good strategy as you find your personal sweet spot. For muscle building days eat 0.8 to 1.0 g of protein per pound of ideal body weight. Remember I teach variation! So mix it up, try mixing autophagy fasting with protein cycling to stimulate mTor 💪
      I hope this helps. 😃

Thank you for this wonderful approach. Love the systematic what should I do 😂 I've been dancing for Hiit (growwithjo dance workouts) because its a lot of fun and helps me to stay more consistent than the repetitive hiit movements. And I've switched over from weights to calisthenics to try that out.
Science says that even 10 minutes of some movement a day helps with overall feelings of comfort. I think, thats important to say if someone is new to working out. Break down the steps to your goal into such little steps until you are able to accomplish them. And your steps will then just keep getting bigger exponentially from there! (Jordan Peterson)
I also wanna mention that sometimes a protruding belly isn't always just fat, but has actually physical reasons due to a wrong posture and breathing. There's sth about this here on yt and how to improve it. So if you're doing all the right things for a long time but still struggle with a portruding belly even though you've lost the weight, it could also be due to anatomy and breathing.

I do have both of your books and watch all your videos but the questions keep mounting. Like the information about adding protein to our diets slowly, you did not tell us the formula on how to do it. I am unable to join your academy to learn all the great info or how to use this information for the best heath benefits, so all I have to go on is the books and videos. It seems little bits of information are missing to pull it all together. This video does help though so thank you.

Could we hear your opinion on Botox? I never thought of toxins as contributing to fat, so it made me think of Botox ....not necessarily from a fat point of view....but how safe do you think it is?

Ok, would you please address what happens when you start to release the stored cortisol and toxins. I seriously think I am going through a lot of anxiety as I have been intermittent fasting for a few months now because I am releasing stored “crap” AND emotions from my cells. Any helpful advice on how to deal with anxiety or depression from cleaning up my cells? Thanks Dr. Mindy, you are saving my life. I am getting leaner at age 63 and my endocrinologist keeps lowering my thyroid meds because I am losing weight and my levels have gone up and my thyroid nodule has gotten smaller!!! I’m also off cholesterol medication and nexium! 🎉🎉🎉

Dr. Mindy you are one of the best things I’ve found on UA-cam. I’ve gifted your book to all my sisters and loved ones.
I’m wondering though, If I don’t have that much belly fat to lose do I still need to stick to ketobiotic first? Or should I eat 1 gram of protein per ideal body weight as you suggest? And if I were to do the latter, how many grams of carbs are recommended? Right now I am 146 lbs, 5’8 tall, 33 yo. My ideal weight is 128-130 lbs. ❤

The major premise of fasting is that we are not eating less, we are eating less often. Compressing our eating window and elongating our fasting window. The fasting window is where the healing happens. If you do not want to lose weight, you need to eat in your eating window even if you are not hungry. Eat nutrient dense foods. Lots of protein to build up amino acids. More fat, more protein, and more of nature's
carbs. Fruits, berries, bananas, etc. Eat more of it in your eating window and vary your fasts.
The decision on what to approach to guide you ultimately lies with you - you know your body best! This is why we always teach our team N of 1 and how crucial it is for you to trust your body and make choices that align with your own individual well-being. 💙

I love your videos, and I’ve heard you on the Mel Robbins podcast. I’ve been fasting for at least 12-14 hours now for several months and have been working at 16 hrs. I get there on a lot of days, sometimes even 17 hrs, and hope to get to where I don’t go below 16 unless we have company, which is rare. I’m having a bit of confusion with all the keto info and have not found any videos where you talk about post menopausal women and women long past menopause in their 60’s and 70’s. I’m 72, and whether your carb50 eating plan is ok for us. I doubt that I have any estrogen left due to my age and the fact that I had a hysterectomy at age 42, so I wonder if that way of eating works for all women, or if older women should do it a bit differently.

Thanks for chiming in. I get the belly fat convo and overall fat reduction vs targeted areas but I gotta say that being bottom heavy with store fat on hips, thighs and buttocks offer particular challenges. For me coupled with osteoarthritis in both knees I find the excess fat (weight) to just be stubborn even with IF and the low carb programs. BTW I always had an outward appearance of a flat stomach! The only thing that kept me in the “Brick House” status 😂😂😂

I just finished Fast like A Girl book and I’m doing the diet according to my cycle. I’m currently in my ketobiotic phase. I am using Myfiness pal to track my 75 grams of protein, 50 grams of net carbs and 60% of fats. My question is…do I stay on a calorie deficit to lose weight according to my BMR? Do I set my calories at a deficit? I have friends doing keto and they never count calories and they don’t lose weight anymore. Thank you for everything, I know this is going to change my life. ❤I have faith

Many people have to stay below 20... or less net grams and you can only count Net Carbs on Natural carbs... NOT any thing that has ingredients...as those are definitely not treated the same by the body... ie..Fiber wraps etc..

Hello, I am new to your program and I have a few questions that I hope you can answer. I have your book, Fast like a girl. I am 60 years old, 45 pounds overweight. I entered menopause at 53. I noticed weight loss became a real issue around 56. I have been intermittent fasting now for 8 weeks. I have lost 15 pounds. In the last 3 weeks I have plateaued, lose a pound, gain two pounds, back and forth. I fast 5 days, take one day off and then I do a 24 hour fast. Two weeks ago I did a 36 hour fast, nothing has budged.
One question, your book does not really address a vegetarian lifestyle or vegan. For someone who does not eat meat, poultry or seafood, I am challenged on my protein sources, so I relied on beans and lentils. I have now included eggs so I can get that protein boost when breaking my fast (usually 15-17 hours, I vary). Any suggestions on other protein sources? Is peanut butter OK? I am somewhat confused on when beans/lentils can enter the picture. (perhaps I am watching too many of your videos and confusing myself). At this point I feel great, but I want to drop more weight. PS (thank goodness I love sauerkraut!!)
