CINNAMON! If you can take a teaspoon a day (I have it in oatmeal every morning), it helps you NOT crave sugar. Also, instead of going cold turkey, try it INCREMENTALLY. I quit having it in tea first (I have 2 cups of tea EVERY day with milk/cream and 2 teaspoons of sugar in each). Just cutting THAT out was difficult... but once I got used to it, everything changed... and my taste/craving changed. But adding the bitter in, REALLY helps! Because often, when we crave sugar, it is actually one of the other flavours that our body needs: Sweet, Salty, Sour, Bitter and Savoury.
      Good luck!

Keto changed my tastes. I went on keto to cure my pre-diabetes, and it did that, in 3 months. But to this day, 5 years later, I am now still sensitive to the sweetness in foods.
I can now taste the sweetness in raw walnuts, for instance, whereas before keto, they tasted bitter. After keto I understood why some onions are called sweet. Before keto, I only thought of the raw ones as hot.
Before keto, I was enjoying sweet Starbucks coffees and teas every morning (which I believe caused the pre-diabetes). But the other day I took one of my Christmas gift cards and tried one of their new cold hazelnut coffee drinks, and it tasted gross -- like drinking liquid candy.😢 I could only tolerate a sip. I have put it in the fridge & I'm very slowly using it up by using it as a creamer in black coffee.
So I agree with everything the good doctor says EXCEPT I don’t think any post-keto sugar spike is going to be a major thing for me.
I attribute my permanent change of taste to the keto diet that I was only on for a few months, 5 years ago (Thank you, Dr. Berg!).

You are an over comer! And you can do it, we need to apply the same tools as quitting heroin. Do. It have it around, do not walk down the isles of the store with the sugar, do not do the things or hang around the places that would trigger you to consume the sugar.
I need to think about it the same way I think about alcohol, I quit drinking alcohol but why is sugar so hard? Because it doesn’t ruin your life the way these substances did which was much more impacting both physical, financial, etc. I found that changing the time of day helped me to cut down on sugar. So typically I would eat sugar at night, I changed to eating it after lunch instead, I told myself I can have it but after lunch not after dinner and I don’t want as much, then I changed to I can have the sugar for breakfast and at breakfast time I def don’t want as much sugar which helped me have the “non desire” of sugar. Oddly this has helped a lot.

I’ve been addicted to sugar since I was a child. I tried quitting several times throughout my life, but stopped when I had reverse reactions headache, nausea, pain, etc after tons of research, and realizing how much sugar is detrimental to your health, I decided to quit, suck up the reverse reactions and quit it cold turkey.
What I personally did to overcome my sugar addiction was: I threw out everything that would be considered processed sugar. I told my BF do not bring anything in this house for the next 2 to 3 weeks that has sugar in it. I also avoided fruit during this time. The reason I avoided fruit is because after eating a fruit, my sugar addiction was so bad I would crave processed sugar, so temporarily I removed fruit from my diet, I started eating high protein and light vegetables. It was rough all my symptoms exasperated and I felt like I was dying 😂 but three weeks later my sugar addiction was gone. I can now be around tons of chocolate or processed food or 🍩 and not feel the craving of binge eating any of it. I incorporated fruits back into my diet but I do not go overboard with it. I still will enjoy a piece of cake, but it is very rare now and whenever I do eat it, I do not feel the need or desire to binge eat process dessert like I used to.
What Doc said about changing your pallet and tastebuds is very accurate, I hated eating vegetables and avoid anything that was considered healthy. I slowly incorporated more vegetables and I wanted to vomit half the time but eventually I noticed my pallet and tastebuds changed overtime. Now I know our crave all the bad sugar and my body tells me whenever I’m eating something bad because I’ll get sick versus Never eat something healthy I feel better and more energetic.
Sugar addiction is a form of addiction. It is very hard to overcome. However, you have to do 3 things to quit: motivation, a will to quit and execute (put into action). I’ve noticed since I quit the sugar, I have several positive benefits which are increase energy, decrease joint and muscle pain, increase cognitive performance, and overall better mood. Stay positive. If I can do it you can too!! 🫡🤗

Like so many other things I've come to realize over the past few decades. The devil's in the DETAILS. And most *don't know* or gloss over the details.
Oats per se, probably not a problem. Oats THAT ARE GMO or sprayed w/ **glyphosate** before OR after harvest (to dessicate) are probably going to 1. wreck the gut biome & 2. cause leaky gut (small tears in the intestines causing spillage outside the digestive tract and inflammation.)
THAT inflammation then opens the door to all kinds of sensitivities, allergies, and subsequent health problems.
At this point I'm convinced *completely* that if we get our food right, problems will stop & health will follow.
Unfortunately, it appears we would have to grow our own food or have a trusted local source.

When I did keto, I simply excluded high carb choices like potatoes, bananas, corn ALL GRAINS, beans, etc. that switch your body over to burning carbs for fuel instead of fats. I did eat vegs like avocado, tomato, olives, zucchini, and fruit like blueberries, and for a treat mixed berries with unsweetened cocoa, coconut oil or heavy cream with stevia for sweetness. Had GREAT results!

I think you mean the TYPE of sugar. It's okay to have some fruit as it's surrounded by fibre and other important nutrients. Just don't juice it or have it dehydrated or from tins (sorry to all the preppers out there!). According to some scientists you should only have something sweet (meaning fruit or a small not-too-sugar-filled dessert) 20 minutes AFTER consuming a meal of protein and vegetables. It works even better if you have the vegetables as an entree course, 10-20 minutes before the protein. If has been shown to slow down the sugar spikes in your blood if you eat in this order.

Food domination is the root cause of food addiction. Creating food deserts so people are forced to go into town to Walmart instead of buying from farmers markets and roadside vegetable stands is one type of food domination. Contaminating gardening soil with herbicides and selling it in local hardware stores because it contains and the hay cattle eat & is covered in an herbicide with a half-life that lasts for generations, is another way of food domination so that the average person fails at gardening and is left to drive to the store even if it’s 30 miles round-trip like it is for me. Another form of food domination is when wealthy one percent lawmakers who are paid off by lobbyist create laws to make selling produce so prohibitively expensive that small stores like our local dollar stores that are close by, will lose money by selling a small selection of produce because they can’t get licensed and inspected and maintain the certain temperature requirements and washing requirements to sell that produce Laws governing what has to be thrown away, even though it’s still good food because the safety police pretend like it’s going to kill people when that’s just a hyped up lie by the wealthy 1 percent who own & invest in commercial farms… causes a food desert in my area so none of us out here can get to a fresh vegetable unless we drive 30 miles. And to further that food domination the same politicians who are getting paid off by the same lobbyist for these wealthy one percent who own these food industries and don’t want you growing your own food or buying it out in the rural area… are the ones who keep our Social Security at rock-bottom amounts that can’t keep up with the inflation prices so now there is a run on cabbage at Walmart because it’s the only thing we can afford that gives the nutrition we’re craving, even if you hate cabbage, which, thankfully, I love. And Walmart has begun rationing cabbage, and the way they put it out in the bins so that it’s a more fair way for people to obtain cabbage who live remotely instead of putting it all out at one time and everyone buying it all up and there’s no cabbage for when we come into the store. So now there’s a higher likelihood that we may accidentally go into Walmart and there’s still a head of cabbage left to buy, but usually not. And the greedy found out that everyone was circulating the tip that Napa cabbage can substitute for expensive lettuce and has more on it and then you can use the bottom for slaw and the top tastes and crunches just like lettuce for your sandwich… So they raised the price from $3.24 per head to $4.50 per head And now there’s no Napa cabbage to buy for two months that I’ve been to the store. But I can’t go to the store, but once a month because my food costs & gas costs, and other increases have completely eliminated my past budget and altered how I do everything including what I eat and what I can’t eat. So it’s not about hanging out with the wrong people who don’t support your food decisions any longer. That’s the least of the problems anymore. Food domination is coming from every corner of your life now. The wealthy know that nutrition is a huge topic right now that is trending everywhere. They also know that homesteading and gardening and other topics like that are trending. And they want to make every dime they can, and put any competition out of business and shut down any other supply to the people that they may have to get food for free or for little to no cost by growing themselves, or passing it around to each other. The price of seeds is through the roof. Now there are new seed laws that prohibit us from sharing seeds with each other. If they find out that you’re giving away seeds from your plants that you grow in your garden, you can get in trouble now. I can go on and on with how food domination is controlling what Americans eat not food addiction. Food addiction is a secondary symptom of food domination. And food addiction is because the body is so hungry for nutrition that it keeps craving more food but it’s not getting the nutrients that it needs so you’re starving while you’re overweight and you filled with sugar and starches that turn into sugars. And the medical industry loves it. The healthcare industry is so happy to keep this whole thing going that when you get a surgery at the hospital and you’re supposed to have a high fiber diet, you’re not going to get it. Actual oatmeal is impossible because it’s all quick oats, and all the fibers out of it. They give you a plate of cheese and french fries and loaded baked potatoes and bacon and eggs and the whole wheat toast isn’t even real whole wheat. It’s just brown wheat that they’ve colored with dark cane syrup as the sugar to make the yeast activate. And then there’s the whole issue with the government, faking all of the nutrition in frozen, dried and canned foods on nutrition labels. All of the nutrition information on all of our food is based on raw whole food. But everyone knows oxygen and heat diminish nutrition. The other obvious enemy of nutrition… Time. Just because of food won’t go bad in a certain time doesn’t mean it still has the nutritional value that it had when it first was created. So you may get some mixed vegetables and the frozen section and think you doing good if you look on the nutrition label because it’s got fiber and it’s got vitamins and minerals listed. But it’s already been cooked and then it was frozen and it’s been in the air and it’s been sitting out for time and now you’re going to cook it again which destroys most of the fiber that’s left and there are absolutely no vitamins left by the time that you finish. It’s a complete fallacy of nutrition. And that is food domination to make people think they’re getting nutrition and paying for it that they are not getting. And then to blame the people for being food addicts of bad food when the labels tell you that you’re getting good food, and your body is starving and forcing you to keep eating because you’re starving to death for actual nutrition, instead of empty filler and sugars. That’s food domination not food addiction. In critical thinking that is just common sense cause-and-effect logic. The root cause is the culprit not a secondary effect that creates a secondary cause/ effect. Stop food domination, and then we can work on food addiction. But you cannot stop food addiction when people are being dominated to choose what they eat in the way that the wealthy class are abusing their power. Stop supporting corporate America as much as you can. Or as we used to say in the days of hippies… Tune in and drop out. ☮️

@@elizabethcarter1175 and the healthcare industry laughs all the way to the bank. They will never accurately put a food label on anything. And that’s why so many UA-cam creators are doing so well with these videos about spending $25 at dollar tree and eating for a week. And they claim it’s healthy because they’ve looked on the labels. And if you dare comment to let people know that food labels don’t actually contain real food nutrition information, they will delete your comment. They have the public trained to not believe in food deserts because if there’s a general dollar and a dollar tree every 10 miles across the nation then how can there be a food desert, right? But just ask these stores in rural America why they don’t carry any healthy food, especially fresh produce. They just roll their eyes at you like you’re the stupid one. You might try juicing with a masticating juicer to use the fresh produce more efficiently without waste. It’s very healthy. Best of luck! 🍎☮️

I suggest "micro greens" formerly known as sprouting, since we're not getting rid of our overlords anytime soon. Any climate, use a plastic carton from your tomatoes or such, a grow lamp is ten bucks if you lack sunlight. 1 lb. of seeds is not too expensive and it takes about 1 tbsp to have a 16 oz jar full in 6 days or so. It's much more nutritious than the whole vegetable in cases like broccoli sprouts. Full how-tos are on youtube. I know you probably won't see this but for the next person in the same boat...

I read it all, but a suggestion: learn to make paragraph breaks; it then becomes much easier to read.
Food addiction/food domination: it is not an either/or, my friend. These are two sides of the same coin.
I agree with pretty much everything else you have said here as nutritional truth and I appreciate it.
I am a market gardener who, for reasons of both health and a looking forward to what is coming on the earth, got involved with small scale multi-crop cultivation starting twenty years ago but in the last ten years it developed into a full-time undertaking during the ag season, which is half the year, here in central Canada. My commercial niche is home delivery or farm pick-up of custom orders. During the winter I sell mainly garlic, onions, squashes, beets, carrots, and potatoes out of storage, as well as some products made from what I grow. I decided that since I was doing all this work to grow our own, I had better start making it self-sustaining or even profitable. I have six gardens, two of them no-tills, and a 20x50 commercial style greenhouse.
I have also, from the beginning, developed knowledge and skills in the production and keeping of seeds and have a respectable collection. In my tomato section alone there are about 200 varieties.
I know the value of whole foods and the effect on our total health and well-being, not only physical, but psychological and spiritual. I continually try to lead my family in the right direction but the power of food domination/addiction is strong.
Thanks for your comments. Remember...paragraph breaks!

Excellent video! Thank you so much 😊 I started the keto diet about 7 weeks ago. I've lost 8 kg so far. I used to have 2 teaspoons of sugar in my coffee 😯 That was the hardest thing to give up! I now take it with 1 teaspoon of stevia. I enjoy that less so I drink much less coffee every day. I don't buy canned/processed food. I cook whole food with fresh veggies, etc. and no seed oil. Olive, avocado or coconut oils. I no longer buy flour, bread, etc. I enjoyed a red wine while cooking and with dinner but there's sugar in that too 😐 so I quit. I do eat fresh fruit as I have some organic fruit trees. Whole food is best for sure but I acknowledge it's easier for me being retired with pkenty of time, than say people/parents working full time. Been there and done that. We've been so conditioned to buy ready to eat meals, etc. which is not healthy. We need to go back to the basics of previous generations.

Quit smoking 20 years ago. Quit caffeine a year ago, quit alcohol three months ago and my sweet tooth went off the charts. Just started on limiting sugars and good grief it’s absolutely everywhere. Not finding it that difficult other than it’s in every product one can think of. Great video. Tx

Yes and healthy things are scheduled 1 of no medicinal value, isn't it corrupt lol culture setup to make a person sick and detached, the worst things the norm and promoted the best the most beneficial things kept out of reach or considered bad, the truth will prevail

I get this stevia extract but its pure stevia in ingredients, start small. Gotta get enough plant based fiber

Same boat as you with quitting alcohol and sugar cravings off the charts. I am depending on diet sodas in the evening to replace both cravings (I am an alcoholic) which has really helped. I know that artificial sugar is not the long term answer, but it is the lesser of three evils! I cannot even imagine quitting coffee at this point. Bless you!

I didn’t have a sweet tooth so when quit refined sugar I had a headache for a few days but no cravings or other symptoms. My energy levelled out after a couple of weeks. The best thing I have done for myself in a while. My taste buds have changed, I enjoy fruit more and eat dates once or twice a week.

So awesome and so true. I quit sugar 2 years ago w/o some of your knowledge tips here and it was sooo difficult. I already had a farm to table diet, my own farm. Now if I eat a small square of dark sugared chocolate my tongue burns! I grow cacao and it’s not bad.. still find myself craving pie and pizza.. but my hair and skin are pretty again! Sleep well too. Support to you who are getting off this addiction ♥️! Once in a while I have a shot glass of fresh pineapple juice.. it’s awesome I don’t drink😄 alcohol.

Hi Doc, I think it's confusing at 11:27 during the part where you mentioned when we are pickling, we are adding salt, sugar and then the next sentence you say and so that is why yoghurts have more sugar than ice cream. These two sentences don't relate. First sentence is about fermenting something at home. But you used the word pickling. Pickling is not fermenting. We do not add sugar during fermenting. Then the second sentence about yoghurt, you are referring to the commercial yoghurt by big companies that are often laced with processed sugary fruits and or artificial flavors. But because of the way the sentences are all within the context of homemade fermentation, it seemed like you are saying by fermenting something at home, say yoghurt, is prone to making us add sugar in it because by nature, yoghurt is sour. Homemade yoghurt is really not sour at all. In fact it's rather sweet and not like any of the commercial ones. Normally a person who chooses to make their own yoghurt at home do this primarily to avoid buying big brand yoghurts that are indeed laced with too much sugar. We don't do this because it's fun to do, we do this because we do not want all that sugar. So talking about pickling and then jumping into yoghurt within the same context doesn't make sense at all.

I think she’s probably targeting the people who are prone to having the sugar problems, which are those who eat sugary yogurts, etc. But I see your point. That said, there is nothing better in this world than dipping a raw apple into plain Greek yogurt for dessert and especially if you put walnut halves on each bite. 😂
