That fan shroud has a part on the bottom you can remove and you can lift shroud out and not have to deal with fighting the shroud to lift the rad out.
Great video!! This helped me a ton! Thanks! And if I may add something to this video after going through the process myself: All the bolts on the left side of the condenser that are hard to get to can easily be removed simply by removing the grille and the overflow tank. The grille is held by 4 bolts while the overflow tank is held by 2. Trust me. You'll thank me later. 😁 Also, those rubber mounts should be installed onto the frame before attempting to wiggle the radiator back in. Other than that, this video is flawless! 👍👍👍
My Man, you are dead on!! I replaced mine today, watched this a few times, then read your comments... was like heck a few more minutes wont hurt. SO Easy with those out of the way. Luckily for me my truck is lifted so plenty of room under the truck.. Also, I did have to zip tie my AC Condenser to ensure it didn't fall through after carefully removing and looking at the brackets.

Thanks for making this video. Had to change the radiator in my 2012 Ram 1500 and it definitely helped. One thing to note is I was able to remove the 10mm bolt on the top passenger side fairly easy with a regular ratchet after loosening everything else.

That's funny! He says "When you grab it and bend some fins you will have issues", then he flips the new radiator around and it has bent fins, he says " bent fins are ok..as long as you don't have a bunch of 'em".
Thanks for the video, I will do mine tomorrow. I don't understand why these radiators break? Mine has a side leak close to the plastic where the electric fan connector is. I was wondering if you know where the leak occurred on the one on the video and why?

I've got a 2017 with the V6 so I had a lot of room work with. Still, getting the 12mm nuts off the mounting bracket were real tough til I got a ratchet wrench. You'll nedd it for this job!
Great video. I have to replace the radiator on my 2011 1500 Ram. It says I have to take the grille, shroud, coolant reservoir and viscous fan off as well. We'll see how much of that is true. Looks like all Saturday regardless but $100 vs $450 at the shop will buy me quite a few barley pops.

I always cut up the box that the radiator comes in and cover the core on both sides with cardboard to help protect it while putting it in. it adds 5 minutes to the job.

It's a lot easier if you remove the 13mm bolts that hold the radiator to the frame out first before you take the condenser bracket bolts out. It gives you WAY more room to get to the bolts on the passenger side.

Thank you for showing how the petcock nut starts to withdraw as you rotate it past a quarter turn. When I first tried to open it, I was worried that the nut would break if I turned it any farther when encountering this secondary resistance.
I'm glad I watched this video because the other video has the fan clutch to be removed and I'm not sure how to stop the water pump from turning to get the fan clutch off. I sure don't have a 36mm wrench either.

Good luck doing it this way without fucking up a bunch of the cooling fins. I highly recommend taping up the front of it using the cardboard box it comes in. Once it's in take it off, obviously.
So , I saw that the antifreeze coming out was orange colored, and the antifreeze going in is green, is that ok to put different type in?

Man, you need a pan/tray which can sit on the engine without risk of dumping over so you can keep your parts and pieces together. Setting them in the breather box seems like just asking to watch one or three fall while your not looking. Also those magnetic bowls are lifesavers too! Maybe a bungee cord to hold the shroud and electric fan back and up. As far as hard to reach fasteners, it’s amazing what can be done with a screw gun, extensions of varying lengths, and a u-joint between the socket and the extension. Sometimes there’s no way around hard to get fasteners. Replacing the EGR on my 06 Hemi is a royal pain in the ass, as one bolt is just behind the alternator. Next time it might be easier to just remove the alternator, but I didn’t last time and there must be a reason why. The ratcheting wrench he had is a must have. Also, a cutter for removing those plastic push in fasteners? Just keep a little piece of 1x or even a strip of 3/4” plywood to use as a fulcrum makes extracting those things much easier. My brother has an 09 of the truck in this video, and he said the radiator swap is a royal pain, and I disagreed. I do know that he replaced his clutch fan and it wasn’t hard at all. Doing that would free up the shroud and electric fan and greatly facilitate removing the old and dropping in the new radiator with much less damage to those precious fins. Kind of like how he removed some of those plastic covers, like under the truck and the wheel well, there are some jobs where a few strategic moves here and there turns a cuss fest, parts breaking, knuckle busting, patience eating pain in the butt into a semi-therapeutic automotive Remove-and-Replace afternoon with smiles all around after that satisfying job well done. I’m pretty sure he didn’t need to do the wheel well thing since he had that hose clamp tool. It looked like a modified bicycle caliper brake set-up with the caliper end changed to a parts grabber, and the brake handle part could be attached to a short piece of pipe just like when it’s on the handlebars. Voila, home made parts grabber for where your hand doesn’t fit or where you’d need two elbows. But if he had removed the fan, shroud, and electric fan, most of those bolts and the lower radiator hose clamp, the electrical connector, all of that would have been readily accessible and he could even have used a screw gun on the shroud bolts before hand and then the radiator bolts with all of that removed. He had two of those three unfasten anyway, what’s another five minutes of removing the fan bolts, which are easier to get to with the shroud loose anyway. Even if you have to remove the serpentine belt, take a pic, we all have cameras in our pockets, it’s super easy, then pull the mechanical fan. It’s totally worth it. Look how much more time was consumed jockeying that brand new radiator around that super tight space. Even just the risk or even certainty of damage seems worth it. They really do make these modern vehicles so much easier to work on than my real favorite cars, 60’s-‘71 American cars. The newer stuff, like it or not, is designed with the dealership “tech” in mind, which in turn saves the manufacture on reimbursement for warranty repairs, when a job that pays four hours can now be made a two hour job, times thousands and thousands, it’s worth it for the manufacturer to keep everything systematic. What might seem hard to do at first, I guarantee is much easier with either that special tool or following a prescribed procedure which is most efficient. I bitched about that EGR valve, but that’s because what could have been a five minute R&R was more like a fifteen minute R&R. Yeah, first world problems.

Awesome video got stuck on the brackets because my step dad ram doesnt have them I guess when someone replaced the condenser it looks very differaint. So had to wing it and just go with the flow lmao 🤣got it off tho finna put the new one on but the video gave me guidance of what to look for ❤️
You might've done your "Oh by the way" about the rubber grommetrs before fighting the radiator past all the garbage and into place. It woulda' saved pulling the radiator past all the garbage again to put the rubber grommets on. Other than that, great video.
Are those two different size tension clamps on the rad hose? I believe each end of the hose itself have different diameters.
A real mechanic would know how to remove the fan shroud. It makes this so much easier.

What happens when you break the top to one of those plastic clips you took out from the bottom to remove that cover to expose the bottom end of the radiator? Is there a way to get the rest of the clip out the hole?

Hey at the 6:04 mark your wheel liner isn't attached to the bumper. Did you take the clips out of that? I just had work done on my truck through my insurance and mine is missing the clips and my bumper has no holes for them but the liner does. The bumper is brand new so I feel like they used the wrong one.
+Dustin Fette Thank you for the reply. There should be clips that will hold it together to avoid wind or debris from ripping, cracking, or breaking the cover. They may have used the wrong one or they were not fabricated on there from the machine shop.
It seems like they figure it out as they go. Seems the way it was done was probably faster than taking off the grill but a greater chance at messing up the find. Before anyone gets bent out of shape, this is an observation and a question. Yes I have replaced radiators before, just not in the newer models.

The the same thing to put it back in, Wouldn't it make more sense to add a extra 10min to this job & remove the clutched fan & shroud??????? Then you could reach everything & no chance of damaging the fins

Wheres the transmission cooler on the gen4 ram hemi? I cant see one. Climbed all under it with flashlight and don't see one. My build sheet says it has one.
It's one piece with the ac condesnsor I'm sure you've figured that out by now but I just found out.
How much colant is needed
I have a 2016 dodge ram I replace the thermostat upper radiator hose and cap .The upper hose get hard the pressure so much it pulls the hose to the bump on the radiator never over heats oh the thermostat is 203 degree factory is this normal truck has less then 40.000 miles on it

Why not pull the e-fan/fan shroud completely out for more clearance?
lot of hassle, so save your time!
I really hate how they made the fan shroud one piece unit I remember the old 80s & 70s were two pieces uper and lower that bolted together.
