Hello and welcome to Old Ways Gardening and Prepping.🍀 Would like to welcome you each to my backyard in the main herb garden. Today we are going to be talking about a important and easy to grow medicinal herb called Toothache Plant aka Spilanthes acmella.
This is one important and potent little plant. It has many medicinal uses and today we will be making a tincture with it. Later on towards the end of my growing season for this plant will teach you another usage for it.
Let's delve in to it's amazing medicinal usages. This little plant goes by many names as: jambu, toothache plant, Electric daisy, Para cress, buzz buttons schezuan buttons to list a few names. Toothache plant is native to South America and believed to be of ancient Peruvian origin, and is part of the Asteraceae family commonly referred to as the aster family. It can grow up to 1-2 feet tall as well as wide, needs well-drained soil and full sun. It has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-septic and anti-inflammatory properties making it a herb to use for disinfecting wounds, treating painful canker sores and treating ringworm infections. It's other healing benefits are for gum infections, inflammation in the mouth, sore throat, stomatitis, toothache and wound healing to list a few other ailments. Hope you will also do more research on this amazing plant and remember to be leary of any herbal information from medical websites.
Hope this video encourages you to also grow your own Toothache plant and or put the seeds on your seed buying list for next year. If you have any questions please feel free to ask them in the comment section below I will answer them as soon as possible. Everyone take care and have a blessed day.
    Blessings,
    Teresa

I grew toothache plant this year and wanted to make a tincture. Googled to find information and you came up. I should have just looked on your channel since that’s what I usually do since I’ve been subscribed for a while. ❤

Hi, so glad I found your channel. I’m learning about healing herbs and growing some now. I’m looking forward to planting my medicinal cottage garden this next year and adding some great things to it. I have grown the Toothache plant this year. I’ve been looking for some information on how many buds to put in the jar and have only seen to use 100 proof vodka I finally found some at the local store. I love the honey whisky and will be on the hunt for that. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!! I looked forward to learning more. Thank you, take care.

Personally found through trial and error that whiskey just works better for toothaches. Love to grow the toothache plants for their beauty and medicinal benefits. Your welcome and more than happy to help teach as many people as possible. Take care and have a blessed day ahead.❤️🍀🦉

Teresa- could you point me to a good brand of seeds for this plant and also tell us the amount of flower heads that should be in a jar? Like 1/2 or 1/3 of the jar and the remainder alcohol?

I finally strained my toothache plant tincture yesterday and was curious of the taste of the final product. I used 100 proof vodka because that's all I had and used the plant down to the roots. What did I do? Swallowed a good sized spoonful. If you could have been here to see it, I'm telling ya you would have died laughing😂 It caught my breath for a second and the oh mercies were flying outta my mouth hahahahahahaha. The effect was quite a bit stronger than eating a flower bud which surprised me and even my lips had that vibrating feeling for several minutes longer than I expected. I'm just waiting on hubby to tell me he has a toothache again. Boy do I have something for him LOL!

Ever since they gave me crowns I have trouble with infection every so often, yes only the crowned teeth!
Not going to the dentist anymore for years, they do not fix any problem, just create new ones, mho.
I didn't just want to numb the pain, so looking up what that cute plant does besides numbing. So far lots of vit C and potato slices to the infected area works, but I have toothache plant.

Good afternoon darling and so happy to see your comment. Hope you have been doing well. Yes you can add some of the leaves as well. Definitely not as strong as the flowers but do have the same medicinal benefits. As their growing season comes to a end plan on doing a video on making a infused oil with the leaves. The infused oil will be wonderful to add to wound salves for pain relief. Have found out a long time ago that the honey whiskey works better in toothaches from personal experience. Blessings and love as always from my home to your's dear Sister. Take care and have a blessed day ahead.❤️🍀🦉

Good afternoon Red and happy that you enjoyed the video. Have to admit that I have been holding on to that honey whiskey for over 8 months since Tami sent me the seeds for the toothache plant.🤣 It will work in vodka as well just will have more if a kick to it. Since my growing season is longer will give you a heads up. Later on as the frosts come closer will be harvesting the smaller stems and leaves to make a infused oil to add to salves for pain relief. It works wonders added in to wound salves. Good to see you comment have missed them.❤️ Hugs and love sent to you as always. Take care and have a blessed day.❤️🍀🦉
