not only the flowers but also the laves are a natural source of a mild aesthetic, normally used for mild numbing of the mouth, gums, teeth etc. Ive been growing Spilanthes for years now and currently started to make extracts to see if the same numbing effect can be used topically
What timing Luke!! I was just telling my God daughter about this plant today. (Wisdom tooth!) Baker creek rare seeds has them 75 for $2.50 plus shipping. Waiting for payday. (Sad, huh? Lol) You must have been reading my mind to make this video today. Blessings! Oh, and I used to wash and peel normal (not baby) carrots and give my son for his teething. Like a big chunk (half the carrot) that he'd never be able to do more than gnaw on. I kept it in water in the fridge. The first child teaches us parents so much!
jacrae21 This channel will not disappoint!!! I just started gardening this year and I'm not sure what I would have done without MI Gardener!!! Or to mention what my garden may have looked like😵😂!!
Me, too! Actually, I started about 3 years ago with green beans, peas and cherry tomatoes. Did well, so the next year I put in asparagus and brussel sprouts. Did it all without looking for advice online. When asparagus didn't produce right away, I went online. Found out asparagus takes a couple years to produce. I found this channel back then and the videos have been very helpful in other things I have tried to grow. I guess now it's time to decide what plants I'm going to focus on so my garden doesn't become bigger than my yard! So many great plants! Good luck with you're garden.
Thank you. I just found out about this plant. Between my family and my husband's, we have several adults with tooth pain problems. I think I'll be growing this plant next spring as it has uses other than for tooth pain and no known adverse effects when taken in moderation or as a topical/poultice type remedy. At the very least, I can have a natural remedy for the family's tooth pain until they can get into the dentist office, something other than orajel! Thank you, again.
Hey I got these seeds from your company i started them in my growtent . They spread alot so cool and I actually needed it this spring and chewed on a leaf and it helped 😊Im going to make a tincture with flower heads.
Thanks for the great growing tips, much appreciated. I grew it for the first time last year from seed and can attest to the fact that the plant does not like wet feet. I over watered my plants in autumn this year and they died, but thankfully I harvested enough seed from the plants before that, so when it is spring again (september down here in South Africa) I will be planting the seeds that I harvested.
I wish I would have known this when my little one was teething!! I always gave her a frozen waffle or frozen bagel and hoped for the best lol!! But for sure going to try this!!! I Love that u r talking about herbal remedies!!! Ty😊💕
I would never give this to a child it does work at numbing but the drooling and the my calls panic I've grown this and have grown it from seed that I've collected from my own plants
Interesting video it's always great to hear natural remedies. A grow guide on harvesting echinacea would be awesome to help with the up coming cold season...
We grow two essential herbs for our area of the country, where living with respiratory issues due to mold, pollen, and pollution make it so that there is an allergist on every corner. Those two herbs are goldenseal and hyssop. Goldenseal is very easy to grow yet very rare and costs a fortune to purchase in health food stores. Hyssop is good for just about anything. We have other medicinal herbs that are more flavoring than medicine--oregano, thyme, marjoram, mint, etc.
I gave my babies honey wheat pretzels with salt to gum on. The combination of the hard pretzel along with the salt helped with the teeth breaking through, salt also helps with healing mouth sores. My babies were never in pain with teething because I would give them the pretzels when they were able to grasp and has on them a couple time a day. But I can see how this plant would be beneficial as well.
It is an easy plant to grow and needs little attention. Leaves can also be used and taste better than the flower when chewed. Using in a tea works also. Also it takes to trimming nicely.
Is it a houseplant? Can I keep it as such? I’d never let that plant die, never! Ah…I made my comment to soon…Ty for answering that question in your video!!
Hey luke, have you ever grown guavas, starfruit or cherimoya? Ive eaten all three and the cherimoya and the guavas are best (for me) when frozen so I can eat them like ice cream. Highly suggested!
I grew these from seed this year and they certainly spread quite a bit. Not sure that it'd be a good idea for a young toddler, as they are super tart and open the saliva flood gates. I gave one to an unsuspecting friend, who freaked out. We joke about it now, but at the time he wasn't too thrilled lol.
I have grown them in the past and love this plant. In answer to your question yes, they dry very well and maintain there potency well. The only real problem I have had is at the end of the season when I bring them in they always seem to develop a problem with whiteflies. Haven't been able to figure out a way to avoid or stop the problem. I have just decided not to bring them in and just grow from seed the following year. Good luck this is a wonderful and fairly hearty plant. If you have one freeze drying works well too.
I chewed a leaf when I grew this years ago and it did have a strange somewhat kunming effect. I just started more this year. Been a while and sorry but it is a late reply. Honestly never tried the flower. It was a neat flower tho. I grew mine in lake soil and it did ok. Probably way better in good rich soil. My seeds came from Baker Creek.
I accidentally left some carrot seeds together for and was hoping to grow them out in my green house but I forgot about them and now most of them are mutated with each other (connected to each other caus the ground was too small), can I still grow them still? or is it too late for them? :/
Is it a bad thing that i just plant the seeds of the plants i wish to grow in my backyard, water them once, then leave them? I only grow seeds from wild plants that grew well, so it's usually fine, but should I bother putting extra effort into them to domesticate them? Or would that just take away their natural adaptability?
How do the bees like this plant? Some people say bees love it. But I can't find much information online about bees enjoying it. Anyone have experience with the bees on these?
I have been thinking about herbs and other plants to grow next year for use with liqueur infusions and homemade bitters. Do you have suggestions and/or resources for homegrown plants for such endeavors? My wife and I have a home garden in Chicago.
Jeremy Neander how is you garden doing in Chicago? I had one in Delaware for 3 yrs and it was plentiful. I had over 40 plants. I’m struggling here in Chicago to where I’m ready to give up.
the eyeball plant is it really cool plant but I have ate those flowers and although they do numb if it was like sticking your tongue on a 9 volt battery for like 10 minutes
I love to make the tinctures and balms too. Pine sap pulls toxins out. Of skin. And charcoal also. But for cysts and what needs to be pulled out - pine sap. Everyone needs to know these things
Great info Luke. Can't beat natural, gotta try this out. Thanks for helping to push the natural way my friend 😁

Did it work
Yeah, did it work?
Glad to know it was at least aesthetic. But did it numb some nerves too, that's the question.
I have started mine from seed. Thank you for this info on the care of this interesting plant.

Hi Luke, Really enjoy you videos. Keep up the great work.
Do you think this one would grow well indoors during summer as long as it's in a south facing window?
Oh heck yes! They grow awesome indoors as long as they get good light.
Grow clove. Best toothache remedy
Is it a houseplant? Can I keep it as such? I’d never let that plant die, never! Ah…I made my comment to soon…Ty for answering that question in your video!!
Hey Luke my peppers are turning black do you have any experience with this. Anything is helpful
They are probably ripening. Most will turn black before turning red.
Thanks for the video!
So good - so amazing videos😊 love them🌞
What about from seed?
They’re for sale on eBay!
Good vid! Was thinking about growing one of these!
Luke, another great video. Didn't know about this plant! I sent you an email looking for guidance on my home garden, hope to hear from you soon!
Hey luke, have you ever grown guavas, starfruit or cherimoya? Ive eaten all three and the cherimoya and the guavas are best (for me) when frozen so I can eat them like ice cream. Highly suggested!
I live in Texas, any suggestions?
Is there a way to propagate these plants?
Hi there, could you please give me some advice for weeds in my container garden? Thank you
Sounds like a useful plant to have around... :)
twocvbloke that's what I thought. May have to plant one myself
Hey how do you use this for a teething baby? Did it work good for you? After trying a flower I believe in the numbing properties of this plant!
Just Planted some. I really hope they like very full sun cause thats what they get.
Can you do a video on growing edible or nonedible gourds?i would enjoy it
osem video luke if I ever find a plant like that I well remember what you said
Hopping on this video 2025. This herb is so expensive since it’s all the rage. Definitely going to have to grow it myself

Luke, can this plant's flowers be dried and storied for latter use ? Great video, love them all take care.
Absolutely they can. Commonly used as tea, but just be aware that it loses strength and is best chewed fresh.

Question I've heard you can chew the leaves to do the same effect as the flowers. Do you know if this is true?
I have heard this too, but I am not positive.
Is this a perennial or an annual and what zone would it be maintainable as an annual? Also what zones for a perennial, this is important.
Saddle Ridge google it

Do you offer these seeds in your website?
If so under what name or category?
Thanks
You can buy the seeds on Ebay. I just ordered package today for $1.89 for 100 seeds.
That's such a great idea! :-D
5:30 did u see that 😅

When I saw the title I thought you were going to show us how to grow marijuana! Haha
My grandpa has his own business doing this and extracting stuff from herbs
I bet he knows a lot about herbal medicines. Good! They work. And these days they are going to be needed by many.
I love to make the tinctures and balms too. Pine sap pulls toxins out. Of skin. And charcoal also. But for cysts and what needs to be pulled out - pine sap. Everyone needs to know these things
Can gave some seeds
This herb is an aphrodisiac too. Check the male rat studies on Pubmed!
But, is it safe for such a young child?
Please don't say you prefer the natural way, until you didn't try the deathcap mushroom. I'm tired that everyone associates natural with healthy/good
