Fully agree. Yuri and jakubs schtick ran thin for me a couple of years ago. Mark and Jack have such a unique style and the detail of the reviews is 10/10. Quality doesn't go out of style.
A couple years ago I thought pipes would be great forever, but I've noticed some things. The honesty and realness is being replaced by less desirable things. And the amount of sponsored content has ballooned. The type of stuff mark has said no to, even though it would get a few more clicks.

I have a LS460 and an LS460L I bought new Lexus RUINED the LS with the LS500, I have gotten them as loan vehicles at the dealer and they are terrible, I actually started asking them for the ES350 as a loan car. The new LS500 has heavily bolstered seats compared to the LS460’s nice flat bolstering, the LS500 has a harsher ride, the controls and menu system is ever worse, the heated steering wheel and heated seat was on and it took me a while to figure out how to turn it off. The mark Levinson stereo doesn’t seem to have as good sound. OH and the biggest slap in the face for the LS500 is the legroom. My 2017 LS460 SWB has more legroom in both the front and rear. The lack of a V8 is the least of my worries with the LS500. I think the LS500 was supposed to have a GS label on the back and Lexus said “nope we gotta have a top of the range model” so they canned the GS and slapped the LS badge on this junk. I’m not sorry either, as someone who has been in and around the LS400, LS430 and owns 2 LS460’s this LS500 does very little to attract existing LS owners. Don’t even get me started on the interior, it’s visually beautiful but they got rid of the high quality parts, the whole center console moves around and creaks, the steering wheel is a pathetic excuse of an “update” from that amazing steering wheel in my 2017, the plastic fantastic tablet looking screen sticking out of the dash is just waiting to be ruined by the sun, oh and they took away the most iconic LS feature, the tinted gauge cluster and replaced it with some tiny small lettered cheap screen. When you have the drivers seat all the way slid back you don’t have a door armrest. I’m 6’2” and my head touches the ceiling in the rear seat, in the LS460 I have about an inch to spare. The LS500 is an automotive design joke and a disaster of a car! Something most people don’t get, when you buy a LS you don’t really care about HP or 0-60.
I have a 17 Ls460 and been itching for this new one for a while …But i’ve read so many comments similar to what you are saying which is not a good thing. I am 6’2 as well and i almost touching the roof of the Ls460.
As soon as this car became a highly optioned AWD/RWD longitudinally mounted V6 Avalon, I lost all interest. How can this be a true luxury car without a V8, as a minimum? As is, this car has too many shortcomingss with cheapness in its appearance inside and out, a 7/8th effort. In relation to the LS 400, 430, AND 460 this car has too many shortcomings in relation to the competitors at this price point.
I have a 2020 LS inspiration series. I owned a few older LS. The LS is asboutly the most reliable best built Luxury sedan in the world. The V6 Twin Turbo is a fantastic engine. Yes,it’s not a V8. But just as good. Has a mechanic for 30 years. I worked on many foreign vehicles. And I have to say Toyota/Lexus are no doubt the best built vehicles in the world. I watch a lot of these reviews on different vehicles. And I have to say most of the people doing these reviews don’t know the inner built quality of the cars they are reviewing. So naturally they sound like they know what they are talking about. Sadly they really don’t.
@@12ealDealOfficial Not really. When you drive a Lexus for a while you'll get used to the mouse like controller so it doesn't really need a touchscreen and being further away is easier on the eyes, less refocusing between looking outside and glancing on the screen.
Refreshing to see a car not focused on "sport". Some folks, me included, don't always want that and would prefer to be coddled. I've always thought it was a mistake for manufactures to focus on sport at the expense of comfort, most folks don't want or need that (and I own a Corvette).
Test drove one of these. Agree 100%. Drivetrain just isn’t what you should expect for the price. Real shame. Might be the nicest car in the world, but for that.
Awesome video as usual SG. Can't wait for the video on the IS500. Hoping that will give me insight on whether I want to go for an IS500 or a used RCF/GSF. Thanks for all you do!
I can't wait for the IS500 to finally hit the streets. There are so many competent sport sedans on the market. That N/A V8 should sing in a world of crackles and pops
BMW has checked in. :D In a couple of years, the front will be all grille with the headlights just inserted in randomly or moving up into the hood like the stupid SUVs with split DRL/lights now have.
Exterior reminds of the cheaper ES everytime I see one. Cost constraints on a $100k plus luxury flagship car when it comes to the suspension is disappointing Okay Lexus. The overweight GAL platform is a dud compared to the Germans wether its the LS or the LC. No NA V8 is also a bummer. This was a emergency refresh and the tech is still dated.
The bad tech is the thing I can't forgive. A company Toyota's size should have world class tech instead of the mess they have. The steel suspension parts are fine on a pure luxury car. As Mark notes, they really can't be detected in the cabin. The Europeans have sportier versions of their big cars that would benefit from aluminum suspension parts and less weight overall, but Lexus has gone all-in on luxury with this, and also kept the price down by doing things like that.
11:00 what’s wrong with a couch on wheels???? THAT’S WHAT THE H3LL WE WANT!!!!!!! What do you “think” we want a stool on a pogo stick or something?????????
Yesterday, I test drove a brand new 2023 LS500 at a LA/OC Lexus Dealership. There were some very strange things going on, and this is coming from a current owner of a LS400 & RX350. First, the gas pedal travel is less than half of the travel of every car I've driven. 2nd, mash the pedal down and nothing happens momentarily, then the Twin Turbos spool up, then the speakers create a fake engine sound, and finally the car accelerates. 3rd, the run flats are 45 Profile, that's not much profile, and it is thicker to be able to run flat. 4th, there's a high frequency vibration, nothing in the standard shocks cuts it off. No air shocks. 5th, I drove the exact same route with my 2009 Camry Hybrid, and my Camry was 10 times more smooth. No high frequency bump feel. Ok, ok, please explain to me that this isn't the reason that Lexus sells about 200 LS500 per month IN THE ENTIRE US COMBINED. A Camry or RX sells 30,000 units/yr in the US. Now, I don't need the missed V-8 to trade that for mpg. But the ride? What is Lexus doing here with the ride? After changes in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 & 2023, that's 5 separate shock/damper changes which all failed. Lexus, I came to buy, I left disappointed. Why? Is dismal sales of 2,000 units/yr better than fixing the real problem: no runflats! Lastly, the Prius gear shifter is mind-bogglingly confusing in an emergency, almost to the point of being dangerous (in a Lexus). Danger in a Lexus, come on?
Why does a 70-100k sedan not have a v8 option and simpler v6 mechanicals not to mention a real gage cluster not borrowed from a motorcycle…a gold wing has a larger display for heavens sake
i have 2 older lexus cars... a 2004 GS300 and a2012 LS460.. they still look great and run great. I won't be giving them up anytime soon because these newer cars over the last several years look fugly! those front ends look like ass! Hideous! Good thing these things are built like tanks so my cars will last for a while!
The chassis has more steel than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7-Series. Who cares?! The LS500 won't be an endless money pit after 5 years like the German competition.
I personally think Lexus in and out make awesome quality cars, but the only thing holding them back is the Infotainment/center console from what I've seen. They need to update the track-pad, camera quality, UI and touchscreens for all models. That's what I personally think is holding them back in sales! Wonder what Lexus will look like when they redesign all the cars... But yeah most of the complaints is the interior not necessarily the materials.
I feel the same way. But at the end of the day I can still imagine owning one despite entertainment not being as intuitive. Build quality, exterior design and cabin design are top notch. I used to adore BMWs but recently have come to realise that they have become simply too generic. The Lexus design is more unique and I can live with interface design that needs getting used to, as long as I have buttons/kobs for volume aircon etc. Build quality is worth more than infotainment.
I have a 250k mile LS460 that rides like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Interior and exterior too. However, when its time to part with my LS460, I'll be going with a Genesis G90 over the LS500.
I think they fumbled it with the engine choice, I'm very disappointing especially because it shares a platform with the LC, why not use the same engine, or at least a V-8 at the very least
@@2AbleFly Yes there was no reason to completely dispose of the V-8, that was a sweet motor... and that was probably one of the biggest selling points, and it is just a disgrace to this car's inception and initial success.... putting a V-8 in this car made it everything it is today especially if you go back to the debut model, With the wine glasses on the hood

Love this car. Headroom is an issue in many Lexae, the seats don’t go down far enough. The next G90 might be a more serious challenger with tech, styling, and massage seats.
For sure it´s nice, but we had two IS 250, one 2010 and one 2014, both black F-sport and the 2014 with beautiful BBS alluys. We have also rented a is 300h for two weeks and here is my conclusion. Overrated. They are so unpractible, slow and is not steady on high speeds and also have high fuel consumption (is 250). Now I own a Passat B8 with full R-line (eu version) and it´s nicer in every way. And it´s a Passat. If you are going to get a IS, get the 350 at least
It’s a shame that they ruined the beautiful dashboard design that the previous generation had for an infotainment system that still lags behind the competition.
Why does it Need a V8 When it's Got A More Power Twin Turbo 6? I don't understand, look at Mercedes AMGs going (similar size) to 4 cylinder turbos. Sorry but what a stupid title it has TWIN TURBO'S
Great review. No nonsense with practical advice and observations. I agree that Lexus and Toyota are behind competitors with respect to infotainment. I have considered both brands in recent years but have turned elsewhere because of their poor infotainment. At my age and with my current tastes, I haven’t liked the numb feel of Lexus either. BMW has been my sweet spot brand. As I age I may desire a more isolated experience and will consider Lexus. I believe Lexus beats most of it’s German competitors in reliability. That is important. Scheduling preventive maintenance isn’t disruptive to your life but having maintenance thrust upon you can be chaotic.

@Nomen Clature maybe so but that’s going to leave the 2nd owner with problems
I wouldn’t be concerned about reliability though. This is overbuilt and still Lexus quality. Much better than your favorite Chrysler.
@@alh06 no, youve just been watching too much drunk kilmer. any 3.6 5.7 or any engine fca makes thats not a turbo will outlast this lexus. ramming air into a gasoline engine is unreliable no matter who makes it. again, this engine wont see 300k without costly repairs. it just wont.
@@Natethegreat200c true buddy ! Before toyota used to maintain higher service intervals and reliability by making them as simple as possible ! Naturally aspirated v8 + transmission with lower no of gears ( compared to today's 10 speed transmissions that leds us down) but at the same time add innovations that won't harm longetivity such as KDSS ( in land cruiser) ,steering assist , crawl control etc! Today they jost lost It ! My fortuner's 1grfe v6 led me down after 40k-50k with problems in oil rings , heads and ignition coils, though the engine is bulletproof and I had completed 105k miles! These blind Kilmer desciples and toyota fanboys won't agree that new toyotas are facing reliability issues! Regards from australia !
A couch on wheels is what I want. The whole V-8 thing is goofy to me, are we really ready to give up reliability like this? Meaning having a twin-turbo engine, I prefer reliability at least for just a little bit longer. The looks for me is that it's unique and special. The LX570 is a goal for me and so is this....There, I said it. Awesome review as always.
Real men want V8s for that sexy 8 cylinder uneven firing order sound, women and low testosterone guys want V6 for "rEliABiLiTy" as if the Previous V8s werent reliable. Lol dummy
I would like to know what the relationship between Savagegeese and Straight Pipes is. They give each other shoutouts seldom, but they are VERY different review styles (I've actually grown to like Straight Pipes less and less due to their clickbaitiness).
Mark, can you share how your relationship (if any) looks like?
Fully agree. Yuri and jakubs schtick ran thin for me a couple of years ago. Mark and Jack have such a unique style and the detail of the reviews is 10/10. Quality doesn't go out of style.
@@bassandtrebleclef What about Throttle House?
A couple years ago I thought pipes would be great forever, but I've noticed some things. The honesty and realness is being replaced by less desirable things. And the amount of sponsored content has ballooned. The type of stuff mark has said no to, even though it would get a few more clicks.
@@benjaminsmith2287 Actually my favorites are Savagegeese, Throttle House and Redline reviews. Each have a bit different perspective, Throttle House can be sometimes hit and miss but generally pretty funny. They've not uploaded much lately though!
What about demuro and parker?
Thank you! As an LS430 owner, Everything you explained is what pisses me off about this car
Downsizing: It's over big engine ! I have the high ground !
Big Engine: You overestimate my CO2 emissions !
Sadly they really don’t.
i got a leased 2018 LS500, the twin-turbo broken just before the lease ended, the 5g LS is least reliable one
More people would purchase the Lexus LS if it had a V8
Sublime content. Great to see you flying solo Mark.
Jack was like "uh no, I'm not touching it. Too much quality!"
Miss Turbowski.
@@ljc1821 Too Japanese. Too Lexus. Too soft.
This white interior is so pristine that i had to clean my touch screen to help make it nice 😭
every time I watch your videos, I'm astounded at how well you're able to take compelling photographs of cars
Damn. Most complicated engine and this will be the only engine for the tundra and land cruiser. What is Toyota doing?
trying to bring their mpgs down. At the cost of the v8 although which sucks.
Better question is what governments are doing with those stupid regulations.
Planned obsolescence
The tacked on screen is a step back.
I'm afraid they'll implement it on the LC 500 come facelift time.
The main question is: can it be removed or covered up?
@@12ealDealOfficial Not really. When you drive a Lexus for a while you'll get used to the mouse like controller so it doesn't really need a touchscreen and being further away is easier on the eyes, less refocusing between looking outside and glancing on the screen.
@@olafvanes which is better controller? Lexus or the newer Acura?
come on lexus, dont force twin turbos on those of us who want long term reliability. Your turning into turbo loving ford
Refreshing to see a car not focused on "sport". Some folks, me included, don't always want that and would prefer to be coddled. I've always thought it was a mistake for manufactures to focus on sport at the expense of comfort, most folks don't want or need that (and I own a Corvette).
Notice how in order to luxuriate over the car you focus on abstract detail shots and skip past the "it actually just looks like this" shots? Says all.
Test drove one of these. Agree 100%. Drivetrain just isn’t what you should expect for the price. Real shame. Might be the nicest car in the world, but for that.
got goosebumps after watching the intro … the editing is so beautiful
Awesome video as usual SG. Can't wait for the video on the IS500. Hoping that will give me insight on whether I want to go for an IS500 or a used RCF/GSF. Thanks for all you do!
I can't wait for the IS500 to finally hit the streets. There are so many competent sport sedans on the market. That N/A V8 should sing in a world of crackles and pops
wish they would just go back to the classic 90's grill instead of continuing to shove that giant thing in our faces
BMW has checked in. :D In a couple of years, the front will be all grille with the headlights just inserted in randomly or moving up into the hood like the stupid SUVs with split DRL/lights now have.
I really love your reviews. So detailed. Even the music in between. 😊
12 minutes into the video and I’m like I have zero interest in this car, yet here I am, still watching... 😂
Mark just produces good content...
They absolutely ruined the cohesiveness of the dash with that new touchscreen and gauge cluster.
True, but they improved its function 100%.
This Turbo V6 is going to be an option in the new Tundra, I’m curious to see if it can live up to the expectations of Toyota reliability
I consider it a downgrade
Why. Is Toyota more reliable than Lexus?
And it hasn't. Look up in the forums all of the issues with this engine. Atrocious!
Where is the v8?!?!? Toyota!!!
OMG This Man is super boring!!!! Dude its a LS 500!!! Show some enthusiasm!!!
If they put in the 5.0 it would be awesome
Why does a 70-100k sedan not have a v8 option and simpler v6 mechanicals not to mention a real gage cluster not borrowed from a motorcycle…a gold wing has a larger display for heavens sake
i have 2 older lexus cars... a 2004 GS300 and a2012 LS460.. they still look great and run great. I won't be giving them up anytime soon because these newer cars over the last several years look fugly! those front ends look like ass! Hideous! Good thing these things are built like tanks so my cars will last for a while!
I have LS 430 2003 8 cylinder
And I wanted to buy a new one because it has a six cylinder with the TwinTurbo I am not buying
The one Lexus that they will never discontinue, SUV boom or not
I hope you're right. The original LS was a jewel that made them immediately credible.
The chassis has more steel than a Mercedes-Benz S-Class or BMW 7-Series. Who cares?! The LS500 won't be an endless money pit after 5 years like the German competition.
Very well said
most people that buy/lease cars like this don’t keep them for more than 5 years. Also, the new LS has had some problems with reliability
Great reliability is the Lexus strong suit. The other luxo-barges spend too much time in the shop getting their bleeding-edge technology fixed.
“I have had multiple 20 year old women in this car”
As much as I hate the front of most Lexii their interiors are on point.
This is truly stunning - both inside and outside. Why can't I bring myself to buying a sedan!
It effin suxxxxx that it doesn't have a V8.
Huge F for fail.
And a LS F V8 twin turbo.
I have this LS 500 and i love everything but, I can’t stand the twin turbo, and the electronics leave something to be desired.
I have one and dislike the turbo lag. What electronic issues do you have? Check out my one year update video.
Picked up a 2019 w/ lux package. Wow. I think its too nice for me. But I’ll tough it out 🙃
I personally think Lexus in and out make awesome quality cars, but the only thing holding them back is the Infotainment/center console from what I've seen.
Seems like a pretty nice car, but a hundred grand? Ouch.
It's going to be a GREAT car in a couple years for 40-50k, though. lol
I have a 250k mile LS460 that rides like it just rolled off the showroom floor. Interior and exterior too. However, when its time to part with my LS460, I'll be going with a Genesis G90 over the LS500.
“I’ve had multiple women in their 20s in this, taking them to their plastic surgery appointments”
“They complained that It’s not hard enough, and in the back it’s even weaker”
Hilarious
Still the best reviews, you put me in the seat of every car. Thank you!
The design inside and out is not luxurious nor original, it is Hokie and contrived. The sinuous design theme inside comes off as hokey and uninspired.
The form became more important than the function , when it used to be the opposite.
uhh did it? they put the touch screen in an ugly location just for it to function better.
Well the old and experienced folks are retiring and or dying off. The woke and enlightened are moving on up.
I think they fumbled it with the engine choice, I'm very disappointing especially because it shares a platform with the LC, why not use the same engine, or at least a V-8 at the very least
yes! or they should’ve just given two engine options, besides the hybrid, like Genesis does with the g90
A friend of mine picked up a used low mileage 2017 LS460, and that V8 is amazing. I'm sure the TT 3.5L is good, but I wouldn't have it any other way but with the V8
Lexus V8's are literally as smooth as butter. My dad has an SC430 and you can't even tell the engine is running while idling and the way it accelerates literally feels like butter. Over 150k miles too.

@@Argedis Totally agree. I bought an '06 a year or so ago and you're right. Lexus V8's are all great, but this particular one, the 4.3L 3UZFE was legendary and is quiet, smoothe and...you guess it..like butter
Love this car. Headroom is an issue in many Lexae, the seats don’t go down far enough. The next G90 might be a more serious challenger with tech, styling, and massage seats.
I have a friend with an IS 250 and the thing is very nice, can’t imagine how much nicer this is
For sure it´s nice, but we had two IS 250, one 2010 and one 2014, both black F-sport and the 2014 with beautiful BBS alluys.
This guy #Clearly doesn’t like 🗣 Lexus & is beyond bias❗️
It’s a shame that they ruined the beautiful dashboard design that the previous generation had for an infotainment system that still lags behind the competition.
Great video! That intro is just soo good! Watching that it still have a CD player makes me feel good! The design and how quiet it is just amazing!
I adore Lexus' design language.
Why does it Need a V8 When it's Got A More Power Twin Turbo 6? I don't understand, look at Mercedes AMGs going (similar size) to 4 cylinder turbos. Sorry but what a stupid title it has TWIN TURBO'S
No AMG at a full size luxury sedan stature has no damn turbo 4 powering it. Stop it.
They fixed the infotainment by going touchscreen, finally. It's still far from best in class, but it's no longer unusable and a crippling deficiency.
"It still has a CD player."
Me: Oh that's why I said I like Lexus and it may be my next car
Please review the Volvo S80 V8. It has a Yamaha derived V8 which is also used in the Noble M600
*Rolls Eyes* every time I hear Genesis mentioned. 🤣🤣
In 2 years you can pick this up for half off!
Not quite. 25%. Super low miles then 10%
Pretty soon every Lexus is going to be just a giant grill attached to four wheels.
