Ingredients for making Walkers shortbread cookies:
250g (1 1/8 cup) unsalted butter, softened
90g (3/4 cup) powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
300g (2 cups) all-purpose flour

Flour, castor sugar, butter and salt. Never put powdered sugar in shortbread. That's just wrong. Also, piece the shortbread before baking. It helps the shortbread bake drier to make it have a good snap. Shortbread shouldn't be that soft. Cheers fae Scotland
Thank you so much for your input. This is why I love Scotland, and such nice people like you motivate me to go and learn Gaelic. This advice is so useful for baking such a classic cookie. We don’t need to complicate things, sometimes it is nice to embrace the traditional recipes because they are so good.
250g softened butter
90g powdered sugar
1tsp vanilla
300g flour
1/4tsp salt
160 c for 20mins
Then poke holes and return to the oven to bake for another 8mins at 160 c

I read some where that the shortbread simple recipe is 2-4-6.
2 measures of sugar.
4 measures of butter.
6 measures of flour.
And a pinch of salt.

I’m more worried about the sugar and the refined flour which cause heart disease down the road. Butter in its own is superfood. Full of natural vitamin A, D, E and K2.

They are undercooked. The holes made with a fork should be done before baking as this helps the heat permeate through.
Wrong. I tried to do that and the dough was too soft. I tried it as instructed in the video and they turned out perfect. 2nd Baking time was a bit off though. Had to bake it a bit longer to let them cook through.

@@anikaghbut they are not cookies they are shortbread biscuits. Cookies are soft. Shortbread biscuits should be hard.

everybody makes it different and we all sware our way is the best.
i knew somebody who rolled the dough out and used cookie cutters.
i use the 2 4 6, sprinkle with sugar before baking, leave it in the pan til its cool.
No you prick the dough before you bake it, this is done to allow the steam to escape easily so it doesnt rise.. its not just a random design aesthetic they thought would look neat

360f is 180 c not 160c... I didn't understand why my cookies weren't good hahaha
I roll the dough chill it 30 mins then bake. It breaks to easily when at room temperature. Stops the shortbread cracking. I've never used powered sugar though will need to try.

That's not a shortbread. That's an American version of shortbread. Shortbread isnt supposed to be soft at all. British biscuits are never soft!! You guys like to ruin everything. Shortbread are tradionally Scottish. They are hard and crumbly.
