For example on Seven Nation Army by the White Stripes, Jack White used a pitch shifter on his guitar to lower it by an octave to make it sound like a bass guitar. For more flamboyant effects there's pedals like the Digitech Whammy. For a cool example of what can be done with that, check out Whammy Damage by Jennifer Batten.

Recently grabbed a Boss blues driver for dirt cheap and was shocked at how damn good of an overdrive it is. Kinda blew me away. I put it up there with the DS1
@jeremiahdaniel2381 Oh for sure. I keep my setup to around 3/4 pedals that get swapped out depending on what I’m recording. I love having a good shoegaze sound and the boss blues driver along with a big muff and the ETH Cathedral reverb with the reverse setting is absolutely **chefs kiss**

I know I’m only a year late but I’m thinking about getting it how was it, every distortion pedal I run thru my clean channel on my orange crush pro 60 ends up sounding thin but as soon as I use the dirty channel instead it sounds better but I’ve been wanting a good distortion for my clean channel
@@droft5567get the Ibanez tube screamer and turn down the gain on it and then put your orange crush on the dirty setting. You could also try the MXR EQ pedal and play around until you get a fatter sound.
It amazes me the amount of guitar players that don’t use an eq pedal,they’ll have five different overdrives though and complain about the tone missing high end,or low end,or mids and go buy another overdrive lol
I’ve owned or still own all of these pedals or variations of these pedals. I gotta say this is a good selection to get you almost anywhere within metal. The mxr 5150 lead me to the purchase of my evh 5150iiis el34 100 watt head. I had the 10 band version of that eq. Which it was solid but I have since moved on to a boss eq200. But there’s nothing wrong with the mxr The boss mt2 does MUCH better in the fx loop as a preamp pedal rather than into the preamp section of your amp. And it is rock solid if used properly. The tube screamer really needs no discription whatsoever. I have the pitchfork+ and replaced my whammy dt. It does all the cool stuff. It takes an exp pedal. It takes a 3 button control pedal. It has in and out options the whammy does not. And it’s only 9v. It’s such a badass whammy alternative. I’ve never used that gate before but I can’t imagine it’s bad. I use the tc electronics sentry and it’s stellar. If you’ve read this far, you’re probably a total nerd just like me and you friggin rock!!!
I have the SmartGate, basic Boss SD-1 and Metal Core, a Sabbra Cadabra, a "Science Fair" (Screamer+RAT combo), a Bogner La Grange, and a pile of fun "boutique" OD/fuzz/distortion pedals I got because demos sounded cool. Don't have a 5150 OD or Metal Zone yet.
DON'T GET A STANDARD METAL ZONE! they have been bad from the beginning and are a meme in the metal guitarist scene FOR A REASON. the Metal Core you have is one of the best tho. i paused and haven't watched the vid yet, but that is a WAZA Metal Zone. Boss got Waza to make boutique versions of some of their pedals and they FIXED the Metal Zone, if you want to pay boutique price that is. but don't get the standard Boss pedal, the *worst* tone you get from the Core is better than the best tone you get from the Zone.
I use the devil triad going into a metal muff with too boost going into a fish n chips eq pedal then noise gate going straight into a isp power amp and it sounds amazing
My amp has the power amp in on the fx loop return. Never really tried it. Seeing the video I had to go try it. Seems to be more tweaking to do, but thanks for the idea Dagan. Good demo !
I have both ts9 and sd1, as well as an TS808, and can say both tubescreamers and sd1 have their uses, depending on the amp and guitar/pickups you're using. Sometimes I really want the scream of Zakk Wylde, in which case only the sd1 will do. Same as the distortion ds1, it's ideal for classic humbuckers and low gain amps. No favourites for me anyway. They're all great :)

I found a pedal I really like, it's from PRS. Called Mary Cries. I use it as a second compressor, right after my Skreddy P19. Love the sound of it. It is not only a compressor.

The 3 pedals that will always be on my board is a Zakk Wylde wah, BOSS SD-1 and a chorus pedal. (Chorus is always on) I prefer analog chorus but a BOSS CH-1 will work just fine. Keep it simple. MXR EVH Phase is a plus! 🤘🤘🤘
My main dirt pedal since 1994 was the DOD FX-69 Grunge. I coupled it with an FX-40B EQ into A Marshall 8080, then a Peavey Bandit Red Stripe 112. I've added a few dirt pedals since then, notably a DOD FX-50B Overdrive Plus, BOSS SD-1A Super Overdrive, and an EHX Octavio. The 50B has been my main for the last couple of years.

Some put the eq after the clean boost pedals. A lot of people use the eq in the effects loop as well. I'm getting ready to try it when my master effects pmeq puppet master pedal arrives. People swear that the eq pedals are the best into the effects loop.
hello PMTVUK, i follow a lot your videos, i m looking to buy a good combo to study metal (metallica, ecc) and i don't know which amplifier to buy, I would have a good clean sound just in case ill use some external pedal like the 5150 that i like for metal sound.
The Revv G4 has been the most phenomenal pedal Ive ever played... (Although I havent had the pleasure of trying the G3, theres no doubt in my mind its just as badass)
The G3 has a tighter low-end and has less high mids and more low mids than the G4. I like to think of the G3 having as a more wooly “American Capitalist” kind of sound, whereas the G4 has a more clear, grinding Dimebag kind of sound.
yes it kicks ass ive played it into an IR loader, it would work great in the FX loop but i found the EQ to be very extreme and had to roll the bass way down
Nothing beats a good well set up pedal board. However with today's digital plugin world you can REALLY get damn close for a LOT less $. Pedals to me are like paying $80 - $150 for salt and pepper on a dish...great but DAMN!😮

@Austin Escobedo there's still full support for it over at Digitech if you have any questions . It's got a great base for recording also that pairs well with older model computers or newer . I have mine paired with a Behringer Audio Interface and it seems to work pretry well. I can't afford an Apple or any of that DAW software so it's a low budget, high performance setup

I can recommend TC Electronic Sentry, it's a great noisegate and i like it more than Boss NS-2.

The metalzone needs a foot pedal connection so you can control the mid sweep like a Wahl pedal
