Josh Scott, owner of a extremely successful pedal company, playing a squier. You can’t get more genuine than that. Love this guy
This dude is just so real.
@@MRDOZEDOFF420 he's incredible. He looks like the most NPC American ever born, but he's great. And he plays good too.
True!
… and it sounds great, that should say a lot to all of us 😊
@@sidownes if the glorious Bad Monkey thing didn't say it loud enough already lol
The Polytune sounds incredible.
Best tone in the whole playthrough.
@@DapperHesher Thanks for making me laugh.
It’s so transparent
@@DapperHesher awesome 😆
Hahaha… almost as good as the TU-2 hey?
You always can trust a man who doesn’t only use his own companies pedals on his board
@Tong Zou pretty sure I got the last one he ever sold. It’s a great pedal!
Josh spends 90% of his time on his channel talking about other pedals. The guy JUST LOVES PEDALS. He also has the best Univibe explainer video out there.
He is one of the few who doesnt seem to only be in the business to make money. His passion for pedals really shines through.
I mean he only have a few of His pedals, and another 1/3 are ruined with His mods. Amazing. JHS is God, let pray now.
@@Stoffe958 I've noticed his pedals creeping into the JHS show a little bit more these days but it's not in your face. These are tough times and he has a company and staff to support so I can forgive a little bit more self promotion. Josh established his integrity a long time ago for me.
Josh is a true historian. His channel is a great resource on pedal history!
Josh = Pedal Yoda
I’d totally watch the pick episode they were mulling over.
is his semi history, with a lot of fake data. But who cares, right ?
Not only that, but his honesty is refreshing.
Whats his channel name?
I would definitely be one of the twelve people to watch a video about guitar picks...as long as it's hosted by Josh Scott. He has the ability to make the most mundane topics interesting, and entertaining.
It's gonna happen ! But it will be 12 thousand!
I’ll make it 13!
I’ll make it 13!
can't wait for Plectrum! The Musical
Heck yeah. Im a huge fan of fender celluloid picks. There is definitely a difference from the tortex dunlop picks.

Your a hero
Jeez Louise - that’s a lot of pedals. I have only one and it’s not really a pedal, just a switch.
Josh is a great pedal maker, great historian, and super funny. But I think people don’t talk about how good and versatile of a guitarist he is. He plays clean, dirty, and emulates all kinds of different styles. Sure he’s not one of the greatest of all time or a virtuoso shredder. But the man can play. He could be a solid guitarist in almost any cover band or most touring bands. That is wild.
Dude. He shreds. I love his playing.
Me too!!
Honestly shredding bores my ears
Although i agree with you about Josh being versatile, are there really guitar players who can't play both clean and dirty? Cause ive yet to see one
Josh Scott is the hero we deserve in these troubled times. He loves guitar pedals like we should all love each other.
Bravo! We should cherish one another like an Electric Mistress, or something like that.
Bro, Jesus is a thing.
@@CFChristian bro, let us have this. Not everything has to be about your savior.
@@Coggler101010 I change my reply.
Do you know how many times I've heard "x person is the hero we need right now in these tough times." in some whiny voice? There's about 6 different types of comments in a UA-cam video and this is one of them.
So like, pick one. And it's Sept. 2002. Times are just fine.
@@CFChristian Josh even loves the cheap pedals that take market share away from him. He had genuine love for his adversary & both sees their value & refuses to call them his enemy. Bro, Josh is a thing.
josh really is one of the funniest people on youtube. and i learned a lot - thank you both for taking the time!
His delivery is God tier.
I actually genuinely love the look of that Squire jazz. Beautiful finish.
Good lord...is that what it is?? I was thinking it was some custom deal... I love how that thing looks. Oh ok, he just talked about it.
My wife has a jillion guitars and her favorite one is her Squire Jazzmaster.
I’ve considered buying one and swapping the pickguard for a white one, I love the body color but not so much the gold lol
Agree. That has to be custom finish? What retail model has this if it's not custom?
@@bassyey Nope! it’s the Squier 40th anniversary Jazzmaster (Vintage Edition) in seafoam green
It's hard to express how much good Josh has done for the guitar world. What a legend.
I’m very happy someone else remembers how good the Third Eye Blind “Blue” guitar sound is !
Kevin Cadogan is phenomenal and the tone and playing on that album are incredible.
@@nickdargie5178 totally agree! Great chords and filagree in every song. Plus the first album too, of course 🏆
The reasons why this video is forcing me to shop for a JHSPedal:
The sense of humor of Gary Shandling.
The Pedal knowledge of a fun history professor.
The "matter of fact" common sense wisdom a big brother.
And his pedals sound amazing yet he loves everyone else's pedals too...
I want to work for this guy!!!
Gary Shandling.... wow you nailed it! Just scrolling through and you confirmed what was noodling through my brain re: his personality type/humor.
@@frod79less teeth
I love Josh. His UA-cam JHS pedals channel is pure gold!
As always it's Josh's honesty and humour about guitar and pedal culture that keeps us watching, it's so addictive.
That Jazzmaster is absolutely killing it
The ageless Don Carr and the absolute best guitar pedal peddler in the history of guitar pedals! Great episode!
Josh, you're a hero and we all love you. Never stop being you.
The amount of helpful information Josh gives in this video is astounding. Thanks for having him on!
Respect for bringing up many different tones and styles
Absolutely love Josh and his pedals. Thanks for having him on.
Could just watch Josh talk about his stuff for hours the jhs pedal channel is awesome. Defo a binge worthy place to be. Honest, funny, and someone who builds the whole industry out of love not simply his own brand to grow wealth.
This is probably the best both entertaining and informative pedalboard video I've ever seen. Nice!
Thank for another great installment in this series!! Thank you Don, and Josh!!
Josh is the working man's guitarist. Favorite guitar is a tele, playing a Squire through a solid-state amp, doesn't shamelessly shill his own products, doesn't take himself too seriously, and is even wearing a Carhartt shirt
Very inspiring! 13 years ago I went to my local guitar shop and compared my true analogue Carbon Copy with all the available digital delays back in that day and the Flashback was the king. I bought the x4 version immediately when it came out and it's been on my studio since then, I use it daily. The perfect combo of nice/simple delays, 3 presets, tap tempo and a looper with simple functions. I literally use it in almost all my projects, including many experimental electronic music ones.
Josh is awesome, such a humble dude and puts so much attention and spotlight on other brands. I got into pedals through his channel and still think his channel is the best asset for learning about pedals and the history of brands and different styles of effects. Great video here! Morning Glory = desert island pedal for me
Josh you keep inspiring me, thank you for always being yourself , amazing energy!
What a wonderful interview, I thoroughly enjoyed it! And a great video too, thanks for sharing 🤘
I like Josh's approach to building a versatile board, where he's ready for pretty well any gig or jam session. Thanks!
First time I encounter Josh... my God. Superb humour, unaffected, genial in his approach to guitar, pedals and how he paints music with pedals... singular man!
history of guitar picks sounds awesome!
I love Josh's for this when he talks about a simple stuff and brings up a parallel analogy or sidestory. Every should get a friend like Josh.
I wish I could find more John Scott jams on UA-cam, he's an awesome player, super inspirational tones and phrases together
I love this guy. His sense of humor is only surpassed by his knowledge. And for the record, picks are a huge part of your playing and sound. I too was like "just gimme something pick shaped" and I was happy. I found a titanium pick shaped like a standard Fender pick. It was $10 each. WHAT? Lemme see that thing. Now, it's the only pick I will play with. I keep one in my wallet, one in my car and one in my bag and one in my pocket. They're so good!
His son is eric frein, from PA. So he has to have a sense of humour...
@G huh? Heck are you talking about? 😆
I had no idea how excellent a guitarist Josh is. The man kicks butt.
Josh is a very solid, dependable guitar player. Everything he plays is.... right. No matter your technical ability, that's a difficult feat
You work great together. I see you both light up about the cynical but allso hilarious humor you share. The layers you can weave.
I hope to see you both back very soon.
even if Josh never changed this board set up... i would watch him break it down weekly
You just framed up the sentiments of many of us…I try to anticipate which little known pedals he decides to elevate to his audience-often growing their value by 25-75% overnight.
Just amazed and inspired. You both just make me happy about - well, just everything!!!!
So much fun! I have several of those on my board too! Pitchfork, the TC flashback, and I could not live without my polytune. My "more better" pedal that is always on, is a Marshall VibraTrem. All knobs straight up and it is so subtle but just a "better button". I tend to leave my Fender 4-10 bassman pedal most of the time too. The pitchfork is amazing too I agree.
Josh has one of my favorite channels. He's one of the few people I don't 2 x's the speed because the information he gives is worth my time to not speed right through.
This was a lot of fun. I typically can't make it through. 5 min of these types of interviews and sit downs.
I'll be keeping an eye out for more now!
So nice to hype up myself for this exact JM model coming in a few weeks by watching Josh playing it!
Josh owns almost every pedal ever to exist, so you know his personal board has some of the sweetest pieces of gear on the market.
I don't put my best stuff on a boad for playing out. I would be devastated if anything got stolen. Some things are irreplaceable.
True, but Josh also loves a ton of pedals that are cheap lol
@@MoncoFielddidn't he say once that one of his favorite fuzzes was a Behringer Super Fuzz that was, like, $30?
@hydrahunter4629 probably lol. Theres too many cheap pedals that he likes and has recommended
Gotta love Josh, and chorus! Just bought a 3 Series Chorus, glad to hear it's back in.
Josh is a legend. I love his show his opinion his enthusiasm and most of all he is a giver of knowledge 1st and a business man second. Thanks josh.
Michael Fuller of Fulltone is legend and genius
Love the walk-through, super entertaining.
I think if anyone who shows you their "tone" and it isn't harsh, they haven't played with a live band before. If your tone is "full" and "huge", you probably play in front of your amp in a room alone a lot. It DOES sound great in your room, but everyone eventually has that low end excised for playing with a band, either through pedals or the amp or the mixing board.
When Josh is around 18:00 into the video and playing his base tone, stage 1, stage 2 and walking through it, it's HARSH and bright by itself. And I know it would sound awesome in a mix.
Great fuzz. Looking forward to a possible future release of production version.
Great video, thanks for sharing your pedal wisdom!
So nice to hear that I'm not crazy that I prefer a clean amp and use pedals for gain.
Yeah me too, I never understood the hype about amp distortion. It feels no different to me than pedal distortion, except for the volume levels needed
Don’t matter where the gain comes from so long as it gives you the sound you’re looking for. I’m a big fan of an Orange Rockerverb sound so I went and bought it. I’m also a big fan of the Boss HM2 sound so I went and bought it.
Don Carr is chill as hell. He gives me vibes of someone’s youngest aunt who lets you try beer as long as you don’t tell your mom.
LOL true!
Love Josh. I just put the AT+ on my board and it’s perfect. It also happens to be the Sweetwater exclusive black one. Hell yeah killer video.
Josh makes things so enjoyable!
Thank you for what you fellows do. Keep music creation fresh.
Could watch Don and Josh talk guitars, amps, pedals...all day long. Great video!
JHS played a huge role in my pedal knowledge and my current collection, along with That Pedal Show. I love that he loves Radiohead, Jazzmasters, and clean tone.
Great stuff love the breakdown very detail oriented.
Excellent interview, good stuff!
It's like a NASA rocket splitting in the sky.
What a journey. 😍
Insane stacking methodology.
JHS great partnership with sweat water.
Josh is a historian with his own pedal company.
Can't wait for another two years with a different pedalboard which still a same thing. I never noticed it until you stated it. Actually it's in all of us.
Really love your music philosophy.
Thank you Professor Josh Scott. 🙏🏽
The EDQ Dispatch Master is my all time favorite pedal
Hooray for the Dawes shout out! Incredible band, great sounds, great lyrics great songs.
genuinely the most informative video ive ever seen
8:16 I got that gravity pick with a JHS looper I bought. Best pick ever!!! I can't put it down.
Josh is one of the most entertaining guys on UA-cam.
That warbletron sounded awesome
ive used an mk2 tonebender for 18 years and its on 100% of the time when i play live. it works for everything
Idea for a new pedal Josh:. Reverse Delay. It would sound great at the end of songs. Also, kudos to Don Carr for being so well versed in various musical styles and for conducting this interview! Also, I want to see Josh in a cowboy hat and maybe do a video with best pedals for Westerns.
Both your guys mastery of UA-cam guitarista guidance have been my tonal beacon. Thanks for an awesome get together ✌️ 🔥
Hey Josh, glad you name checked Starflyer 59. The tone on Voyager off of Americana is the tone that made me want to try guitar.
I would definitely watch any video on picks. I think the things that impact tone most are the things that touch the air - picks/strings and speakers.
If the Morning Glory and a modded Klon circuit is his go to why the heck hasn’t he made a dual drive with both in one box. He’s got the double barrel (tube screamer/Morning Glory) and the Sweat Tea (jcm800/tube screamer) but no Morning Glory and Klon combo.
Because he's true to his word. Supposedly told the maker of the the Klon that he wouldn't make them anymore
The amazingness of that The Bends tone just made me rethink my entire board... Cheers Josh! 🍻 😳
I'm 50, just started playing Bass! Love it!
Love the Starflyer 59 shoutout! A band everyone ought to check out
This guy is so funny. Definitely my kind of humor. I like his interviews.
It's cool to hear him talk about the Boss Gigadelay. I love the interface of that one, with the big Boss-style footswitches for the tap tempo, and it sounds good. I use basically one setting, and adjust tempo. Electric, acoustic, and even mandolin. One of my all-time favorites.
YES! A history of guitar picks please!
I have a whammy 4 and yes while it is huge, i love using it in chords more without the glitchyness, especially in ambient settings. If you get a delay infinite repeat going before it, you can play different notes using it. Ive crafted whole parts on my knees playing the whammy with one hand and messing with delay settings in the other. Its also really fun to run it in the effects loops of other pedals.
Beautiful PRS always been a die hard PRS Player!! Happy New Years!!
It's interesting how similar Josh's approach to gain stages is similar to my own. Turns out a little bit and being able to amp it up or down easily is the most useful thing in a live situation
I use Gravity picks after getting in with a JHS pedal… love them!
13:15 "nobody hears it anyway." No truer words have been spoken.
Got that red pick in the jhs reverb pedal box and I started to like it but ima wear it as a medallion 😊
Really awesome Interview and Don Carr was excellent, the trick is not to talk to much when you interview somebody, is to allow them to flow in the interview... he did a great job....and Josh is such a cool guy and again so funny!
Don Carr is a treasure. Looks like they're both good friends
First time I heard someone talk to pick in pedalboard review. So nice❤️
Such a gorgeous guitar.
It’s like you have to have almost everything to realize that you need almost nothing.
Sometimes it takes the better half of a lifetime to learn this.
Big fan of the basics approach to pedalboards here. There are millions of tones you can get out of only a few standard (not rare, not expensive, not eccentric) pedals.
i just love josh hes such a nice and funny dude
He is so honest and he knows what he wants, that really catched me UP squire thoughts are inspiring for everyone thank you for all my feelings tonight ı felt, ❤
It's really interesting what Josh said about the simplicity of the board. As much simple pedals as possible, no secondary functions you should memorize, no menu diving. It enhances creativity.
It's why, despite the cost, I prefer a pedalboard over a multifx. Just having all the knobs and switches visible at a glance is key to experimentation. I admit: I have some pedals with secondary functions and where some knobs and switches are labeled 'X', 'A' or '2' (Strymon, Walrus). But there it comes down to just sticking with the same pedals and learning them inside and out. There's no point in having 50 effects pedals if you barely use them.
Thanks guys, lovely!
yes yes a history of picks would be awesome !
Great video! Enjoyed!
Loved the polytune demo
Josh is amazing! What a great person. He is always so generous in sharing his knowledge... then it was actually funny to hear him saying about being in the age of wisdom 😂 when this richness of board-wisdom just happened 🤣 We gotta love Josh (very much!) 🫂
That was a lotta fun :)
Just bought a morning glory that should arrive tomorrow. Itll be my first jhs pedal and my first blues breaker based pedal. Im super stoked to try it out!
