Some people have rightfully pointed out the editing in recent years, which I cannot tell for certain if it is just eq or they added more bass drum hits, but it seems like they added some, which is weird since he plays lux aeterna double bass normally(seen from fan cams). So it is fair to acknowledge this and edit the comment. Still, this doesn't change the point about saddening trash talk, all throughout the 80s you could see great drumming, examples fight fire 85 and such. You can also check Seattle, Grammy, Mountain View and many more older performances of 'One' to see where he undoubtedly was, 80s were the metallica decade performance wise. He is what he is, by far not the most talented performer but a clear standout creatively and a drumming legend.
Just a passive fan of how far the drumming game is now with Metallica , Slipknot, etc. I love how fast and easy you make this look! I know dang well the double bass now with both feet takes time patience and talent and your like do this , now this. I mean I really wonder could drummers from the 80s even learn this?! I’m grateful!
I'm a gigging guitarist but have a drum kit cause i love drums! I'm a little under intermediate...i couldn't play a show on drums..some songs maybe. Thanks for this, i never saw it broken down like that before, great way to learn. Thank you so much!
I got this rubber roll out drum machine. It has two pedals like a sewing machine for bass and hihat. That thing isn't too loud. Maybe you could get one ?
@@joshuasopko3071 I appreciate 5th he suggestion, but I know I'd get frustrated and would want a full kit. I've been looking at some electronic ones. Just trying to see if I could make it work.
Something that really helped me when I first got started was play some single pedal songs with just your left foot. It's super simple and you are probably already doing that, but just in case.
@@hockey66191 I definitely have started that, but I need to push myself with it with both patterns and tempos. It's a great exercise though and I appreciate the suggestion!
It seems so easy, but I'm having a hell of a time with it at tempo. Are you guys using only ankles, only legs, or a little of both? If I use only ankles I have no control. If I use only legs, I have control, but I don't have the speed. Any suggestions? Thanks
@@timparker9341 I'm using a little of both, mostly because my ankle technique is in its infancy, but the legs and the beginning and end help with power and emphasis, ankles in the middle help with speed and endurance
This will sound daft but i actually find level 3 more difficult to play than level 4... I've been working in my double bass for a while now and the biggest challenge i find is doing hand/feet combinations. So thanks, guys, this has given me a new little exercise to work on
Thanks Aaron... i think i'm a solid 4, haven't really attempted it with any dedication yet, always thought ..yeah one day. This is gonna make it alot easier...thanks again,...REALLY DIGGIN' THE 🥁TABS!!!!!
Gostei muito! 'One' é uma música icônica, e a maneira como Lars Ulrich a toca é lendária. I really enjoyed it! 'One' is an iconic song, and the way Lars Ulrich plays it is legendary. 🥁🤘
heyyy the dead high hat just like lars uses ! most people don't get how he gets his high hats to sound like they do when really they are just laying on top of each other unless he engages the clutch mechanism with his foot to open!
I was 15 when this can out. An Metallica was other worldly to me. I worshipped Metallica. What I do know as a drummer is, if ur reduced to counting a beat, u can’t hear it. This isn’t a solution for people who need to count. You fell it or you don’t. All that said, any drum instruction is fantastic
Not quite drum kit, but any possibility of getting Jack Ashford, the auxiliary percussionist from the old Motown records? He's the last Funk Brother alive.
Still not quite sure but always had an impression that Lars doesn't play eactly 6 kicks on record but only play 5 ones! So they are NOT a pair of triplets but a strange 5-kick-roll pattern... Just because of his skills back on those days...
I remember when I saw Metallica back in 2017, when they got to the double kick part in One, Lars played two straight eighth notes instead of six 16th note triplets. He played between level 1 and 2! 😂
Well for playing a proper drum kit I say I would be at level 5 right now but I haven't played a proper drum kit in ages. Only finger drumming on a keyboard.
" Play the Drum and " Play drum are the idiomatically correct ways to say it in English , even if you at the time of saying it happen to only be playing one drum .
“Lars is crap” is what drummers say when they want to sound impressive. Might work on the public, but to seasoned drummers it shows your lack of self awareness on the drums. We can all learn something from Lars….Lars knows exactly what the average listening public needs from a drummer and it has helped make Metallica one of the most successful bands ever. Most of todays metal drummers over play which is impressive for other drummers, but you’ll never be as big as Metallica if your band only appeals to other musicians.

ua-cam.com/users/shortszk_x7BZGYzk?si=h3TQH4CaBIc3mNuP what’re you thoughts on this?
It’s well known that they edit their live videos. Go watch microphones recordings of Donnington and he doesn’t play it correctly
Even if that was the case, it’s still our obligation to clown on Lars. What about that don’t people see?
I was at that Festival and he did not play it perfectly. It’s edited (still love lars)
This video was edited (see fan footage from that concert)

Almost agree. But it is really Just down to Patience and consistency. I can confirm that you don't need talent 😂

Killed it Aaron!
Aaron! Missed seeing you from Drumeo ever since you made the Travis videos. Welcome back!
Im gonna practice 2 and 3 tonight. Love the idea of getting the floor tom in as a poor drummers double bass, so thanks for that too!
More Aaron, more! Love your videos. Also everyone needs to stop with the Lars hate
Love this, I grew up on Metallica and am just getting into drums now and so excited to see this broken down!
Hi Aaron, great subdivision of levels! Each one from 1 to 4 maintains the spirit, groove and the idea of the song, well-done!
Drumeo is too dope. I wish I had the time, space and money to learn to play the drums.

I really watch this video at the right moment: I thought a bit earlier about this great double bass part. Nice job!
Thanks vaas
Nice, simple but understandeble video. Thanks for that!
This song is the reason i bought a double pedal. Im having trouble grtting it up to speed (left foot control) but am enjoying rhe process!

I love the sound the floor basses make thats why i love hardcore and deathcore i want to feel it in my soul
As always, Strait to the point , great lesson, Aaron is the man.

Level 3 fits surprising in...🤯
Level 3 is the hardest :). Thanks for the video.
Vaas has chilled out quite a lot since Far Cry 3.

Level zero. Lol I don't even have a kit of any kind. But I love this channel and hope to one day begin to learn.
Snare sounds so fucking crisp! I love it
Please learn this Lars! :D
oh man, ya got me with that one
Yessir. Beautiful vid
Why was this 5 levels thing not available when I started??? Breaking a song down like this helps soooooo much.
Level six:
El Estepario Siberiano 😂
0:51 this unintentionally ends up being similar to an early part of Metropolis Part 1 by Dream Theater (right before the vocals come in)
Right! One of my favorite songs!

Someone should show Lars this
😂😂😂
Amazing
Aaron edgar 🎉🎉
Very Nice!🎶👏🎶👏
Level 2 - Lars Ulrich in 2023
Gonna be honest, level 3 sounded cool. Thats a groove in of itself
Any reason you bury the left beater?
Wow I loved this guy in Far Cry 3
Well for playing a proper drum kit I say I would be at level 5 right now but I haven't played a proper drum kit in ages. Only finger drumming on a keyboard.
You could have added a level 6 : "Beyond Lars" where you try to make it your own
What Pearl Drumkit is that?
looks like a CZX Studio Birch
Yes metallica let's goooooo!!!!!!
the hardest part of this song is remembering all the different intro and verse fills lol
The Lars Ulrich one shouldn't be on the right timing...
You need to interview Austin Carango the drummer from a band called mom jeans he is one of the best of all time super creative and dynamic
What kind of hihats are those? I see your playing Sabian. What series and how big?

WICKED!!! ❤🎉
Playing One by Metallica: 😎
Playing One by Tesseract: 😵💫
Iconic
I think I seen HHX, I'm pretty sure, and it sounds it!?
AJFA is the best metal album of all time.
Level 4
" Play the Drum and " Play drum are the idiomatically correct ways to say it in English , even if you at the time of saying it happen to only be playing one drum .
im at level: gonna buy a drumset tomorrow.
Level -16
Ooopppps I kinda threw myself in at level 5.... Go hard or go home people
So Lars is level 1 and this guy shows us how it can be better?
Lars plays One on student level at live shows
"Lars, turn on the clicker, please."
🤘
level -1
it pisses me off that after all these years i still cant play that damn double bass part!
The level 5 (Lars) is basically level 1 for most professional drummers (or anyone who’s ever played double bass). Sorry. Had to.
❤❤
Lars should see this.
early birds get the first worm
Second mouse gets the cheese
it’s funny cause there are another 5 levels above this
Lars plays this live at level 2 tho 😂
😂😂😂
I'm level 0: I never touched a drum kit!
Pretty sure Lars plays this live at level 2 these days... 😂
All levels are one?
I wouldn’t name level 5 Lars Ulrich. Maybe level 4…maybe
Maybe Lars will tune in so he can get it right
Level one should Lars
👍🤟✌️
The Lars ulrich should’ve been level 2 at most lol😂
Lars has vague memories of faking this. And Dyers Eve
level 1 should be lars ulrich
Get Tommy Lee in the videos!!
I'm a pre-beginner level drummer.
🤣
I always assumed it was 8 kicks
Level 1: What Lars plays live.

You'll definitely never catch lars over playing 😅
There's one big issue with this video. If you want to play it properly, you have to constantly fluctuate your tempo like Lars does 🤣

Here for the Lar's comments.
Ur using two kick drums
