I miss John Ritter. This film had one of the best casts ever assembled. Everyone was perfect in their roles.
Me2
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nobody could've nailed this role like Dwight did.
You're right. I don't know that any character inspired such a visceral reaction in me as his portrayal of Doyle did in this movie. HATED that guy.
He's an exceptional actor! I don't think that I've seen him enough in movies
One of the best, if not the best, acting performances I've ever seen. Love it!
Hey if you guys like Dwight Yoakam check out the movie called "Roswell the movie." It was made around 93 or 94. It has a pretty good cast in it as well. In the movie He plays as the rancher Max Brazzel, or however it's spelled. The CIA abducts him at one point in the movie. It is funny as hell.
My god Dwight should have won an Oscar for this role!
Yea he reminded me so much of my dad ! Omg my dad was just like that lol
Wow, my condolences!
I don't think they like musicians who are talented actors
I agree.
Billy Bob deserves one more
"Midgets and antique furniture," is one of my favorite movie lines of all time...
I hate Doyle, but I too hate American Colonial antique furniture
I've never seen a midget in real life, but I've been so intrigued after seeing this!!!
😂👍
I laughed so hard when I saw Carl standing there, no telling how long he was out there waiting.
“Have you knocked on the door yet?”
“No sir I ain’t.”
That scene actually makes me sad , Poor thing doesn't know what to do next😣
It's a movie..... he stood there right before someone yelled "action" LOL. Just kidding.... I thought the same thing.
Linkavitch Chomofski “Quite a spell...I reckon.”
that part makes me cry.
Dwight Yokum’s character was so believable it was chilling.
Narcarcisst evil..
“How long have you been standing there?”
“Mmmmm. Quite a spell I reckon.”
Dwight Yoakam shocked the hell out of me as an actor! Unbelievable!
Cathy Leone same he’s a good actor
Yes Dwight Yoakam is a really good actor
Watch him in “Panic Room.”
I liked Randy Travis's acting as well, before he had his stroke.
@@Backyardmech1 Saw it
I have a new way to answer when someone asks me how I am.
“Oh tolerable I reckon.”
It's an old southern expression that you don't hear much anymore except from the old (and I mean really old!) folks out in the country. Every now and then you might hear someone a bit younger answer "tolerable," but leave off the "I reckon" part.
@@DrJohn493 I WAS SAYING THAT BACK WHEN I WAS 25!
Love how Frank continuously breaks character and chuckles and smiles at Doyle's lines lol
I don’t think it was breaking character, a normal kid would have laughed too just as the audience did even though we know he’s a monster.
Doyle's a jerk, but jerks can be funny
I like how Carl's boss gets him a box lunch. I worked for a landscaper who always bought us all lunch, and he never skimped. Worked my ass off for that guy.
Cool. Unfortunately none of my bosses brought me lunch. They worked my ass off though. They were stingy penny pitchers. I was the perfect worker always showed up on time & still nothing. Not even a thank you. Got injured awhile back. Glad I don't work for those assh**** anymore.
@@Triggerzombie677 you should of gave him some of that hot a$$. I'm sure he would've bought you food after
Bill Cox is just about my favorite character in the whole movie (iirc, I've just watched a couple old clips on here I haven't seen the rest of the movie in like 10-15 years)
Does good by Carl
I worked for a landscaper. My first days on the job I was begging change from other workers so I could get a taco from the lunch truck. Those were the best street tacos I ever had.
This is the only movie I can think of where the southern accent was nailed perfectly by everyone. Especially Linda and Frank. Reminds me of my family. Helps to cast folks from the south to play these roles. A faked southern accent is hard to pull off.
Couldn’t agree more. I’m from South Carolina and Hollywood usually screws up Southern accents.
Uh, everyone is southern. Thornton (Carl) was born in Arkansas. Yoakam (Dwight) is from Kentucky. Black (Frank) is from Alabama. Canerday (Linda) is from Arkansas. Ritter's (from Cali) character is "from St. Louis" and you can see he doesn't feature much of an accent.
Not much of a mystery now, huh?
@@Dave-lr2wo that’s why I said it helps to cast folks from the south. I was saying its the only movie I can think of that isn’t a forced southern accent. Don’t be a smart ass. I will fuck you up
The guy who plays frank actually does have an accent in real life
I love the southern accent. 😍
Dwight Yoakam nailed this role!
good acting
My drinking buddies used to call me Doyle when I got drunk. Apparently I acted just like him. I’m glad I quit drinking.
Chump Johnson
“Get the fuck out! That goes for cocksuckers and mental retards!!”
Good for you getting off the drinks
intergalactic24 You wouldn't do shit and you know it you pole smoking mo mo!
It’s a good that you didn’t get too mad to turn back!
@Blood Beryl I do not doubt some of it was based in truth. All the best comedy is...
Dwight is a good actor.! He really cracks me up in this role.!
Maybe he's not acting. 😂
Dwight is incredible in this movie.
Doyle’s a people person, he’s a hoot to hang out with! 🤣
Speaking of sweet, Where's your girlfriend? Dwight Yoakum was so damn good in this movie!
One of the BEST movies ever.
Definitely in my top 5
Even young Lucas Black smiled during Dwight's "I can't even drink a glass of water around a midget".
They did a great job of capturing the abusive character of Doyle. Most abusers are funny at least some of the time, which just keeps their victims hanging on to the relationship when they should be leaving.
I caught that as well. How could anyone keep a straight face during that dialogue! I know it's not "PC" but I believe we all knew a Doyle growing up.
AssinnippiJack
PC? This was the 90’s. We laughed at our friends and called them retards and faggots. No big deal.
@@AssinnippiJack everyone's got an Uncle Doyle
@@AssinnippiJack PC is BS
Dwight Yoakem is brilliant in this film
Dwight Yoakum was terrific in this movie, the whole cast was great..
I like that she was laughing about Doyle's rant
What's amazing about Doyle is how there's a handful of moments where he acts normal, which then gives way to his sudden outbursts.
Most abusers are charming and funny and manipulative..they hook you with the charm and when they are abusive you wonder when the "real" charming person you fell in love with went.
@@delilasloan8914 Just like my old man
Probably a good dude but had his demons
My ex-husband was this way. Drinking especially brought it on.
@@delilasloan8914
That sounds like my step father. He fucked me and my little brother up for life.
Billy Bob Thornton himself has a phobia about antique furniture. lol

whats to be afraid of,over paying for old wood? should have had a phobia about that ugly weirdo bitch he married
How do I get as cool as you?
You must give Billy Bob credit for this role.
I love when Vaughn finally knocks on the door 😂😅🤣
That little frustrated lean back...😂
That feminine way that knocks on the door makes me laugh every time...John Ritter was such an underrated actor and played his part in the movie to perfection.
Then he got to push Karl through it.
He's sweet, she's sweet, everybody sweet
Great acting....amazing movie
I just got a t-shirt with Doyle sitting in his chair that says, I'm hurtin Linda
I'm sure nobody will get where it's from..
That womans accent, holy shit its heavy.. Im from the South but dayummm 😆
When I was about Frank's age, I knew of a guy very similar to Doyle. We barely got along. Of course, he drank and screamed and hollered if he didn't get his way. He had his good moments, but they weren't very often. I had forgotten about him until I saw this film. It's a crime that Dwight didn't get an oscar for this role!!!
Funny hearing that line about antiques and midgets. Don't know if Billy Bob has a phobia about midgets, but I remember him saying in an interview that he has a phobia about antiques.
Dwight yoakam great scene
I need to watch this movie again. I know this was one of many movies at the time that had the "Evil stepfather" theme.
I agree with others. Dwight was awesome in this movie!
Not a phone in sight. Just people living in the moment.
This video ain't got no gase in it.
hahahahaha
After years my computer finally works, thank you mister. May god bell you
Dwight: so underrated.
John Ritter had an unmatched comedic sense. He was so funny. This scene alone has more comedy in it and it just goes unnoticed. !👍👍😆
Imagine if this movie were put out today lol THE OUTRAGE!!!!
Yes, no way it would have been acceptable. I loved it.
So much for living in a “free” country
@@CobraCraig88 your looking at it the wrong way. People (not including myself) "feel" despite overwhelming proof, evidence, and or facts. It's always the same type of person. Where we go wrong as a society is trying to accommodate their bs just because they act like your screaming child in a nice restaurant. Some may be silenced. I will not.
I think it would be acceptable. He's a villain, he's supposed to be ignorant and mean to others. He also gets killed at the end so I don't think anyone sane would care.
@@teamhex
The gays would care.
Greatest movie ever
I'm sure billybobs neck and back was hurting after every scene with that f***** up posture
Antique furniture is creepy cause you know they keep secrets.LOL. Midgets do make me a bit nervous as Karl would say.
The one time in the movie where Doyle wasn't being a douchebag, just funny. If he was like that all the time, him Frank and Linda might have had a decent relationship.
Thats how all drunk douchebags are, they are cool sober, thats how those women go for those types. If they were douchey 100% of the time, theyd be single
That’s how a lot of alcoholics are, they are tolerable or even pleasant to be around but they start getting drunk and the demons come out. As hateful as he could be he was still tolerant to let Linda have a gay friend, invite Karl a total stranger and mentally challenged man into the home and even his band mates were a bit quirky with one being handicapped. If he could have stayed off the booze he’d probably been fine to live with.
Actually Dwight was a better parent than the mom. At least he questioned WTH carl was in a mental hospital for . And his guess was right, hacked up his family.
Well she did let Doyle move in as well
In real life it's actually a self proclaimed fact from Billy Bob Thornton that he is creeped out by antique furniture 😱😲
Probably just not saying about the midgets lol
@@coreyhall1150 Then how did he do BAD SANTA with Tony Cox?
@@Dane_Youssef lots of Valium????
Dwight Yoakum was absolutely amazing in this movie. I grew up in the south and his character in the movie disturbingly accurate.
Doyle was hilarious in this movie.
How are you Karl? Oh, tolerable I reckon.
One of the Greatest movies
You cut it at the part where Doyle talks about the Vaughn/Alfred incident in front of the coffin, lololol
“You were going at it with poor old Miss Ovletree, her dead as a door nail laying helpless there.”
Dwight Yoakam used to date a woman who lived upstairs from us in Highland Park. I used to say to my girlfriend “it’s a little disturbing to come home and see Doyle knocking on your neighbors door. One Halloween there was a knock on our door. It was Doyle, um, I mean Dwight. He gave us a big bag of candy. He said he just wanted to make sure we had enough for the Trick or Treaters. Doyle’s a good guy.
This is the prequel for Bad Santa
that mom was a nice woman...but Doyle would have killed her if she tried to leave...
No, she knew Doyle was mean and abusive yet she put up with it because she wanted the attention. Women like her are enablers
Lisping “ok well I’ll come by mr cock’s office and we’ll go to lunch.”
leo alex and she left her son with Doyle. Not good.
@Joe Batters No, Doyle was a Democrat, he had their whiny "do as I say or I'll hurt you" mindset they all have. Plus he was an addict like most liberals.
@Joe Batters Republicans don't abuse their power, they respect the constitution, unlike Shrillary and Obummer.
Best movie I've never seen! Can't find it anywhere...
I love this movie
I didn't recognize John Ritter or Dwight for about five minutes while watching this for the first time.
'Cause John hardly sported a buzzcut or glasses. Besides when I was a kid, I only knew him as the voice of Clifford the Big Red Dog.
Dwight was funny as shit in this scene lol. Cant drink a glass of water around a midget? lol I will be saying that the rest of the day.
Dwight is funny, just watch some of his interviews
They couldn't have cast a better person to play Doyle! I agree on the Oscar comment!
The first Billy Bob Thornton movie ever saw when I was younger was The Troma pictures film event “Chopper Chicks in Zombie Town”
If you were wondering what it is about, the title also is a plot synopsis
"it's a little loud."
They way they talk reminds me of my great grandparents 40 years ago
Dwight Yoakam was amazing in this movie! Hilarious
Sounds like my grandparents house when a convict got loose once
It’s a damn shame you cannot find this movie anywhere even streaming
Oh I Done Et Just A Little Bit Ago!
Doyle can’t drink a glass of water around a midget without getting sick?!?
That is so bizarre yet hilarious

Actually that's an inside joke. It's really Billy Bob himself that is afraid of antique furniture. He also has a fear of right angles and the color red and that's why Carl doesn't eat ketchup but mustard instead.
So, how does he feel about reproduction antique furniture?
Because the worst of Billy Bob Thornton's MK Ultra programming probably involved, or at least had antique furniture present while being abused.
"Can I take you to lunch?"
"I done et jus a little bit ago."

I read Billy Bob walked around with glass in his shoes for this
I like the way you talk

So hard to see Billy bob in carl
You're all hung up on people being sweet! aren't you? He's sweet, everybody's sweet, speaking of sweet, where's your girlfriend? I thought he was coming over here for something! Funny as crap!
Carl practicing, Occam's razor.
“I just et just a little bit ago.” 😂
In real life, Billy Bob Thorton is the one that has issues with antique furniture and midgets.
I don't have a phobia but I get the hate for old wooden stuff
He's afraid of midgets?
LOL man doyle didnt deserve to die!! hahah he had my dying
Is there a specific place for this accent? You just gotta love it! 😁
Its definitely identical to what I e heard in Southeastern Kentucky
I reckon I love this picture show mmmhm
Foreshadowing
Sad this movie can't be watched any where can't find it
I grew up around a person like Doyle for many years and this film is the most accurate depiction of a dysfunctional household to which the man of the house has the sickness of violent alcoholism, I gotta say I didn’t feel sorry for Doyle when he gets murdered at the end of the film.
I done et just a liitle bit ago.
Is Slingblade a Drama or Comedy? Yes.
How long have you been standing here? Quite a spell I Reckon.
I wish Dwight would have played Woodys role in
' No country for old men"
Thata wouldve been a great role for Dwight! Say, have you ever read about Woody's Dad, Charles?
NOW she wants to know?
Was Dwight nominated for anything? Did Hollywood ignore him? He mastered this role, he made you hate his character.
